    What about entering Spain from the UK and being able to prove you have enough funds to support yourself while you're there? UK tourists in Spain have to follow £97/day rule or could be barred from entering. Never heard this enforced either. Pity these principles aren't applied to the UKs channel surfers.

    The trouble with the British (and I am British) is arrogance we still seem to think we're better than anyone else and everything fails without us. Not true. We're the first to complain if someone can't speak our language and the last to learn another language. I'm trying to learn Spanish... Slowly lol. Drinking culture in England is who can drink the most and stay out the longest, with no regard to others. Then blame everyone who doesn't like their behaviour.

    Don’t lump all British together. I think you are promoting an outdated idea of the people of the UK. In fact a lot of British people (mostly the intelligentsia”) “hate” their country more than anyone. So much unpleasantness in the world. A bunch of football hooligans is not a typical sample of Spanish population, absolutely not. Spaniards are some of the most respectful and tolerant people in the world; in Europe they really stand out. Football hooligans around the world invariably attack rival clubs' players who look different. Blaming or tagging decent people for what school drop-outs and hooligans do while drunk and/or drugged is a huge injustice, especially in the case of Spaniards.

    Great video Stuart! Congrats. Why some British or English press constantly picks on Spain, I have no clue, but well, Brits keep coming. In any country there are extremes: uncouth and educated. For example, last summer I met a middle-aged Briton in Sos del Rey Católico, a beautifully preserved medieval city, faaaar away from the mass touristic routes. He was knowledgeable about Spain's history and had a good conversation. Surely, a foreign pioneer in the magic routes of the vast Spanish interior. By the way, my favourites, and I still have many remaining spots in my To-do list to be crossed out. Literally, I have that list and I update it constantly!

    Hi Stu, as I understand the word "Guiri" comes from the question "where is?" since English-speaking tourists asked that question all the time. Therefore, since that question "Where is", it is not known how to pronounce it well in Spanish and the tourists were making that sound all the time, they were left with the word "Guiri" to identify them. The same thing happens with the word whiskey, in Spanish they are pronounced "güisqui".

    I just did an invitation letter for a friend that will be visiting from Mexico. I think needing the letter might depend on which country you are coming from. Since she will be staying with me for three months, I thought it important. I went to the national police with a form filled out on the internet, and a copy of her passport. I was given a receipt to take to the bank to make a payment, it was expensive I believe around 80 euros. I went back the next day to give them the receipt. It was ready about a week later and they called me to come and pick it up. You have to send the original to the person and the courier service to Mexico was quite expensive. I asked the person at the police how often people get asked for the document and he said it could be quite random.

    Excellent - The British media (that is a certain segment of it ) is continually picking away at Spain. The document in question has been talked about for a few years now. Friends of mine have been down to the local Police Station in Arroyo De la Miel, Benalmadena - both the Local ,and National stations and made enquires about the document. The Police are also in the dark. It is probably something that may happen, so keep yourself informed.

    The EU wants to mimick the US procedures. When you fly there, the ground personnel of the airline requires you to provide the address of your stay, because it is a US Homeland requirement. Plenty of Med tourist resorts want drunken British tourists. Drunken tourists from any country. From Portugal to Cyprus there are resort areas specifically designed to cater for them. That's how 18-30 holidays got their reputation. It's how the clubs and bars make their money. And they keep flight prices down. Not sure Spain deserves any respect from tourists. The Spanish authorities do nothing about pickpocketing and establishments often try to rip off customers. There's no doubt without mass tourism many parts of southern Spain would join the empty hinterlands in terms of poverty. The Catalans and Basques also complain about their tax money being siphoned off to support southern Spain.

  • @diegodejuan4825

    @diegodejuan4825

    Ай бұрын

    The Basques don't give a cent to anyone else in Spain, let me explain to you why: they have a especial privileged tax system (its origins lay somewhere in the middle ages), where they collect their own money for themselves. Actually, the pay something called "cupo vasco" to the central government to cover for general state services (those that are the same nation-wide), buuuuut... as "el cupo" is used always as a bargaining chip to buy the Basque government's political support to the central government (almost always needed to govern Spain), it is estimated they pay a third of what those state services are worth. Therefore, the funny fact is that rest of Spain is paying much of the Basques expenses for FREE!! Irony: the poorer areas of Spain paying the rich Basques. In the end, is Madrid who transfers much more money to the "South" (and the North, West and East too). Oh, and now Sánchez wants also thet the rest of us pay much of the Catalan debt so he can stay in power (15 billion euros). Brilliant! (as said in UK)
