Nothing like the view of the sea. :) Great road to travel, and absolutely stunning scenery. Another superb video of your adventures, and travels. Myself, I would have probably stopped at almost every town, village, hamlet and settlement next to the sea, just to take pictures. lol Thank you for taking the time to tape your adventures through Spain, and thank you for taking the time to upload, edit and so on, so we chair/couch potatoes can enjoy what you actually got to see in person. 😉🤗📸💕🤭🐸

by far it seems like the "sunniest" place in Europe compared to almost everywhere else. I notice the majority of any road videos I see from Spain seem to not have a cloud in the sky. Very different from further north in the UK, where it's hard to find a day that isn't overcast :-)

I always consider Spain to be the California of Europe. (Or perhaps more accurately, California is the Spain of America).

Spain is also much more diverse than just sun & beaches. Both in landscapes and culture. The north coast is totally different from the rest of the country. The southeast has deserts while the southwest has savanna. High mountain ranges are scattered across the country, interrupted by major plains. There's something for everyone. The interior is much less visited by foreigners though (except for Madrid).

@@TransCanadaPhil It wasn't so dry in Sept 2019 when I was driving in Bilbao on holiday from the UK. The A8 is a fantastically scenic motorway. Mountains on one side. Glimpses of the sea on the other. Closest comparable road in the UK would be the A55 coastal route in North Wales.

Beautiful as ever. We are very lucky in this continent for all the European roads system who allows us to enjoy a fjord in Norway a beach in Benidorm and a forest in Germany. Thank you very much to show us how easy is. Muchas gracias y cuidado en la carretera por ahí fuera.

Si pero de Zaragoza a Barcelona tienes la autopista y desde Fraga a Barcelona tienes autovía y más la autovía.

With Felipe González as president of the Government (1982-1996), the autovía A-4 was built from near Madrid to Seville in only 3-4 years, and that's like 500 km.The purpose:The 1992's Universal Exposition of Seville

Yes, they also built A-92 from Granada to Sevilla at that time. Andalusia had a pretty extensive system by 1992, compared to many other autonomous communities.

If most of the autovia's were only built in the last 20 years, what were those previous highways in Spain like? Just 2 lane highways?

  • @EuropeanRoads

Yes pretty much. The concept of 'four-lane divided highways' (not being a freeway) is pretty uncommon in Europe compared to North America. Almost all motorways were preceded just by two-lane roads. Spain had a decent system of high quality two-lane roads, whereas Portugal had a lot of very curvy two-lane roads before their motorway construction boom in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Well done and there is a difference between the exit numbers of an Autopista & Autovia is that the Autopista uses sequential exit numbering like Interstate 95 NJ Turnpike & I-87 & I-90 NY Thruway but Autovia kilometer based exit numbers like 401 & QEW Toronto, ON. Link en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exit_number . Speaking of the A8🇪🇸 it does go all the way to 🇫🇷 Boudreaux since it becomes A63 Basque coast Motorway at Irun Hendaye the place where Adolf Hitler met Francisco Franco in 1941.

Scenery is amazing! Why are some parts with such a low speed limit (80)? I mean there are even special lanes for slower vehicles on uphill sections, yet limit is 80.

In Spain, when driving thru tunnels, speed is usually limited to 80, no matter the type of tunnel
