VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Not all rigs have to be built for full time travel. This family built this awesome DIY shuttle bus conversion to explore during the down times in their city. For some, being close to friends and family is more important than hitting the road, and I totally understand that. Regardless if you are building for full time or part time, this tour video has a ton of great info!

    Not everyone that builds a tiny house wants to travel full time. This couple converted a shuttle bus for family adventures. Is fulltime something you are considering or looking to adventure from time to time?

    Too many people nowadays built these incredible shuttle bus or ambulance conversions in many creative ways and they appear to be allergic to plumbing. This bus could use a better freshwater tank, a gray water tank, a shower and an enclosed toilet that could be located with the shower enclosure. I would put the shower/toilet enclosure right where the side door is. I would remove the folding doors on the passenger side, level the steps to the bus floor and use the side door (if it fits) as the new passenger door with a folding ladder. I would replace the side door with a panel and a smaller window for the shower. I would put the nice jump seat at the front.

  • @germanevision

    The absence of a wet bath has saved so much space and the interiors are bright and expansive. Now convert the doorway space of 3x3 feet into a convertible bathroom with used water running out from under the door. You will also get privacy for toilet while not having to spare any space for the bathroom. Beautiful layout.

  • @tinabost4748

    Germane Vision , I can’t quite picture that. Also, the used water would need to go to a grey tank.

  • @germanevision

    @germanevision

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@tinabost4748 It's not complicated. The doorway and bathroom are two spaces which cannot be used for storage. And you cannot design the interiors without them. So use the doorway of 3'x3' (or bigger as you wish) as convertible bathroom. Make the walls of the bathroom with collapsible material and not permanent structures so that the bathroom does not disturb the openness of the interiors. Pull the walls of the bathroom only when you need to use it. If you use water only during boondocking along with appropriate natural soaps then it will be like an outdoor shower and you can take a shower without clothes.

    I love that you are teaching your son on the road. I think road schools kids are the smartest. My children are grown but I think if this lifestyle had been popular we would have done it. I took my daughters on trips when they were young and it was always a learning experience. For a while I was a single mom. I should have considered this as an option but it just was not on my radar. Now my husband and I would like to travel some. Looking to convert a bus or van into our road home. We want to visit our daughter in Florida and take our dogs with us, getting out there soon hopefully. Y’all talking care be safe and well! Leslye

    Lovely bus build! What an airy and open feel. Love the name, Bus Lightyear, so clever! What a lovely couple you are. Very nice tour, great design layout. I like the way the bedroom area has those partial walls on either side. Reminds me of a Chinese garden with wall cutouts separating spaces. 0:55 - The toaster oven is the type that gets very hot on all sides. It needs ventilation. Even if you put firebrick in that cabinet, it will overheat its own controls. Very big fire hazard on that toaster oven. Maybe a slide out tray would work. Please be sure to take it out each time you use it.

    Seldom do the toilets have privacy unless they have shower big enough to sit in. Some people explain how it works for them. He says They only use it for #1. Many van lifers use gyms to shower. Many gyms allowed kids or they could take turns while one of them stay with the child in the bus.

    How come no one ever asks how the couple has privacy for intimacy? The child's bed is right over theirs. Is he expected to sleep through it?

    It’s all weird. I wouldn’t want to be using a public gym for showers and a place to go potty. Nope. And kids??? When they gotta go they gotta go. This is not for everyone.

    You could attach some magnets to the ceiling and to each cabinet so that they stay up even when they're heavier :)

    Can the propane tank just sit inside like that? I thought I had heard on other builds that they leak and need a special cubboard with an exterior vent and alarm? Are there special tanks that make it ok?? Great build!
