Right after Tori had finished recording her Star Wars (the Original Trology) Reactions, seemed to be the perfect time for a Spaceballs Reaction.
With Toy having started rcording Star Trek The Original Series and Star Trek The Next Generation Reactions for our Patreon, it was also the perfect time for her to revisit this movie.
With Dark Helmet standing in for Darth Vader, Snotty standing in for Scotty, Yogurt as Yoda, and Lone Star as Han Solo, it's the perfrct time to watch the Mel Brooks classic.
The girls laughed so much that at times it seemed like their radar has been jammed!
Abby says that Bill Pullman has a forgettable face. Toy and Tori disagree after his performance as Lone Star.

Despite the name it is not an adult movie, is actually a brilliant comedy on dating from a different perspective. Great Reaction....... "Putting on the Ritz," "People Fall in Love Everyday" George Lucas and Mel Brooks are Great Firends..... When Mel Told George about his movie idea, George gave Mel full access to ILM for the special Effects, The only Condiditions were "No Merchandise (No Copetition for Star Wars) and the lead could not look like Han Solo (So Mel Drssed him as Indiana Jones)..... Dot Matrix was an early type of printer for home computers, She is voiced by comedian Joan Rivers..... Vespa is a classic european Scooter, Prince Valium, Valium is a drug that makes ya sleepy, he is styled after the old Comic Strip "Prince Valiant" set in medevil times.... The Radar Guy is Michael Winslow who is best known as Larvell Jones from the Police Academy Movies.... and Yes, He makes all those sounds...... "Let's take a 5 minute break, Smoke 'em if ya got em"....... The spaceballs do not appear on screen for 5 minutes........ Mel Brooks like to play multiple roles in his movies... Dark Helmet playing with the dolls was totally unscripted.... They just gave Rick the dolls and let him Improv/FreeStyle........ "May the Swartz be with you" was the slogan of Mel Brooks' Lawyer who was named Schwartz...... John Hurt actually reprized his role for the Aien diner scene....

Toy & Tori Dark Helmet is played Rick Moranis. Rick Moranis has a long career in entertainment. Then 1997, Rick took a hiatus from acting to raising his children after his wife died in 1991. In 1997, Rick became full time father. Then Rick is slowly returning to acting with a few selected roles. Rick reprised his Dark Helmet to voice the villain on the sitcom, The Goldbergs in 2018. Besides Spaceballs, Rick starred in Honey, I shrunk the kids and its sequel, Honey, I blew up the kid. In 2020, Rick signed on for 3rd sequel in Shrink (Blew Up) series for "Shrunk"

One of my all time favourite movies! Rick Moranis ended up costing Mel Brooks "a lot" of money, since the crew (including Brooks) couldn't help but laugh during his scenes, most notably when he first appears on screen and has breathing problems. George Lucas lended the services of his company ILM to shoot some scenes. The escape pod dropping out was actually a (once) deleted scene from A New Hope. He agreed to let Brooks make the movie on the condition that he couldn't make merchandise, hence the running gag throughout the movie. And he didn't want Lone Star to dress like Han, so Brooks chose to dress him like Indiana Jones. Rick Moranis improvised the entire scene where he plays with his dolls, he was sick and had a fever that day and still came up with one of the best scenes. The original title was Planet Moron. Brooks had a bad reaction to the Yogurt make up and got a bad rash around his eyes. The voice Dark Helmet has when his... dark helmet visor is down is inspired by David Prowse, the physical actor for Darth Vader in the original trilogy, and how he sounded with the mask on set. You can find footage of it.

Put on the ritz! 😃🙂 Other Mel Brooks movies: The original 60's movie version of The Producers, which was not only his breakthrough but also Gene Wilder's breakthrough. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein (which parodies the Boris Karloff Frankenstein movie & its two sequels, Bride of Frankenstein & Son of Frankenstein), High Anxiety (which parodies a lot of Alfred Hitchcock's movies such as Vertigo, Birds & Psycho), History of the World part 1 (Originally there wasn't a part 2, but they recently made a part 2 in TV-show form), Robin Hood: Men in Tights (parodies Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves & the Errol Flynn Robin Hood movie) & Dracula: Dead & Loving It (parodies Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula movie & the Bela Lugosi Dracula movie). Here's three very underrated Mel Brooks movies that are worth watching: The Twelve Chairs, Silent Movie (which parodies the silent movie genre) & Life Stinks.

In Greek mythology there’s someone who eats themselves to death (Erysichthon of Thessaly - I just checked). I think he chopped down a special tree, the rightful owner cursed him with an insatiable appetite and he eventually ran out of things to eat (I didn’t check that but I think it’s right(ish)).

I saw just yesterday that Spaceballs 2 is currently in the works now as well. It'll be produced by Mel Brooks. They're currently working on the script from what I read.

It’s been mentioned that Spaceballs 2 is in the works, and on of the ending scenes in History of The World Part I (Jews in Space) will be expanded on. Also Mel Brooks played both the Governor Scroob and Yogurt. He actually could not sell merchandise because of contractual agreements with Lucas Films and Star Wars. Mel Brooks has made many movies and alsoo was a writer for the original Get Smart series. For his other movies I recommend in order: Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Men in Tights, History of the World Part I.

You guys are probably too young to remember this, but in 1987, when I was 9 years old, ABC had a TV show called "Max Hedroom", which was an adaption of a British TV show, with a "computerized news anchor". He would always glitch and repeat things and stutter....in the Pizza the Hut scene, the robotic assistant and the guy who directs the call to that was a reference to Max Hedroom. 🙂 Lots of good things happened in 1987....the release of the IBM PS/2 line, IBM's first PC to use the new 80386, the first PC programs that made use of CD-ROM, such as Microsoft Bookshelf (it was text only!) and encyclopedias on the Mac that had graphics, and also the liquid nitrogen superconductor (way warmer than liquid helium ones), three Friday the 13ths.....and, my personal favorite event of 1987, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was released! 🙂

One of the DVD version of the movie has the whole thing in fast-forward, dubbed "Watch in Ludicrous Speed". The Merchandising stuff is a running that Mel Brooks put in, because George Lucas OKed the movie and let them use ILM for the effects, on the condition that no merchandise be made from Spaceballs. Thus, almost everything in the movie is "Spaceballs the placemant", "Spaceballs the toilet paper", etc. I would definitely recommend Robinhood Men in Tights.

We now live in a world where dot matrix printers barely exist. A number of airlines will still use them for passenger manifests but I'm sure there's very few use cases left. I love when Barf is loaded up with suitcases and he drops them all except the one in his teeth to talk to Lone Starr. So good.

Puttin' On The Ritz, baby! And in case it's not obvious by now, this movie was the source of the names for Elon's "extra-fast" versions of Tesla cars. The first was a Model S that could be had with "Ridiculous Speed." Later came a model with "Ludicrous Speed." And finally, the Model S "Plaid." They even have badges inspired by the graphics for these speeds as used in the movie.

22:23 This is a gag. When Mel Brooks wrote Spaceballs he knew he would be sailing pretty close to infringing on Star Wars copyright. So he rang George Lucas and asked him if it was ok. They came to an agreement, part of which is Spaceballs couldnt produce any merchandise from the film

  • @matthewcompton3448
    @matthewcompton34485 күн бұрын

Fun Facts: Although there are many jokes about merchandise, Spaceballs didn't actually have any. Apparently George Lucas asked Mel not to make any, which led to the merchandise jokes/gags within the film. George also asked Mel not to have a character dressed like Han Solo, so Lone Starr is dressed like Indiana Jones instead. Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), which was owned by Lucas, did the special effects for the film. The Millennium Falcon (or a ship that looks just like it) is parked outside the space diner.

I absolutely looooved this movie when it first came out. Pretty sure I saw it at the cinema... I just died laughing. :P For Mel Brooks movies, you HAVE to see Blazing Saddles. It's a classic!! Fun fact: the guy who had the alien burst out of his chest (40:33) is the original actor from the Alien movie (John Hurt) who had the alien burst out in THAT movie too, which is why he said "Oh no, not again". Freakin funny and clever on multiple levels. :) I absolutely love this movie.... I really wish more satire movies were made today at this level. Just such a classic. I put this up there with Life of Brian and Monty Python Holy Grail. So so good!

THAT is Mel Brooks playing the president and Yogurt! George Lucas told him not to dreas Lone Star like Luke Skywalker, so he dressed him like Indiana Jones. He also told him no merchandising. That's the reason for the merchandising gag.
