    Three of the favorite parts for me were: - the floating shelves above the technical installations - the position of the bench hinges, that enable convenient opening - the central control and fuse/distribution panel Pricing for van builds should not include exterior, unless it's a roof rack made to carry solar panels and suspension upgrades to handle excess weight of the build. Other exterior stuff should have a separate price, just like the vehicle itself.

    I like this guy’s honesty. Bed lifts are nosy, take away from storage (upper cabinets) . They also lower head room for tall people. They also have huge upside. Don’t need to make bed, lower area can be used for additional bed or living dining area. Quality craftsmanship

    Great layout. Question: The electric is 600 amp-hours plus 280 watt alternator, 3,000 watt inverter and no solar. I do wonder who we could find to put this size of electric in much smaller truck camper setups. The no or little solar is particularly applicable to truck campers so I want this kind of no-solar-involved kind of power. I don't think I'm alone. I do plan to live in a truck camper and I would be happy to prioritize this much power in a small truck camper set up. 5,000 btu A/C and diesel heater in hot and very cold weather is a must for living. I doubt if custom van builders would want to deal with something like a truck camper. But who knows. Electric like this especially alternator takes specialized knowledge not to mess up a truck warranty. Be interested in where to look for someone experienced enough to deal with this scenario and would be interested in doing it.

  • @JarrodTocci

    @JarrodTocci

    Жыл бұрын

    You absolutely can use a separate alternator for a truck camper. It’s all the same ideas. Running the A/C through the night is the tough part or even all day in a hot day because you won’t have solar to offset the power usage. Notice this van didn’t have an A/C unit. If you go with one I recommend using a low voltage unit to save yourself some power usage

  • @Chuck_Hooks

    @Chuck_Hooks

    Жыл бұрын

    @Jarrod Tocci Thank you. The electric setup I found most inspiring and applicable to this discussion was the tour you did with Shane and his "zombie" van. His electric was rare in that he added an autostart system that would start the vehicle whenever voltage dropped below a certain percentage. Which, as I understand it, means indefinite lithium battery charging as long as there is sufficient fuel in the van/truck. And that would seem to be the ideal solution for no solar (and even with solar) for anyone trying to live full time in most any kind of vehicle used for long term boondocking/living as I want to do. Shane also made an insightful comment saying his setup requires a lot of knowledge and opined that his kind of sophisticated electric setup is not for a first-time DIY. In fact, I believe Shane said he hired a mechanic to do some of this. I gather such trusted electric expertise is difficult to find. So I hope there might be more discussion of where to find these kinds of van/truck camper electric experts in future van tours you do. Very inspiring. You do a great job.

    100k just to build out a van. That's on top of a Mercedes Sprinter which runs about 60k new. For 160k you can buy an incredibly nice, much bigger RV, and a brand new vehicle to pull behind it. I've been looking into the stealth van type of living, but from what I've seen you're gonna be better off just RV'ing.

    Man, i watch youtube mainly on my TV so dont often see all the comments. Id say bit disheartening, way to many watching video and then complain about video category or build price. Not many of us can buy $200k adventure van for skiing. But some people can and i like seeing these builds for dream and the inspiration for my build. And when your looking at starting price of $60k+ just for base van before components or labor on a full custom build to customer spec, it adds up fast. The old saying goes "work hard, play hard"

  • @JarrodTocci

    @JarrodTocci

    Жыл бұрын

    Very common statement. I’ll have to look this up but I’m guessing the average cost of a home is more then this van, in the US. There are parts of this country you can get a 100k home so I understand that. What people are always forgetting is most of those that have a rig like this use it to travel with friends or family to adventure and live life. Better question is why does it bother you (or anyone for that matter) how others spend their money. If it brings that person joy then good on them

    Very few can afford to buy or maintain a Sprinter. I'm done watching essentially the same van with the same build. Even if I had the money, truly, this would not be what I'd spend it on. Perhaps it's time to branch out in another direction....you are limiting your audience and base clientele to the top, what? 10%? at a time when people are finding themselves homeless for the first time and families are hungry.

    Couple of things here. Clearly you don’t watch my channel regularly or you’d see I’m personally building a tiny home to live out of, make sustainable, and show others how to do so. Another note, I show tours of vans because I find them exciting and the RV industry isn’t going anywhere. I feel some of what you’re saying is exaggerating, but I can see where you’re coming from. In the very near future I’ll also be tour more companies that are doing good things around this travel/living industry. What I don’t understand is you watched this video, then proceeded to comment saying “I’m done watching…” If that’s the case then so be it. Why say it? Why go out of your way to try and tell me my channel needs to change? When I get those feeling about others I’ll step back and think to myself maybe it’s something I personally need to work on. Why am I feeling this way sorta thing. I hope you can find peace in the feelings you’re having.

    Some of what you’re saying is true. But what you don’t know is how nervous people are on camera. You don’t see the editing and what maybe seems like I’m cutting someone off I’m actually cutting out the silence waiting for them to talk and then I interject with a question to keep the tour going. There are many more things you don’t see or know about how or why I conduct the tours the way I do. I appreciate your perspective on this but people don’t know until they know
