Huahua covers and rearranges songs and makes singing to be a performance, and go further he makes a performance to be a story, a journey of healing and being healed. So Huahua is an artist more than a singer.

Thank you for reacting to HuaHua, this is a hard performance to take, it's art. The rules in this show called The Next is that amateur singers challenge a professional singer to rearrange a song in 24 hour, so HuaHua was given Dad I'm Home to rearrange, and he thought the message it conveys was too important and he chose to perform it in this different way to give it more impact, and you know HuaHua is an excellent rapper too, he could well have rapped it too but that was his choice to shock the audience in performing it this way. This is such an amazing performance, and as a side note, this didn't happen to HuaHua, nor did it happen to Jay Chou, HuaHua had a sad upbringing, living with his father who was a businessman always away on trips and not caring too much about HuaHua.. I don't watch it often and I still have to brace myself before watching it with reactors. About Jay Chou, HuaHua has rearranged and covered many of Jay Chou songs in various TV shows, and Jay Chou has always let HuaHua do so, he's never refused any of his songs to HuaHua, whatever Jay Chou fans will say. Your reaction is truly the best I've watched to date.

He rearranged the song in 24 hours for a competition, some people don't like his changing Jay Chou songs, others appreciate what he does with it. It's not among my favourite pieces by Hua Chenyu, but he is a master at being able to sing emotions. Hua Chenyu had a lonely childhood & complicated relationship with his father who was mostly absent for his formative years. I'm not sure what styles of music you normally listen to, but I'd suggest if you wish to look at Hua Chenyu you can look at pieces such as "Child" "Qi Tian" "Bullfight" "I really want to love this world" "Illusion and reality" "When the world forgets me" His live concert performances are spectacular.

Hua Chenyu was a Judge/Mentor on this series. Contestants Challenged a Judge/Mentor and if they got more votes than the Judge, moved to next round. In later rounds, Judges became Mentors to the remaining Contestants. (One of the best is Hua Chenyu and Su Shiding singing Traditional "Nanping Evening Bells"... with a switch up). 😳 He's a prolific composer/music Arranger himself, and multi instrumentalist. He sings, Rock, Rap, Reggae 😂, Pop, SynthPop, Electronic, Ballads, Traditional Chinese, Broadway etc etc. Think Bowie crossed with Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Steven Tyler. 😍 He casts spells over audiences, whether this, or fun, or buzzing. This and "Fake Monk" are his famous Performance pieces. Thank you. Enjoyed your Reaction.

It was a show where challengers were competing against famous singers who got assigned songs and 24 hours to re-arrange them. It isn't a story from his life. He simply has the capacity to express feelings. Wonderful reaction! Thank you! There are many haters around, don't pay attention to them.

While physical abuse has never been mentioned in relation to Hua's homelife, he did have a horrible upbringing. He was horribly neglected. He was fed, clothed, had dental appointments, all of his physical needs were met. He had music lessons, first the flute at 5 or 6, piano a few years later, guitar a few years after that. You would think he lived a blessed life. Here's why he didn't. His parents divorced when he was 2, and his mother moved away. His father got custody but was never home. He hired people to take care of HuaHua, and he told his son, "Don't ever expect me to teach you anything." He seldom came home from overseeing silver mines, and when he was home, he paid his son precious little attention. HCY was a wonderful student who was never (his dad admitted this on TV) praised, not so much as a "good job." He placed second in a national math competition. You'd think that would have merited some sort of acknowledgement. Nope. How loveable could a child raised in such a manner feel? I had a similar childhood, so I can answer that. Not loveable at all. It's especially painful because there's no outward sign of abuse, little to complain about, or so it seems to the outside world. But the pain of being nothing more than a duty is relentless. I believe that's the pain you hear in HuaHua's voice. The rehearsal was filmed, and he cried a lot. His biggest concern was that he not break down during the performance, so he was walking a fine line. He wrote the last line himself. "I still want to call you Papa." Many people say that this is the part that affected them the most. The silence at the end didn't stop simply because he stood up; it ended when the music director started applauding. HuaHua is fearless in this performance, as he always is. He does what he thinks is right regardless of how he expects it to be received. Thanks for an insightful reaction. You come across as extremely bright & knowledgeable. My sole complaint, and it isn't a huge one, is that you qualified your positive statements so much. ("That was the best punt return by a left-handed Taurus on a snowy Saturday night in November since 1991." Do you see how every qualifier drains the power from the original point?) This wasn't "just as important" as Jay Chou's version. Your explanation for why Jay Chou's version was more comfortable was brilliant. It wasn't one of the most powerful live performances of a cover that's you'd seen in a very, very long time. It was a powerful performance of an important Jay Chou song that brought you to tears. No comparisons or qualifiers needed. Thank you for a reaction that I enjoyed tremendously and will remember for a long time. I hope you'll stick with Hua Chenyu. Not all of his fans are as old and cranky as I am. I subscribed.

This performance really is something else. It transcends into a performance art piece, and its strength is in Chenyu’s very involved performance. I liken this to watching a short play or performance segment. Of cos the original is an absolute classic, one of the all time great songs in Chinese rap history, but this is something else. It’s not something to rival, but something to compliment the actual lyrical meaning with emotional heft. The original is a message, this is a heartfelt speech.

Every point was dead on and some new perspectives that I had not heard on this performance. What a great comment about Hua "singing beyond himself." I hope you continue to discover what type of artist he is. He does not cater to the "norm" when it comes to composing and performing. Btw, thank you Jacob for recommending this prolific song as it is rarely suggested.

Thank you for reacting to Hua Chen Yu. Totally agree with you. It’s not a easy to song reading. Actually when I first listened to the original song, to me it’s just a song and I didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics. I knew what the song meant but to me just a entertainment piece. Until I listened to Hua’s version and put me into tears. Hope you react more to Hua Chen Yu’s music. ❤️🌹🌹

I disagree with you. Hua Chenyu is an amazing artist. He's brilliant in adapting songs, the king of stage who always draw you into his performance, completely huamazing. A very serious singer who doesn't simply covers any song. He studies the lyrics in depth and always managed to give a new life to the song. He gives the whole package, he takes into consideration of his appearance, the lightings, instrumentation, stage props, his intonation and harmonies etc... Nunchucks was well received by so many, he executed the softness and hardness so well! As for this Dad I'm home, he wasn't sure whether his way of performing will do justice to the song. I think he did it, he managed to deliver and conveyed the meaning of the song in a very unique way. The professional singers in this program were all awed by him. If he’s not good, the TV stations in China won’t dare to invite him to The Singer, The Next and many other shows. You must be one of the many who don’t understand him or hasn’t listened enough. Or maybe you are so used to the norms and can’t accept something new/unique. His compositions/musical pieces have deep meanings that sometimes require multiple hearings to get the essence or messages he’s trying to put across. He is a warm person with lots of love and appreciates the love he received. He is most at ease with his Martians family where they can talk freely and call him any name. Professionally He’s a multi talented musician who’s on a mission to bring some changes to the Chinese music industry! I’m glad to have found him!

Hua Chenyu doesnt do covers, he always rearranges any song to make it his own. Which is the only way to do it.. and he does it brilliantly, all his Jay Chou rearrangements are huamazing. Especially Nunchucks. I never even heard of Jay Chou before Hua Chenyu introduced me to him. He is ok, but not to my taste.
