I am 62 years old and a retired Aircraft Engineer. I have been watching your channel for close to three years now, and I still consider you and your brother my trusted 3D printer review KZread channel. It has been fun watching you guys grow. :) I took a chance and bought the SOVOL SV08 on launch day, paying $449, and have been sitting patiently waiting for your review. Hahahaha, I feel a bit more relieved about my purchase now. Keep up the great work!

Wonderful video, Aurora and brother ❤ As a proud voron 2.4 builder and owner I can say this printer is nothing like a voron 2.4, other than the general shape. A voron is about extensibility (i.e. standard part usage, modularity) and most of all - open source community. This printer is indeed square - but it’s not a cheaper voron for sure 😊. That been said, it does look like a valid 3d printer for sure, and as always, again - great content 🎉

I always wait for your review. And as a lover of Sovol this has me SO EXCITED. I really love their history of not just cloning but taking pieces from different printers and putting them in a way that actually works and at a ridiculously low price point usually. So this combined with their announced CoPrint partnership version. I'm so hyped. Can't wait for the community and hopefully sovol to iron out the rough spots. I'm also curious how the quality will come out with the coPrint unit.

@AuroraTechReview Your channel is truly top-notch when it comes to 3D printer reviews. The quality of your videos is outstanding, providing accurate and trustworthy information that is immensely helpful for anyone researching printers. You are my go-to source for honest, unbiased assessments that cut through the hype. What sets you apart is how you go beyond just covering the core product specs. Your reviews dive deep into real-world usage, highlighting potential issues and headaches that manufacturers should address. You also suggest complementary upgrades and modifications to enhance the user experience. This comprehensive approach provides incredible value. The review formula you've honed is absolutely perfect. Maintaining consistent testing methodologies across printers allows for reliable cross-product comparisons. I appreciate that you've stuck to this formula across all your videos - it's a big reason why your channel is so revered. In fact, I wish all reviewers for any product category would adopt a similarly thorough, standardized approach. It's hard to suggest any improvements to your videos because the effort and care you put into them is exemplary. Your channel has solidified its position as the premier destination for 3D printer reviews that enthusiasts can trust implicitly. The accuracy and depth of information you provide is unmatched. I highly appreciate the phenomenal work you do to educate and guide the community. Keep up the fantastic reviews!

Congratulations on another excellent review video, as your Sovol SV08 review was the one I was waiting for. One thing that would make this very good machine truly exceptional would be if they added an option for a chamber heater as well as the optional enclosure. I am very surprised that Qidi Tech is still the only company making consumer-level priced printers with chamber heaters. It will be interesting to see if users of this printer install their own chamber heaters, and it will be interesting to see how well a chamber heater will work with this machine.

Something goes majorly wrong with a bambu and its a waiting game and hopefully its a part you can replace easily. I noticed that the table the printer is sitting on is oscillating during the print. Even though the printer goes through shaping calibration to compensate for resonance, if the system is near it's natural frequencies it can cause ringing in the print finish. A fun experiment is during a print start to add some heavy weights to the table and it will change the ringing pattern in the surface. It will also change as the gantry moves upwards because of the mechanical advantage of the test mass (print head). The problem is also amplified as the acceleration and velocity of the print head is increased. It increases by the velocity squared and the acceleration cubed. I cured this problem by putting my printer on the kitchen counter that's essentially immovable. Using flexible pads under the feet of the printer can cause similar problems. The audio quality of your production has improved. Great review as usual.

  • @MichaelSheldon

At one point, the table was moving so much, my brain tried to convince me that was a bed-slinger. I really think a couple of those tests need to be re-done with the printer sitting on a more stable surface, like the floor? Especially the Alpaca and wastebasket prints.

What Sovol had done here, if you can step back and appreciate it, it LEAP forward from the "small improvement" mindset to looking at what the best printer you can get is, and then producing it with very little loss of quality and delivering it at a reasonable price and open source to ensure plenty of user mods. They Unbambu'ed the industry. Creality copied the X1C, (sort of) Sovol said "nah, if we are going to copy, what is the best printer I can get?" then copied THAT. It will force the other players to follow suit. Bambu promised and end to bed slingers, Sovol is moving toward that and dragging all the also rans with it.

Great review. Sovol's are such a mixed bag to me. Their low price is attractive to new users but these printers are NOT designed for them. Instead they're really for advanced users that know how to work around the inbuilt in flaws of these cheaper products. What keeps me from buying more for Sovol is that they use a lot of proprietary parts now which runs counter for the needs of advance users to fix part flaws.

The real question is if the gap in price between Bambu class printers needing little or no out of box tweaks or Sovol class where some time and attention will get you to a great printer can be justified for a given print volume. I'm saving my money to buy the replacement for my beloved dialed-in heavily modded CR-10 300mm x 300mm where my reasons to upgrade would be print speed and bed size. The SV08 is tempting.

They should lower the default speeds/accelerations, increase the default retraction distance slightly, and lower the default z offset slightly. I'm very curious about those minor tweaks enhancing the quality. Great review still as always! 👏

Amazing review, very into depth! Really exciting machine, I would have got one if it wasn't for the proprietary hotend. I also think the fact that they don't use aluminum extrusion is a bit of a letdown as well, 2020 (or any other size) gives you so many mounting options for every mod that you can dream of. Great machine for its pricepoint and a lot of similarities with the 2.4 but if I speak for myself, I don't think it will compete with building a voron. Its a different experience (sourcing, building, configuring, tuning and modding)

I have used SOVOL printers for a while now and any of the models that use the induction probe have z-offset issues. The solution is to toss it in the trash and put a BLTouch in its place. Both my SV06 and SV07 Plus had near identical issues as this until the probe was swapped out. Since then perfect zoffset with no drift EVER.

  • @renxula

    @renxula

    28 күн бұрын

My SV06 seems to have a systematic bias in the probe, so that on the left the nozzle was too low, and on the right it was too high. I was able to fix it by manually editing the probed mesh, adding something like [+0.04, +0.02, 0, -0.02, -0.04] to each row. I honed in the offsets by printing small squares, and issuing the mesh edit G-codes from pronterface's terminal.

@@renxulaThat's X-axis twist. The probe is offset from the nozzle in Y so any twist in X translates to a changing Z-offset from left to right. Make sure your Z towers square to the base. You can also install Marlin with Z twist compensation.

  • @renxula

@@p39483 Thank you! I hadn't thought about it, but that makes perfect sense. If they had put the probe exactly in line with the nozzle, the twist wouldn't be an issue 🤦‍♂️ I'll try to straighten the frame, and have a look at the compensation feature now that I know it's a thing. Cheers!

Those tolerance test results seem sus (not doubting your results, but that's a VERY good result). Could it be a result of the under extrusion that Nero3d had with his? Did you by chance check e-steps? I've seen a lot of manufacturers shipping klipper machines with improperly calibrated e-steps.
