Exactly, and it's even more common than most people realize. I can't read a lick of music but have played guitar in many bar bands over the last 21 years but can also play bass, drums, piano & some mandolin. Fiddle on the other hand has been kicking my butt a little here lately but I'm working on it & am confident I'll add that to my repertoire as well in the future. In the band/musicians circles my experiences have been its way more common to run into self taught musicians that don't read music than those who can read it, especially at bluegrass festivals & such. @@MrMd5555 exactly. Sat down to a piano at age 6. Heard chet Atkins play at age 8 ,said my I got to do that. Grade 5 through ,7 band played Trumpet with the super basics whole single noted music. Can play about any instrument I pick up. However, started learning music theory and basic reading music late in life the back door way. I strongly recommend getting basic paino/ keyboard lessons and knowledge even for ear players. It will make your advancement much easier. I'm retired play my guitars every day. Need to get the piano up and going. And the sax and mandolin just rest in their cases. Perhaps this winter. Too many projects.
This is the best rendition of "The Orange Blossom Special" that I have ever heard. I absolutely love the way you blended Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, I. Allegro", Rossini's "William Tell Overture" and Aaron Coplin"s "Hoe-down" into the song. This is a true masterpiece.
