North Face didn't win. Amicable settlement was reached between the parties. And what South Butt did is completely different then the opening for South Park episode. South Butt were selling merchandise using a similar enough logo to North Face. That would be like selling sneakers with a Jordan logo holding ball dunking with its left hand instead of right and figure being of a slightly obese person. Jordan and / or Nike could go after them for copyright infringements cause the logos are too similar and may cause customers to confuse the brands and being the same. What South park did with its intro is technically protected under first amendment under parody. Disney could try to go after them but tbh I don't know too many attorneys that would advise Disney to sue as the intro they used was clearly seems to fall under parody. Would more then likely be a waste of money to file and defend a lawsuit based on copyright infringement in this instance.

@@trembledust6819 With the preeedent of Dismaland, it was not probable they would go the copyright infrigement route. There are companies like Nintendo that have a way worse reputation in terms of chasing fans or critics for copyright infrigement by parodic or derived content, but Disney we tend to pay more attention too because of you know, faimily values. While companies like Nintendo are generally percieved as "kid friendly" or "for the kids"; Disney it's a company whose target are largely the parents. It is funny how Disney actually works as a remote baby-sitter; providing parents with the material they can just stuck their kids in front of, and hope they get some good ol' clean american values without any parenting on their part. Which gives Disney some nice return in terms of those same kids nagging their parents in turn for Disney everything merchandise, from overly priced band-aids to princess themed bachelorette parties at themed parks. I think there's even like a Disney neighbourhood you can move into at Disney World, if you are super rich. So of course, they need to get with the times and provide babysitting material for new generations. That's what those are. They are not trying to be woke, and they are not trying to please the fans. They know they just need kids and tweens wanting to consume the rehashed parent aproved content they are trying to hook them with, same as with many of the franchises they own. And of course they tried to go after South Park when that was challenged. Like you can make Mickey Mouse try to take over china and nobody bats an eye; but acusse Disney of beign insensitive in their content and Disney loses it because then parents start to pay attention.

Not quite. One can still be sued, yet the defendant would most likely win with a strong fair use argument. In the United Kingdom for example, there is a weird complication however because their libel and slander laws are more in favor of the plaintiff. Therefore, satire is often negated in some ways and cannot contain as many actual representations of real people. Or creators still do it anyways and maybe get sued. There are also some actual hate speech and hate imagery laws in Europe. For example: Some people got in some trouble when they made a rainbow flag look like a swastika pattern by duplicating it and rotating it 4 times (which was obvious political or social satire, yet was not viewed the same there as it may have been viewed in America).

Satire is protected by law. If Disney sued them they would be violating the first amendment protection of freedom of speech. the Supreme court has consistently ruled that satire is protected by the first amendment.. As long as they do not outright slander Keenedy by claiming she is a criminal or something like that than they can do pretty much anything.

You're the first one I've seen watch this that caught the fact that Randy is causing the collapse of dozens of universes by taking the same problem they went to all that trouble to fix (people being in the wrong universe) and recklessly duplicating it over and over and over with the Handymen. Each single handyman has the potential to collapse not only our universe but his own.. and he brought back dozens of them. Everything was going to shit just from 4 people being in the wrong place... (Cartman, Black female Cartman, Kathleen Kennedy, and Alien Kathleen Kennedy). Now it's the same exact problem but multiplied by 10 and nobody is paying attention to it at all.
