@@thomasohanlon1060 A little hard to react to though. I think the thing that Andy does so well is he treats all of his guests like well-known friends. The jokes start flying, and everyone is obviously comfortable early on. Wild stories are told, and yet that comfort allows for the deep exploration of their humanity. In both Kyle’s book and I believe this interview, they talk about some of the people who helped him get home. The light shined on them pretty amazing if you need a source of hope and decency in the beautiful chaos that is life on this planet.

Mr. Carpenter is an individual that gives us all pause to consider our blessings. In my mind he epitomizes courage, and integrity. His message gains power from the quiet, humble manner with which he delivers it.

Good reaction video. May I suggest a trio of videos on The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I am technology challenged 😊 so I don't know how to send links. The first one I suggest is a video about the changing of the guard. Next is the one about the making of a Tomb Guard, and finally Why you don't mess with the Tomb Guards.

I recently found an old newspaper article (1940s) of my grandfather (Marines) receiving the Navy Cross for WW2 and his Purple Heart. My Dad's commendations for Vietnam War. I never would have seen any of these things if my parents hadn't died last yr. I realized what I was looking at and put them all in a big footlocker together. I haven't gotten the nerve to take them out and actually look at/appreciate them just yet. My emotions are still to raw. I will eventually go thru them again...but when I do my Dad's childhood friend promised me would do it with me, and if I'm ready for it he will tell me about their time in the Army/Vietnam.

The closeness one develops to one’s fellow troops is amazingly powerful. I served with a guy everyone detested. You could look at the MF and SEE that the guy would never fire his weapon in combat. I wanted to get to know him so I befriended him. Turn out, after I got to know him, all of the fears were true. He was a large vag. But also!!! And, I can’t express this enough, I could also tell that if it came down to life or death, he would be the first to jump on a grenade to save one of us. I became his friend. And you know, I miss him.

Yes, a legend. What a beautiful selfless human being. I have 4 generations of soldiers in my family (maybe more but I can’t go back any further). Love to all the soldiers who put on the uniform and served or are still serving.

Thank you for reacting to this piece. My grandfather, 🇺🇸 Army Infantry, was captured by German Nazis in WWII, 3 months into his 1st tour of duty. He spent 9+ months as a prisoner of war before he and a handful of other POWs escaped from the POW camp. Along their tenuous way, on foot, back to Allied/American lines, they ran into 2 German soldiers who were mobilized but wanted nothing to do with Hitler's war. They struck up a bargain...in exchange for acting as their guards doing a prisoner transfer between camps, if/when they reached Allied/American lines my grandfather & the other escaped POWs would vouch for the 2 Germans so they could essentially defect & live in peace elsewhere. One of those Germans was an artist and gave my grandfather a double-sided drawing/sketch on a single sheet of paper he drew when they spent Easter night in a German-held jail in an occupied town during their escape. On one side it is a lush untouched valley with a stream running through it...on the other side a bombed-out city in flames. My grandfather never spoke of his experiences in the war except to my grandmother - once, my aunt - once and myself - once(I had a junior high school history assignment to interview a WWII veteran & my grandad had a softspot for me. He didn't tell me all the horrors & traumas he endured, though I now know what he told my grandma & aunt. The one trauma he told me of was that he was forced to dig graves for Germans KIA while being forced to watch a wagon fill up with Allied & American KIA soldiers & dead POWs bodies until it was overfilled then be taken out, emptied in a pit outside of camp and then it would return empty to be filled again. He focused what he told me on the escape & journey to freedom...particulary on those 2 Germans, their conversations, the gamble on spending a night in a German-held warm jail with a shower, fresh clothes, a bed and FOOD over yet another night in a cold hard field, in rags, under a tree starving & that epic drawing.) That drawing sat alone, in honor & rememberance, on a small table in a double-sided chrystal frame in my grandparent's living room. When they passed away, my uncle had very high quality copies made for each of us in the family. All of us have it diaplayed in our homes. My grandfather was a soft-spoken, intelligent & reverent man much like Kyle Carpenter...had he lived to see this video or hear of Kyle's story & heroism, though he really never spoke about his time or sacrifices in the military, I know he would have been so proud of him.

The One-eyed Scout who Liberated a Whole Town by Himself, and The First Medal of Honor Ever Recorded are 2 more along the same line you may want to watch. The One-eyed Scout was a Canadian (Leo Major), he and John Chapman (First Medal of Honor) both got 2 medals. Not down playing this fella just advising that I personally found these 2 also impactful. God Bless all military people!

All that enlist. Enlist for so many different reasons. Liberty, country, money, honor, glory an so on. Yet once you're in combat. All that fades away. An your only thoughts are keeping the guys to your left and right safe. At all costs and by any means necessary. Hence the ten thousand mile stare.

Hey man, no worries shit happens. Always awesome to see people, especially foreigners react to stuff like this, sad it has to happen, but shows what we are capable of and will do for our brothers, when push comes to shove, and men, Marines like him, and other service members that earn this honor are the best among us. And yeah, includes the VC recipients for the British types also, or common wealths further back.

People like him who take a stand against evil barbarism, regardless of what country's military they belong to are the reason we can walk the streets and live our lives. It has always been thus throughout history. Once enough people don't realize this fact, is when things start unraveling...

Oh, am just curious have you checked out Newegg.com? Don’t worry they are a real site and not a scam, and in my experience an amazing company, I’m just wondering if they will ship to you, or how much of a pain it would be.
