8:03 Jono, crabs are so common in the Chesapeake Bay that as a child I would literally just take a pole net (just like it sounds, a long pole with wire ring and a net on the end) and go down to any marina. Blue Crabs like to cling to the footings of the long docks, and I would fill up a bucket (20-30 crabs) in less than an hour.

Baltimore is very very rich in history and beautiful architecture. The star spangled banner (National anthem) was written in Baltimore during the War of 1812. Babe Ruth was born and raised here, his old house is now a museum. Famous poet Edgar Allen Poe lived and died in Baltimore. His house and grave are famous landmarks here. Baltimore is home to the first railroad in America, the first gas street lamp, the ouija board, the worlds shortest residential street, the longest brick building on the east coast, and so many other things.

The church building near the beginning of the video is Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church in Baltimore, built in 1872. Cost at the time was $400k; in today's dollars, estimated at $7.0 to $8.2 million. The green color stone is serpentine metabasalt, once available locally. BTW, we Marylanders can immediately spot outsiders when they talk about boiling seafood (shrimp boil, crab boil, etc.). The local blue crabs are always steamed - boiling makes them soggy and bland.

I was born and raised in Maryland, moved away in 1988 when I joined the Army at 19 years old. When I got out, I moved to the Virginia Beach area in South Eastern Virginia. I've only been back to Maryland a handful of times since 1988. I love Maryland, but I love the Maryland of the 70's and 80's. If you do go to Maryland and are in Baltimore, go to Fort McHenry, it's where the American National Anthem was written and where the battle took place that inspired it.

I am a Marylander! Born and raised. I really wish this gentleman would have mentioned the proximity to DC and all of the memorials, the Smithsonian and all that DC has to offer, but then again, I understand it is a "Maryland" video of course. Another really cool thing to see and to attend is a Maryland Crab Feast, all you can eat. Baltimore is great, Annapolis is great, Jefferson Rock is super cool, you can stand on that rock where Thomas Jefferson stood on October 25, 1783, and you can literally see all three states from that rock, the State of Maryland, West Virginia and the Commonwealth of Virginia; it's beautiful!

I live in Frederick, Maryland. I-70 runs east/west right through the city. I-70 runs from Baltimore to Utah so we get loads of traffic. What he said about drivers is correct, loads of nuts people. Frederick is an hour west of Baltimore and about an hour north of Washington, DC. Our winters are usually mild. We got the first measurable snow in 2years earlier this week. The temp is currently 31°F and we are loving it because yesterday the high temp was 19°F and the 3 days before that it was 13°, 9° and 7° (without wind chill).

I'm from Maryland originally and I can't believe he didn't mention Annapolis which is the capital. Maryland is one of the original 13 colonies and about 98% of Annapolis is on at least one register of historic places (including the National Register). So if you like history, you have to check out Annapolis. It's also home of the US Naval Academy and you'll get some GREAT seafood there. If you're there around the 1st of May you definitely have to check it out. The Annapolis residents and businesses put out decorative flower baskets for May Day and it is absolutely beautiful!

Lifelong Marylander here. The state is beautiful. I'm in the north near the Pennsylvania state line. Something he didn't mention is that our national anthem came from Baltimore. During the war of 1812 when England was trying to subjugate us again, Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner while on a British war ship to negotiate the release of hostages. He watched the british ships bombing Fort McHenry. The British demanded that the fort lower the American flag and surrender, but of course we beat them back for the second time and the American flag was never allowed to touch the ground. We also have historic Annapolis, which at one time was the nation's capital and is where Westpoint Military Academy is. Crabs, Old Bay, Natty Bo, and the Baltimore Orioles baseball team, named after the state bird, are state treasures. And of course we cant' forget the Baltimore Ravens football team. I have relatives who moved to Florida decades ago and we still send them Old Bay seasoning and Utz potato chips because you can't get either in Florida. When it comes to crabs, Maryland knows how to do it. We steam them with Old Bay Seasoning or other local seasoning blends and they are delicious. Go to any surrounding state and they boil their crabs. Not even remotely close in flavor to the way that we prepare blue crabs. The food is fabulous too because of pockets of immigrants who settled in Maryland over the centuries and we celebrate that in places that are informally known as Little Italy, Greek Town, and many other areas, wher eyou can get authentic cuisine from those parts of the world cooked by immigrants who brought their cuisine to Maryland. Yes, there is a high crime rate in Baltimore City, but it's fine to visit during the day. Ocean City is the beach town, as he said, so it's usually crowded with tourists, but very beautiful, and the fresh seafood is plentiful along with local favorites like Dolle's Salt Water Taffy, Fischer's Caramel Popcorn. Thrashers French Fries (with malt vinegar, not apple cider vinegar like he said) and Ponzetti's Pizza. The costs that you mentioned to come to the US are ridiculous, and it's the same when we travel abroad, which is part of the reason that Americans don't travel to foreign countries as a much as Europeans do. it's just cost prohibitive for most people, and why spend all of that money when you can just as easily got to another state and make amazing memories. We are the Great American Melting Pot so we can usually get a small taste of any country that we like within the US, especially as it relates to food.

Some other places to consider in Maryland: Berlin, Smith Island, and St. Micheals on the eastern shore, the US Navy Academy cathedral in Annapolis, Deep Creek Lake, Antietam Civil War Battle Field, Fort McHenry, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad museum. The Mason-Dixon line is the border between Maryland and Delaware and the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland. The markers from the original survey are still in the ground every couple of miles. Marylanders love their flag. The blue crab is native to the Chesapeake Bay. It's meat is sweeter than crabs found elsewhere. The Bay is the largest bay in the world and is the largest home for sailboats. Yes, you can charter a sailboat. But, you may wish to charter a fishing boat out of Ocean City. Cod, tuna, weakfish, marlins are yours for the taking.

I lived in Maryland 14 years and this video did not impressed me. He didn't say anything about the history of one of the original 13 British colonies. Founded by Cecil Calvert, the second Lord of Baltimore, in 1632. But the history goes back to John Cabot who explored the coast of North America for England in 1498. Like other colonists who came from England looking for freedom of religion, Maryland was established for religious freedom for Roman Catholics. One of the best places to visit is St. Mary City, in the south by the Chesapeake Bay, where the first Mass in the colonies was celebrated in March 1634. The city was the largest settlement in Maryland and the seat of the colonial government until 1695. After the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, the Second Continental Congress met in Baltimore, 1776-1777 and Marylander John Hanson served as President of the Continental Congress in 1781-1782. He was the first to serve with the title of President of the United States in Congress Assembled. Ft. McHenry, the site of the Battle with the British in 1814 where the National Anthem was written, is open to visitors. Old Bay spice is not the more notorious thing about Maryland. I never used it at home.

I lived in Maryland (maer-(i)-ln(d) is the typical pronunciation...just swallow the "i" and the second "a" and it'll be close enough) for over 30 years, and like a lot of places, there's a different sort of culture depending which region of the state you are in. Possibly the unifying theme is the pervasive Georgian architecture -- a lot of brick buildings with white trim harking back to colonial times. He didn't mention Annapolis, the state capital and home to the US Naval Academy, but it's a nice visit. I found Ocean City to be too crowded so, honestly, I went to the Delaware beaches instead. One interesting thing to do is to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (aka the Bay Bridge). It's just 7km long, but a lot of people find out whether or not bridges scare them while on it...especially if it's windy or snowy (I, oddly, found crossing it relaxing). As for touristy things...outside of the stuff in Baltimore and Annapolis, just go to DC and visit the Smithsonian museums and the other interesting things that fill the city. I attended the University of Maryland, which is close to DC (and even has taken on some of the non-touristy overflow), and like many, frequently visited the city when I had the time (or needed to do research). As for the state flag...yeah, it's a thing a good way. I've spent most of my life in either Maryland or New Mexico and have been blessed with two great, and beloved, state flags. What I can say about Maryland's, other than it was tedious to draw correctly as a child, is that while it's everywhere, it's not in a belligerent sort of way, like some use the American flag, but more like a comfort and touchstone, like Linus' blanket in the old Peanuts cartoons.

*@Jono*. You're getting closer ole buddy, now just go south a little bit and land right here in the birthplace of America... Virginia, the old dominion. We have it ALL. This is where America was first settled and became a nation, we are known as the birthplace of presidents and our greatest founding fathers were from here. We have the world's 7th longest beach (Virginia Beach), which is next door to Norfolk (the U.S. Navy's Fleet Forces Command) where you can see our biggest & baddest warships as they come and go. Drive west from the coast and visit places like Natural Bridge, VA, and the birthplace of Thomas Jefferson (Charlottesville and Poplar Forrest) where you'll start to see some of our mountains in the Piedmont area. Then go southwest to MY neck of the woods to enjoy the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah area and the world-famous Appalachian Trail (the AT). We have hunting, camping & fishing galore and some of nature's finest and most beautiful woodland mountains (with fantastic streams, rivers and LAKES because I know how much you love water). I'm in the Roanoke Valley area and it's less than 30 minute's drive to get to a Virginia Tech college football game that you'll never forget, and once you cruise on the Blue Ridge Parkway - you'll realize what we have that Texas will never have. :) "Virginia is for Lovers"

Baltimore is no worse than anywhere else. Please don’t quote Channel 45. They don’t have a good thing to say about anything. An obvious agenda

@@robinmills8675 Virginia is for lovers, not vexillology. There are basically three rules to flag design. 3 colors, no words, and it should be simple enough that a child can draw it from memory. I don't think Virginia meets any of those criteria

If you are not into history , Maryland might not be for you. Maryland is one of the 13 original colonies. As such it has a fighters spirit and that spirit shows in everything. The history of the United States runs through Maryland. If you don’t eat seafood this is not a place to be. The Chesapeake Bay is the largest Estuary in the world. Boating and Fishing are ways of life. The Eastern Shore is delightful with all the small towns. The Navel Academy is in Annapolis the Capital. Don’t forget the Baltimore Ravens . A team that embodies the region . The Ravens 🐦‍⬛ is one of the most famous Literary pieces ever written by Edger Allan Poe. It’s only fitting than the Ravens mascots are named Edger, Allen and POE. Never More Never More. Contrary to popular belief Maryland is a southern state and as such is the Northern most Southern state. The Mason Dixon Line runs on the Maryland boarder with PA.

@@jonograhamreacts Then it's well worth the trip. It is also the only place that Steams seafood and not boils it. Once you have it steamed. You wont eat it any other way. Old Bay is cute but Maryland has many other Seafood seasonings. I couldn't find your email address but if you post it. I can send you a list of all the various types they have and after you decide I can send you some. Also there are 5 major Boat Shows a year. In fact I'm getting ready to dig out so I can goto tomorrows Boat Show

I grew up in Maryland and couldn't agree more. Just because something is made locally, doesn't mean it's popular AMONG the locals.
