    Agree with the kayak. It is thought that natives from Polynesian islands came with the Western winds to the Continent now called "America" and they are now called Native Americans. There were light bulbs being used in London before Edison came up with his type of light bulb. Wright Brothers first flight in 1903 reached 37 meters altitude and flew for 59 seconds.

    Ehhh... the helicopter. There were dozens of others that barely could get off the ground, much less maneuver. The best, workable solution was the autogyro which was basically an airplane with a rotor on top it, the driveshaft connected to the plane's radial engine, the autogyro could fly, maneuver in tight spaces but fell short of what a true helicopter could do. Credit goes to Igor Sikorsky for making the first practical helicopter as we know today.

    New Mexico didn’t invent the atomic bomb. We were just the first place on earth that was bombed with it. It was a NATIONAL project and all the talent and matériels were brought to New Mexico (Los Alamos) to build it. Then it was tested at the Trinity sight outside Alamogordo. It’s open once a year for tourists. It’s just a patch of gravel inside a fenced enclosure.

    As for the airplane the Wright brothers did their research and development in Ohio where they were from, however the assembly and test flights were in North Carolina, thats why the Carolinas get credit for the first flights. Remember they used the research by Otto Lilienthal for their aircraft and built gliders that flew in North Carolina first before installing an engine on one for flight creating the first POWERED FLIGHT in North Carolina.

You can still visit the blacksmiths shop and many other buildings dating to the early 1800’s in SW AR-it was the last stop on the Southwest Trail through the Arkansas Territory, just before crossing the Red River into Texas, part of Mexico at the time.

    Everyone seems to have different opinions on Dr. Pepper, but I remember reading that it was created using something like 23 of the flavors found at a Soda Fountain- so it would be sort of ALL flavors. This is a possible combination people have come up with- amaretto, almond, carrot, clove, cherry, caramel, blackberry, black licorice, cola, ginger, juniper, root beer, rum, raspberry, tomato, lemon, molasses, nutmeg, orange, prune, plum, pepper, and vanilla.

    Ryan, I can't remember if I've asked this yet. In regard to my visit with a group from here back in 2/00 to Cape Town, I'm wondering which part of the country you're from, if you don't mind revealing that. I still have a cordless phone, but it's as dumb as a box of rocks, and I'm happy with that. I see Gen Y and Z members at the local Y, and feel sorry for them because they can't leave their stupid phones alone, to the point that they spend more time scanning their phone than working out (some, not all). Before the advent of transistors, there was something called a vacuum tube that "filled the bill", as we used to say. It was about the size of a small container of foot powder, or a juice glass. I'm sure that the first washing was what I saw as a kid in the '50s--a round tub of sorts, with a wringer on the top, which preceded the spin cycle. I'd bet LA was also responsible for Cajun music. You ought to see if you can find a video of it for your own interest. It's like nothing you've ever heard. Aside from email, I never use social media. I've downhilled many times, though I was a lousy skier; I've also cross-country skied at the same level. However, the most snow fun I ever had was dogsledding. One slang you have that differs from our term is biltong for jerky. If the typewriter was invented in 1912, I'd bet it wasn't electric, but manual.

    For Maine I would actually go with a soda called Moxie. They hold a festival for it in Lisbon, Maine. It's similar to root beer but has a bitter taste due to the use of gentian root extract. It was originally sold as a nerve tonic medicine in the late 1800's. You either love it or hate it. There's usually no middle ground. It's really only sold in the north east US (New England). And, yes, Maine is a beautiful state, just don't go there in the winter time.

    Just to be clear, the airplane was researched, developed, and built in Dayton, Ohio by Ohioans Orville and Wilbur Wright. They chose Kitty Hawk, NC for their first flight due to its soft sand and consistent winds. Saying the airplane was invented in NC is like saying Apollo 11 was invented on the moon.

  • @mikelovin7

    @mikelovin7

    3 ай бұрын

    Almost all inventions were started in one state and completed in another, but the first one where it worked is the state that gets credit. I mean for example look at the Manhatten Project, it was researched and developed at 30 different sites in 3 countries, but the state it was detonated in gets credit for the first exploded atomic bomb. Besides, if I remember correctly, the plane didn't fly when they first took it to NC, it took a lot more research, work, and multiple attempts before it would actually fly. 👍🏻 Also the Apollo example is a bit of a stretch, the Saturn V rocket research and development that launched the Apollo capsule to the moon was done in Alabama, But everyone gives NASA in Florida the credit for the launch. So don't be too butthurt 🤣

  • @bunbun3000

    @bunbun3000

    @mikelovin7 I guess you completely missed the point of my Apollo analogy. In any event, no one gives Florida credit for inventing the Apollo program. And the airplane was invented in Ohio... there is no question on this point. NC can claim being the site of the first successful flight, and that's it. I don't live in Ohio or have any stake in this argument. I'm just always amazed some people think is even debatable.

    MS DOS was not at all the first personal computer operating system. It was a knock off of CP/M, which was already widely used in personal computers. However, it was the standard operating system installed on all IBM personal computers and later on PC clones.

    I had 3 computers (Vic20, C64, Apple IIc) before DOS came out, and NONE of them had operating systems. You had to reboot for each program you loaded. There was no "widely used" operating system before DOS. Some obscure thing might have existed, but it wasn't "widely used".

  • @willjohnson8446

    @willjohnson8446

    3 ай бұрын

    @@Tijuanabill Without an operating system, a PC would not be capable of running files. All your computers had operating systems. These were either hard-coded into your machine or on every boot disk you started your PC with. The Vic20 and C64 used KERNAL, Commodore’s ROM-resident operating system. Because Commodore hard-coded the OS in the hardware, you didn’t need it on every floppy or cassette you attempted to load. The Apple IIC likely used ProDOS 8 as the operating system loaded on boot disks. Some folks still liked Apple DOS, which took less space on the floppy, but had been officially replaced a few years before the IIC’s release. By the time of the IBM PC’s release, the business world had settled on CP/M as the operating system of choice. IBM intended to also use it. However, after an awkward business meeting with Dorothy Kildall (wife of CP/M’s creator), who refused to sign the initial NDA, IBM was convinced to allow Microsoft (who was just going to license them BASIC) to provide an OS. Microsoft found a guy (Tim Paterson) who had created his own CP/M knock off he called 86-DOS. They gave him $75.000 for the full rights to it, renamed it MS-DOS and started printing money.

    I think the internet was a great invention, the I phone or any smart phone I still think is a bad idea. Why do you have to have access to everything in the palm of your hand. A cell phone is still a goid idea though for emergencies and calling someone.

    My state always gets the short end of the stick! Mississippi is also the home of the first heart transplant, it is where Viking Stoves were invented, Coca Cola was invented here. We are home to many pro football players ..... Brett Favre, Jerry Rice, Deuce McAllister and Archie Manning whose sons are Payton and Eli Manning and the up and coming QB, Arch Manning! We are the home of the Blues and brag about stars born here .... Elvis Presley, BB King, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Buffett, Faith Hill, Charley Pride, Tammy Wynette and Sam Cooke! We are also the Catfish Capitol of the World! We produce more catfish that anywhere else and most of it is within driving distance of my house! Yes, I'm a little bit proud of my state. I was born in Louisiana, though, and they have the best food in the world!

    The Wright Brothers did fly there craft in Ohio. Along the banks of the Great Miami River in Dayton Ohio before ever going to North Carolina. How about professional Football and Baseball just be a little more accurate. Your research is not sufficient at all. Not to mention Proctor & Gamble is based in Cincinnati. I think there are a few inventions to come from there that might make the list. Research is more than Google and Wikipedia.

    @ryan_lloyd lol, sorry. What about a maraschino cherry? Have you ever had one? Like the ones you'd put on ice cream or in cocktails? That's the cherry flavor mixed with Coke. In fact, you can just mix in the liquid from the maraschino cherry bottle with Coke, and you've basically got Dr. Pepper.

    The airplane was not invented in North Carolina, it was invented in Ohio. The only reason why the first flight was in NC was because the Wright brothers needed a windy, desolate patch of soft ground in case they crash landed.

    The Airplane was invented in Ohio, the Wright Brothers were born in Dayton, Lived in Dayon, and died in Dayton, Wilbur and Orville are buried along with other family members at Woodland Cemetery in their hometown of Dayton, Ohio. They built the airplane in Dayton, modified the airplane in Dayton, repaired the airplane in Dayton, perfected the airplane in Dayton, and only took it to North Carolina to fly it (wind, look it up) and the only reason they chose that site is because it was the only post office that responded to them after they contacted about six cites, and post offices back then were basically the meteorologists "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night" I get so sick and tired of the Ohio-North Carolina argument when they are uncomparable, yes the first flight is monumental but it would have never happened in North Carolina if it wasn't invited in Ohio first, or if another Post office answered their letters, they may have chosen another city. The Airplane was invented, built, rebuilt, modified, repaired, and perfected in Ohio. The Airplane was flown first in North Carolina, and it returned to Dayton after and between every test flight period completion. It is that simple.
