🇿🇦COW HEAD SMILEY (SKOPO): Chop the raw cow head and add it to a big pot with water. Add salt, mix and let it boil for a minimum of three hours. Chop it into smaller pieces and serve with peri peri sauce, beef spice seasoning, and phuthu.

🇿🇦MAGWINYA (FAT CAKES): Roll the dough and slice it to form the shape. Place shaped dough in the fryer until golden brown. Serve with your choice of sides: acha (local mango chutney) and/or white liver.

3. ETIMBITENI CATERING (AT JHB MARKET)
INTERVIEWEES: Robert + Thato
🇿🇦OX LIVER STIR-FRY: Chop bell peppers and red onion. In a wok, add raw ox liver. Add the mix of red onion and peppers. Continue stir-frying. Add BBQ spice mix (secret blend), add Al’s chili sauce and continue mixing to stir fry. | Spinach: chop bell peppers and white onion. Drain the spinach. In a pot, add olive oil. Add pepper and white onion mix, then shredded carrots. Add special seasoning and beef stock and continue stirring. Let it cook for about three minutes, then add spinach and cream of mushroom mix and stir. Separately, add powdered cream of mushroom soup in a cup and mix with water.

As a South African, this is a very authentic take on Johannesburg street food. I am quite impressed, Sonny. Another thing worth mentioning is that these places aren't the safest. So the fact that Sonny and crew opted for this instead of the more pretentious (and aesthetically pleasing) areas is very commendable.

I got emotional watching this. I am an American that lived as a Mormon missionary in South Africa (mostly Joberg, Rustenburg and Nelspruit) for two years. I knew and have eaten everything shown. Wasn't really mentioned but you usually don't drink until after you are done eating. Makes spicy food like chakalaka even more of an experience.

@@mosimosi630 Please don’t be sensationalist especially if you haven’t been to South Africa. Many countries in Africa and abroad have had such situations but you don’t associate them with one lie. SA is a country that is full of diversity and the indigenous tribes are very welcoming. We all have Ubuntu. A few bad apples don’t represent our whole country especially since we have so many immigrants of all walks of life who not only live but thrive amongst us. I understand lies spread quickly but come to the Sunny South Africa you will see we will greet you with a warm smile.

Been watching this channel for years now and I finally get to see my own country featured ❤
Was in South Africa a couple of years back, can't say I experience the best or the worst, but I have deep respect towards people there who hustle. Friends often warned me about how unsafe the country is, however, every place has its good and bad. I love South Africa, regardless, they are hardworking people. Met a teenage boy at Cape Malay who almost resort to pull a knife at me, yet I offered to follow him to his home, received a humble welcome, enjoyed a good conversation and understand why the boy did so. Me spend the evening with an experience beyond words able to describe. If you ask me if I will ever return, it is definitely a yes. I touched very little of the surface and hope to learn more of various remarkable culture and the people. South Africa, love you with my humble little heart. Thank you, Sonny and the crew to feature this beautiful country filled with amazing people. Don't just listen to the naysayers, go forth and experience it. No place is perfect, but once we learn to understand one another, it will naturally become a peaceful place for everyone. #respect

Don't follow someone who almost pulled a knife on you to their home. In 99 out of 100 cases, it's not going to end well for you. I love South Africa and Cape Town with all my heart, but I'm also not naive to the very real dangers of living here.

As a South African who was lucky enough to spend some time in Nairobi your country is wonderful. I have friend who live there who took me to experience street food and experience life away from tourist hotspots and it was amazing!

Kenya is definitely one of my top 5 list of countries to visit, my went there before me even got a picture with Mwai Kibaki, and that was when he became a president.
Now I understand why many like South Africa. It’s literally one of the best African countries the locals friendly humble and interesting

Out of all the episodes I have watched on this show, I love the marriage of humour between Sonny & Lebo.
Knowing and understanding who food tastes and who it’s cooked,where the food comes from,is a great learning experience to have.you learn about what makes the food tastes great, and what ingredients that makes the great.
Lebo did the things here with Suny! It has brought me so much joy watching this. That joke about why we don’t like medium cooked meat sent me! Can’t believe I’m five months late though. I’ve missed this show! ❤🇿🇦
This is the first time I watch sonny being super casual with a female guest because of the humor .. She is wholesome
South African with Asian descent here. Very impressed with and proud of Sonny on this one. The braai is the go-to meal when my friends come together and really unites people from the many different backgrounds in South Africa. Also want to add that filming in those parts of Johannesburg is very brave of Sonny and the crew but it shows a very nice, authentic look on the street culture that is more than just crime and more crime that most people know of.
