I’ve been making sourdough bread for 15 years. There was nothing as clear as your presentation available to amateurs for the first ten of those years. Your process is clear and fully developed. It works. I had to discover much of what you present here by personal trial and much failure.

I’m just starting my starter, and I’m wondering, I’m going to be making a lot of sourdough bread, do I need a breadmaker ? I don’t have a mixer nor have I ever made or used any of these; do you think a breadmaker helps with kneading ? Or use a mixer ? Thanks ! ; )

If you use this method, no bread maker is necessary. Just your hands for a little bit. You only stretch & fold a few times. @@blessisrael6455

What a gentle and sweet demonstration by a darling of a person. Well, something has to be said that is rarely spoken about. The MESS. Everything that this dough touches at any point of the process is going to be to have to be washed, to be included...the bowls..the scraper..the counter or bread board, any spoon, spatula, fork and your hands Each and everytime you touch this dough. I'm guessing, I've emptied our hot water 50 gallon heater trying to wash the dough residue, wet or dried crust off the whole lot. If you let this stuff dry on any of it, it will have to be scraped off with a tool of somekind, including your hands. Just because you use your scraper to scrape up the counter doesn't mean it's clean. This stuff leaves a residue that has to be washed up with a spray and hot water. Then you have to rinse out the rag (religiously). Furthermore, when you rinse off gluey dough off the scraper, bowl etc into the sink, it will fall into the sink bowl. If it stays in the sink while your clean bowl and scraper are drying and your bread is baking....and it dries..You will have to soak it hot water and use a scraper to chip it off the sink bowl. There is no way this gloppy stuff is good for your drains. I'm sure I could use it for sheet rock mud. Today in the food ads the sour dough bread is $2.99. It's not hard to see what I'm getting at. Sure the crust is clearly home made. I ordered some supposedly 150 year old sour dough starter, baby sat it to fruition, nice and bubbly, followed all the directions, baked it and tasted it. Nice crust, good bread, not especially sour, and in theend $2.99 sounds more than fair. In fact..$10.99 might be fair concerning the clean up and empty hot water heater.

Wow! Try this. Load all your items into the sticky or dried out dough bowl and let it soak. All the dough particles will go to the bottom of the bowl. Cold water works better than hot for this. Once the water is less cloudy use your hand to scrape off anything still covered with dough. Let it sit until the dough is at the bottom of the bowl and drain carefully until you get to the bottom. Put a couple of paper towels flat in your trash can and pour the muck on top. DO NOT PUT THIS STUFF DOWN THE DRAIN!!! Wash everything in hot soapy water. You should not have any residue left on the items. Spray your counter with an alcohol water mixture of 4parts water to one part alcohol. Done!

UPDATED REVIEW AFTER BAKING THE BREAD many thanks again for such precise instructions I made the bread yesterday throughout the morning and put it in the fridge until early today when it was baked It was difficult to wait to cut it but I managed 1,5 hrs of cooling time ( probably needed a tiny longer to be fully cooled inside) It was beyond delicious and worth the time it took. I followed the video and the written recipe alongside. The brad had beautiful even air pockets and when biting into it felt bubbly almost like a crumpet. Again very worth the time. Now that I have done it once it will feel easily to do the steps without so much double checking Hi! A million thanks! I did two with another recipe from a gut healing book and although it was fine the results I felt I needed more specific instructions, your was just what I needed Often things like baking are being seem as an art yet with enough practice and guidance I believe we can all learn new things Again a million thanks ❤❤❤
