Soundtracs JADE (Part 2) - Putting in the channel strips

Музыка

It's time to put the channel strips in to the frame and finally get to see what the console looks like tin our studio. Lots of ribbon cables and connectors, and fortunately everything is marked and laid out very clear.
This is the second video from our serie about setting up and fixing a SoundTracs JADE 32 analog mixing console.

What a great console to grow up with. It has been my dream for 30 years, and finally it's here - so looking forward to the process of fixing it back in great condition, and will film every step of it!❤

Fantastic video and series Moneeo. I have a Soundtracs Solitaire and would love to have a Jade sometime in the future. Do the busses work the same with the Jade as they do with the Solitaire I wonder. You use a jumper on the I/O channel to select the Bus for that channel? and you can also use a separate jumper to select +4dbu or -10dbu. One thing I remember is there are 2 batteries on separate logic boards and they are prone to leaking. It's always a good idea to replace them, as when they leak the acid will destroy the logic boards. The batteries are soldered in place. Good preventative maintenance would be to replace them when you have the chance. An upgraded PSU can make a huge difference also. Bluedog power supplies from Tim Jones in the UK can be a good alternative for an upgraded PSU. Good luck and can't wait for the next episode. Thanks very much for a great video and success with the build

Thanks for following our Jade adventure!❤ Solitaire seems like a great console that share a lot with Jade. Yes there seems to be jumpers where you can switch between +4dbu or -10dbu. You select with a switch which bus you wants to send each i/o channel. Yepp, the battery situation are high up on the todo-list before it's to late.👍 Would love to upgrade with a blue dog in the future, i have already got in touch with Jim about it. - Thanks for your supporting words, that helps us keep the motivation for future videos.❤

@@moneeo Yeah the busses are selected on the outside for routing your outputs. I think ( not 100% sure for the Jade ) there are no direct outputs, the outputs are routed through the busses and there are only 24 busses, so only 24 outputs but during mixdown you can also use the busses internally for setting up parallel effects. Using the group button on that particular I/O channel will turn the small fader into the buss control. Normally ( I think ) you set the first 24 busses to the first 24 channels. Then during mixdown you can use the first 24 small faders to route the busses to. For example, in mix you can assign all the drums to buss 1&2, select 'group' on the I/O for those monitor channels then all the drums will come through the small fader / monitor on ch33&34 right above 1&2. Using the patchbay you can patch from the group on ch 1 & ch2 to a compressor then return from the comp to mon In 1 & 2 on the patchbay and use the small fader to add to taste, control the level of parallel effects coming into the mix. Or any other method of parallel effects. The patchbay is awesome you can patch almost the whole board. Hope this helps you out

@@Joey-rp5vg Yeah the small faders are able to use as 24 extra inputs when in mixdown mode, which makes it a total of 72 hc at mixdown.👍 Your right, the patchbay is truly flexible and was actually one of the reason we got the console.

Congratulations! Very curious to know how it will sound. Good luck with setting it up. I have a Soundtracs Megas 32 myself and still discovering it in a hybrid setup. The moving of these ancient beasts is something else 😅 but it's the price we pay to live out a childhood dream right?

The ribbon cables to each channels is soft and smooth, and in really good condition that feels safe to handle. The ribbon cables at the master module and the patchbay on the other hand has aluminium foil and feels a lot more fragile. Hopefully there are in the same good condition, and that the fragile part is only my feeling 😅 Wish me good luck - i have got lots of inspiration from your projects and are actually looking forward dive down in to the electronics pretty soon.🙏❤
