    Interesting to note Bose has raised their prices on the Pro16, the Pro32, and the Sub1&Sub2. Pro8 has remained $1,200 the exact price of the JBL MK2. EV30 is $100 more at $1,300. Very competitive field!

    Very informative video. Bought the Harbinger MLS1000 from Guitar Center recently and like it for my home listening environment. That said, I keep watching your videos on the MK2 and wonder if I’m missing out on better build and sound quality from the MK2. It’s really difficult to test these speakers in the store with other customers demoing other equipment or the store’s music playing constantly. Have you had a chance to compare the two? Thank you in advance.

    No, I haven't compared them but I follow the old saying, You get what you pay for. These inexpensive speakers that have similar specs might sound good for a year or two, but the price difference is because they use cheap parts that won't last. Why do you think JBL is now giving a 7 year warranty? Get the MK2, its the best battery solution out there! Plus JBL is doing firmware updates on a regular basis making it an even better speaker!

    In summary forget to stress the important fact that along with the 180 degree throw the Bose Pro8 has considerably less stage volume which is huge for live musicians. Also Bose technology has the reputation for the best feedback rejection.

    Hi there, great review :) I'm looking at purchasing either the Evolve 30 or JBL Eon One MK2 to use as either a ceremony/cocktail hour speaker but also as maybe a 'rear fill' speaker in larger venues to make sure the speeches are heard nice and clear at the back of the room. I know that the Evolve 30M has a facility within the DSP to set a delay to help with this but not sure if the JBL has a similar feature, did you find anything like this within the DSP menu on the JBL speaker? Thanks DJ Gaz

    Comparing EV30 vs Bose Pro8: It comes down to how much you like the Bose sound out of the box and its 180 deg. dispersion, which the 30m can't match (120 deg.). I say out of the box because the built-in Pro mixers are basic, without mid EQ (just bass and treble) and not even a master volume. The built-in mixer of the 30m is massively superior, and the PA itself has many more inputs. I'm a solo guy too but it's always nice to have more options. I like both products and have an L1M2 as well. But the 30m vastly simplifies setup and sounds amazing, especially once you learn your way around the app.

    Loudness doesn’t mean all that much if you are introducing distortion. I was disappointed with the 30M and returned it. It certainly does have better bass response than the L1 Pro8. But in terms of vocals and clarity which is extremely important the Bose blew the 30M away.

    Bill, I really like your videos. For Ceremonies, I live in an area with a lot of beaches, wineries, etc where a battery-powered speaker is ideal. What are your thoughts of the JBL Eon One MK2 vs the LD Maui 5 Go?

  • @WWeiss-nv5vz

    @WWeiss-nv5vz

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your feedback. The MK2 is in another league. There are only two factors that I would even consider the Maui- Price, which is only $200 cheaper and weight. The Maui base unit is so manageable at 20 pounds and much smaller. For ceremonies many DJs have gone with the Maui because it is so handy. Besides weight/size, the MK2 is the best battery option on the market! Sound wise: Maui is old tech with no App. Maui bass is one note/muddy compared to the JBL. High end of Maui is the weakest point where even the Bose S1Pro has a much cleaner high end. JBL probably louder but not by much. JBL has an excellent 8 band EQ/Maui 2 band. JBL sound is very Hifi sounding/full range in comparison, JBL more mixer inputs, JBL 7 year warranty, Maui 1-3 years, not sure. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iItnqpuEocLbgaw.html Make sure to see this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/m5ajltaeg5qeeaQ.html

    @@WWeiss-nv5vz I agree completely. I had two Maui 5 Gos. A week ago, traded them in on a JBL EON One MK2. I liked the Mauis for wedding ceremonies, but didn't like the lack of gain in the internal mixer (I generally use an external mixer like the Behringer Flow 8 anyways, but it's really not an option to run a dynamic mic into the Maui and expect to get it loud enough.). Also didn't like that the Maui was 'tipsy'. The base is so light that it was very easy to tip over. I have not had the JBL on a gig yet, but the sound and quality build are worlds better than the Maui. The only things I dislike are no compressors on mic channels and that you can't adjust the main out EQ from the app (only from the speaker panel screen).

    Enjoyed the videos on Eon mk2. Considering both traditional 2-speaker array (Yamaha Stagepas) and a column array setup. Have heard that for outdoor venue, column arrays don’t project sound as far as 2-speaker setups. What is your view and recommendation?

  • @WWeiss-nv5vz

    @WWeiss-nv5vz

    2 жыл бұрын

    Glad you enjoyed the videos. The traditional 2 speaker set up focuses the sound in a tight beam. So for DJ purposes 2 speakers focused on the dance floor will be louder. Column arrays spread their sound evenly so a larger audience to the left and right can hear the same volumes. Bose technology like their larger Pro32 claim to have a longer throw than your typical 2 speakers on a pole set up.

So I heard the mackie go 8 it sounded great. I will be getting a pair of those for sure. I will also be getting the pro32 and sub two I already have the T4 mixer which is good. For all four pieces it will be a big investment, 6000 dollars but seven weddings will pay for it. The sound was great on the pro 32 so I think I will be going that route. I still use my QSC-K12 and QSC-k10's and my two KW181's for different events, but I will use the Pro 32 and bass2 along with the mackie go 8 (ceremony) for all of my weddings. Make sure you try running the Bose with your QSC K10, they make a great combination, with the QSC adding that crystal clear high end Bose is lacking. The EV will sound louder because at max volume the highs stay crystal clear without any distortion and the bass is better. EV is very PA sounding, similar to the QSC sound. The JBL has those smooth Hifi mids which won't sound as loud even though the dB meter reads the same for both. Personal preference.

    Great user input: Have briefly heard the JBL and the Mackie Thump Go. Mackie is ok for the money and being a cheaper option, but no reverb if that's important and it's not the best sounding. JBL is overpriced and not in the running. JBL would beat Mackie if it was priced in the $400 range like Mackie. Bose S1Pro sounds better than JBL and Mackie, IMO. Have used my friend's pair of S1Pros for several gigs - wedding ceremonies and one small wedding reception. For the ceremonies, we were running them flat out, no headroom, they're just not loud enough. For example, at one event, the pair of S1Pros had issues getting loud enough so that the wedding party could hear to start the march from the barn to the reception area. For the reception, we had a powered Mackie sub, the Bose's had everything over 100Hz. Bose did better without having to deal with bass, but again, were flat out. Buddy uses the S1Pros in small churches for his gospel quartet. He's a Bose fan, also has Sub1s and Sub2s, and some Bose columns as well. I bought a used pair of Yamaha DBR10's which solved the headroom issue, never used the S1Pros again for events. Power the DBRs off of a small 300w+ battery pack, no issues. Now have a pair of JBL EON One MK2 columns as well as my new go-to for ceremony use. I bought an Everse 8, tested head-to-head with my DBR10s, EON One MK2, buddy's S1Pro, and just for giggles, my RCF J8 column. Everse 8 was much louder/had much more headroom than the Bose. Sounded a lot better after EQ tweaking as well. Buddy agreed, he wants to sell the S1Pros to get a pair of Everses. Again...the Bose addict wants the Everses over his S1Pros. For me, the Everse was great, but not $750 worth of great. For less money, I have the DBR10, battery pack, and Behringer Flow8 mixer...much more capability for cheaper price...the only con is it's obviously not all in one speaker box. I ended up sending the Everse back, great speaker, but didn't do anything that I already had covered for cheaper. I feel Everse is overpriced. If it was close to $500? Yeah, I would have kept it and possibly bought another one. I think Everse sounded a bit better than the DBR10, but again my DBR was way less than half the price used. DBR has way more volume and headroom. Everse in no way gets close to published SPL specs. EON One MK2 column sounded better and was louder than Everse...but is $1200. RCF J8 blows them all out of the water, as you would expect. FYI, the Everse8 also has the stereo BT music linking option. Also has onboard delay if you need to set them up as the delay speakers you mentioned. Bottom line: JBL EON One MK2 is the best single-unit battery powered speaker IMO. Everse 8 is easily the best small 'lunchbox-sized' battery powered PA speaker.

    This has been such a TOUGH decision. I wish I had a place to compare them that isn’t so far away. I want to start busking and also be able to do small venues. Portability and sound are my top priorities, along with being able to play with my daughter (ukulele, vocals and me on guitar and vocals) so I guess I’d need 4 channels. My concerns with each unit are: 1)Jbl eon one mk2- heard the app is trash. 2) EV 30m - not as wide dispersion 3) Bose L1 pro 8- only 3 channels for Pete’s sake and heard it doesn’t get very loud. For reference, I used an EV zlx 12p (which has 90 degree horizontal dispersion and I made it work) and a Yamaha 4 channel mixer. The EV zlx is rated for 126db. I’m stuck on a Bose s1 pro/plus, ev everse 8 for practice/ busking for my daughter and a line array for small gigs/ outdoor small concert. The PRX One sounds much better in every way from bass response to top end clarity. The music is very filling. I know how two EON MK2s sound, and one PRX One beats two EON MK2 in terms of sound and quality. That's not to say that the EON MK2 is bad, it's just the the PRX One is that much more powerful. They are two separate units designed with different use cases and a large area of overlap.

    Love the build of the EV 30M, but t that’s where the love ends. The Bose L1 Pro 8 beat it hands down. The Bose was far clearer. The EV 30M sounded muddy by comparison.No amount of eq could correct it’s short comings. Owned both. I’m referring to my experience. We also did a shoot out in the store and everyone agreed the Bose was clearer.

    Bose has an voice limiter for some reason always cuts the volume when performing live ! But a great sound 👍. If you can deal with it ? This problem never gets talked about! 😞

    I am glad someone mentioned the issue if the voice limiter. Bought a Bose L1 Pro8 6 months ago and I am now well Ng for that very reason. I found nothing online about it.

    There's no way you should be making a decision on sound quality based on a youtube video of mic'd speakers. There are several reasons why that would be nuts.

    I agree with you 100%, but I'm sure you know the situation we have been in for the last 2 years with the pandemic. First of all many of these speakers have been out of stock for months. If you do find something in a store you would be very lucky to find all the speakers I compare next to each other in the same store. Many people don't even go to music stores anymore and buy online for the best price. In this situation the "second best" to a live demo is to find a reviewer who has similar tastes as your own and someone you trust.

    EV much brighter. Drums are more crisp and naturally deeper. Actually, I can hear the difference in most, OK well all comparisons. Thanks for doing it live.

    Love it! Still the best battery battery PA available. Its sound tends to be a little mids heavy so I line out to an EV Evers8 which is cleaner on the high end. Incredible all battery rig!

    @@brex14 I have a PB110 which has great bass and very good sound at medium volume. Either of these speakers are in another league. In comparison these speakers are like listening to a live band in your living room. At max volume they stay crystal clear where the Parytbox speakers will get harsh and distorted. I play live electronic music. I would never use the Partbox for that application. Really depends on what volume/headroom you need? If you don't need battery the EV30m is the better speaker. Partybox 310 will probably have better bass than the MK2.

    @@WWeiss-nv5vz I really want to get a battery-powered speaker so that I can play without AC anywhere I go. I'm looking at JBL Pro, and I think they only have two battery-powered speakers available, the compact and the Mk2. I will definitely go for MK2 in that choices because the compact will not be enough for sure. I'm just not sure whether I'm going to make a good purchase decision since a dem of MK2 myself is not possible in here and I will have to order it online if I want to purchase it, then I will hear it myself when it's arrived. I think the MK2 is not make for electronic music/ EDM, I think its more on acoustic only? What do you think? Maybe the eq will help me get the sound I like.

    @@brex14 NO battery speaker is made for electronic music/EDM! You won't get much more than 102dB in a real world situation, especially outside. If you need max volume look at the Soundboks3 but I heard it doesn't have much bass. Hands down the JBL MK2 is the best sounding full range battery speaker on the market. Just don't expect much over 100dB before clipping red. Also look at the new EV Everse 8, but the bass will be better with the MK2. Add a subwoofer run on external battery power paired with the Everse and you would have a portable EDM rig! If you need louder than the Everse, QSC CP8 over Bose Sub1 is my favorite AC only portable rig.

    With JBL & Bose Hifi sound you should not need to push the speaker very loud, because the speaker throws wide and far enough. If you need to push the speaker to "feel the punch, physical low end & fast transient"... then neither the Bose Pro8 or JBL MK2 will do. At that point lining out to a small sub like the Bose Sub1 or EV EXL200 12-SP will be the best of both worlds!

    I tried a pair of Eon One Mk2 with a SRX118SP. I ran them separate in stereo and mono with the 18 taking everything below 80hz. I actually preferred without the sub. It definitely gets louder but it’s quite balanced with the built in sub. If you have a Bose mixer try changing the Tonematch to High Volume music and it’s impressive how much bass comes out of the MK2 even on battery.
