I remember every sista, including me, having boxes of this relaxer in our linen closets, under the sink, etc. Thanks for the throwback.

I enjoy watching these "back in the good old days" commercials. I've noticed that their hair was more fuller and extremely healthier than todays black hair. Black females actually took care of their back then. What the hell happened!!!

I love it!! Especially the Michael Jordan commercial! I love seeing old ads -- the hairstyles, the fashions and makeup, especially in the early to mid 80s. Classic! ~~

Omg... I remember being about 10 yrs old watching Soul Train on Saturday morning and seeing the commercial with Michael Jordan on it. I begged my mom for a relaxer and she said “NO!” I continued to get my hair pressed every 2 was until I was 18.

I'm pretty sure a commercial talking about Black women "needing" a relaxer wouldn't go over to well nowadays. I was a teen back then, and believed all the stuff those models were paid to say about our hair.

These are the type of commercials I seen on television growing up. Seeing faces that I could unmistakably identify with. We come in all shades, its a shame you don't get to see all the beautiful brown shades from all of us. You would never see a Pro athlete in real life or the big screen where its just pretend with a black woman. No matter the skin color

I remember those commercials like it was yesterday. The young lady with Michael Jordan, she had won the gentle treatment model search contest that year. Model Wanakee was in the first ad with her beautiful hair and Laura Carrington was in the next one.

Any cosmetics commercials from about, 1983 where as the screen gets ready to fade to black, the woman sang "ohhhhh, you're so sweet"? Was that Anita Baker's singing voice? Back then, I was a bratty kid.

Uh-nuh! That is not true. Didn't you see the warning descriptions on every commercial? Every relaxer commercial of other brands says that. You should have pay close attention to it. Relaxers will damage your hair if you use it INCORRECTLY. That's why each commercial shows a warning to prevent that from happening.

This commercial was sending a horrible self hating message. Basically black women are only attractive and get a man is if we chemically straighten our hair. What billshit but that was the mindset at the time and still is for some. Thank god alot of black people have woken up. I get so much attention from black men for wearing my natural hair.

@@micai.j8920 Yea but white people did it for a style. Most black people didn't do this for just a style, we did this because we thought it looked better than our tightly curled hair. Also there was no such thing as black supremacy where black people told white people they were ugly and they should tried to looked black. White people did it to us though; so it is a different experience. That's like saying black people lighting our skin is not that sad because white people try to darken their skin. But most people never forced on white people to do that, but people forced on black people that lighter was better.
