Sophie's Gift / Gift of Sofiyivka is one of the modern grandchildren of Nikita's Gift, it makes a lot of large orange fruit, and is a masterpiece of a persimmon from the orchard of Ukranian persimmon breeder Vasil Derevyanko. Meet this cultivar not yet available in the US.
I realize that "Sophie's Gift" is a poor translation of the original name, Dar Sofiyivky, however in keeping with the tradition of mangling translations, as happened with Nikitskaya Bordovaya (Nikita Burgundy), which became "Nikita's Gift" I offer you this similarly easy-to-remember English mis-translation.

Did you ever figure out whether or not Sophie’s gift will be available for scion wood or actually buying grafted trees?
And after the year, did you finally try Sophie's Gift? How does it compare to the other persimmons, especially Nikita's Gift?
For being as old as it is, still not many are selling it, I wonder why?

I'm excited to grow this one. Is the cut fruit at 2:44 ripe to the point of having lost astringency? It looks still quite firm and opaque in the flesh, like when a PCNA kaki would be commonly eaten, but an astringent variety would still be completely unpalatable.
Where did you get the scion wood for this? I am in Canada and looking for new cultivars to graft onto my rootstocks in my yard.
Does anyone know if the scionwood will be available anywhere for 2024 shipping?

I recommend Cliff England at KyNuttrees. www.nuttrees.net -- he has everything. Also Buzz Ferver at Perfect Circle Farm in VT has a collection of stuff grafted to cold-hardy rootstock

I'm still researching the technicalities in providing scionwood of this one. I want to do it right, benefit for the creator. I don't know if they're open-source or not quite yet

@@abyssquick As of 2020 it got patent in Ukraine. I don’t know if that oatent is valid overseas too or only in Ukraine.

Sofievka is park, not a person. Proper translation should be Gift from Sof ievka ot Sofievka's Gift. .
