Mark, love your channel, very informative. I run a channel myself, recently bought the ZV-E10 and am disappointed with the stabilisation for so called vlogging camera. Do you think I should just buy a gimble for the ZVE10 or sell it and get the ZV-E1? And if so, what simple run and gun gimble would you buy? Thanks buddy.

That’s supremely disappointing to hear. I own both Canon & Sony mirrorless and found that Canon IBIS destroys Sony. Was really hoping that this would be a turning point for Sony in that area. The the new “dynamic stabilization” would be next level.

I would use catalyst browse (I mean I DO use Catalyst browse) or a gimbal. Gimbals are always the best idea when you want smooth footage. Of course if budget is no option - the ZV-E1 and it’s comp of catalyst, dynamic or a gimbal would have you covered for everything

I appreciate your real world feedback of the zv-e10. The rolling shutter really had me on the fence. There was a used one here with a feiyu g6 gimbal, grip, and kit lens all for about $600. I’m like … grrr….nah. Couldn’t be bothered with catalyst browse or put the gimbal stuff together all just for a few shots here and there. I’d say go for the e1. Zv1 has good stabilization. I have that and with the Ulanzi wide lens and active stab is good. Plus I can attach an ND too. I want to start experimenting with color grading so 10-bit is a selling point for me. Cheers man.

Wondering why, with all the bells and whistles, other resolution options aren’t available like it is on the Canon r5 and r5 c. Specifically “true” 4K mode. 4096 x 2160, or 2048 x 1080. Getting that little extra width is pretty cool.

Hey Mark! Just found your channel today, definitely my go to for camera videos now :D Just wondering your thoughts I currently record on an iPhone 12 Pro for You Tube. I want to upgrade to a camera though. I'll pretty much just be using it for talking head videos! Occasionally maybe some Instagram Reels content. Do think it's worth the extra £750 Investment? yes, the colors are better straight from the zv-e1. I think the zv-e1 has the best straight out of camera colors from any camera

he A7C is a better hybrid, yes. the A7iv is the best hybrid Sony offers and is a similar price to the zv-e1

Do you even sleep anymore? So many great videos lately! A7C seems like a great small camera and probably the better choice if photography and travel outdoors high on your list. Still pricey though, even used. Perhaps a sale on Amazon Prime days! As for stab, do both allow catalyst browse? Loved the ‘Don King’ mic cover reference.

Could you compare lumix s5ii vs zv-e1? Price and features are tempting on lumix but lens and features as well for sony

The E1 is good and all, but I need a beast workhorse than can record (effectively) forever without overheating. A7C it is, until we get the coveted A7Cii

Unless you can get the A7C super cheap…. I’m considering the ZV-E1 but I have a feeling when it gets warm where I live it won’t be great with 4K60. The cheap plastic build also is a concern. I have the ZV-1 and it won’t make me cry if I break it at it’s price.

Better 1080 sounds cool and as a digital creator I always found 4k to be way overrated. Until I recorded in 4k. I don’t plan on every going back. Not because there’s such a huge difference in resolution (no sorry I’ve seen some awful 4k). But because when you crop in POST, you’re still getting a crisp image. At least that’s my experience on iPhone. All this time and I had never thought about that. All this time I was zooming in on 1080 footage. Yeah not a good look. So for my content, I plan on sticking to 4k 30. Even if I’m not exporting in 4k. Just gives you more to work with. Just like taking a 32mp photo vs 12. Why did no one tell me about this!!

I experienced the same issue like you! I cropped videos a lot and the first time I went 4K, I was surprised by how sharp the cropped video was. I'm never doing 1080p again! haha

I don't think they'll release a new zv-e10 for a couple of years. Obviously that's a guess. but the camera only came out 19 months ago and Sony usually takes about 4 years

I’m sure Mark will have more in depth answers, but I can’t see justifying paying $2200 vs $700 for the ZV-E1. For your usage,and most people to be honest, the ZV-E10 is more than enough.

Thanks for this Mark. Not having an EVF is a hard one for me to get over. I just shot some architecture videos here in Chicago and it was super bright out. My A7iii and A6600 have an EVF and that was so helpful to me. Though having 4k at 60p would be very nice 🙂 Thank you for your videos!

Does recording this video with two cameras take up a significant amount of extra time on your video or is it actually pretty simple

Mark ist the best! Comprehensive cool review. Hey Mark, I wanted to get a ZVE1. the only thing bugging me is that NOT-mechanical Shutter, which may not be helpful in flickering lights. I have tried shooting in flickering lights with a6300: that Sucks!! because you are bound to 1 shutter-speed 50pfs here in Europe. maybe 100 would also work at time, but not perfectly. Anything above or below that, forget it-no usable. Do you mean that with ZVE1, we cannot even choose that only single shutter speed, at which the banding disappears? This in my eyes, is a huge problem while donig some serious work, like short-films... where picture quality and cinematography matters a lot. Anything possible work-arounds? Thanks!

The zv-e1 has variable shutter so you should be able to dial in the shutter speed to avoid banding in most situations

Between these two i would go for the zv-e1. I'm still baffled they did basically nothing to make it run cooler. The plastic body is a heat trap.

Not sure if you've heard, but, Sonyrumors has verified that there will be an A7Cii coming out this year. There will also be a "high end" APS-C Sony camera coming out, too. No details, yet. To be honest, I am starting to shift between the ZV-E1 and the Panasonic S5iix. It's a tough choice. The ZV-E1 has the 12mp sensor and low rolling shutter and low light performance. But, the S5iix has the ability to record raw internally, and record to an SSD. (I still have two 512GB Samsung T5 SSDs from my BMPCC4K days.) It's a tough choice.

It is a tough choice - but the S5ii I’ve been using has made me want to stick with Sony. You have to really dial in the autofocus settings for each situation to get it to work well, and even then the autofocus loses me sometimes. With tracking it will switch subjects sometimes or go to the background. It’s still a great camera, but for pro work I wouldn’t rely on the autofocus - I would still do manual. For lower stakes things like KZread it’ll do the job. It matters less and you can just reshoot. Plus I like the Sony lens selection a lot better. The S5iiX though will give you all those pro features like 2 card slots, fan, great ibis after 24mm (it’s a bit wobbly at wide angels) and raw recording. For pro videography, I would do the S5iix with manual focus instead of the zv-e1. But I would take the a7iv over both - because I am too lazy to manual focus

it’s hard to make the Panasonic videos. People get really, really angry if you say anything besides “it’s perfect”. And since my channel features a lot of Sony stuff, I get extra anger and have people actually creating accounts for thumbs down or going on Reddit groups to try and give me 30 thumbs down the instant a video is published. I go back and forth about making it, but trying to make videos about Panasonic has not been fun

Seems like the only advantage to the Zve1 vs the FX30 is the larger sensor. Change my mind. ...for professional use.

Spring 2024, I'll buy a ZV-e1 unless I find a used A7C with a lens for under $1200. Until then I'll keep rocking my Canon m50 with adapter and Sony Nexus 5r😃😃

I’m not saying you’ll do this but while you’re on a roll, I’d like to see a video (so I don’t have to watch every video and then rank them myself) where you do a side by side with a lot of these cameras features, and each line item, say who wins in the feature. So let’s say A7C, zve1, fx30, a7iv, a7siii, maybe fx3. Not to give one total final winner. But to paint the picture of who does best and what feature. This way if we see enough points that pertain to our situation landing on a certain camera, we know that’s the one. Cuz when I watch this for example I’m like oh hey true A7C is better at blahblagblah. But then it makes me forget, and want to go watch your other video to see how that compares between the a7iv and zve1 on that video. I mean hey, it’s not bad to be jumping around between your videos again. But I wonder if I am thinking this, other people could find it helpful as well. Might be kinda epic.

Maybe they’ve found vloggers were paying for A7iv but really not using the photo features. We will see. Also I’m not the video creator! But yes he is great I’ve been watching him since the A7C was $1,500 in December and I didn’t realize it was a temporary price lol but I’m glad I didn’t cuz that camera is not the best fit for my needs. Currently torn between A7iv and zve1. We will have to wait until people have bought the camera and given their feedback.

I already own the A7C and ordered the ZVE1, so at this point I'm just watching for the puns.

Mark, I really liked Your channel, It was really great with a lot of honesty. I’ve stoped watching other KZreadrs eg. Jason Vong, Potato Jet, Mati Hapoja and others because their chanels became advertisment platform, uploading very often videos with rubbish topics. I really loved Yours videos because they were sincere, funny to watch and I could trust You and Yours opinion. Currently You’ve joined them and You are trying to achive higher numbers I am losing trust in things You are saying. You’ve started to post videos with No real tests and comparisons, only talking about things based on camera specs and advertisement when a company sends You something to advertise.

I think you haven’t been watching the channel long enough. I’ve always done these spec comparisons - my first ever video was a spec comparison. I’ve always done gear reviews. My whole channel is really based on them, as I started to get more videos, I have managed to get my hands on a lot of cameras, and I do a ton of tests on them in an effort to help and do videos I enjoy. I also do menu guides, tutorials, lens, accessories testing. I can’t help if you perceive something dishonest - I don’t work for any company - people have sent me gear to review for the channel since about my first 2 months on the platform. I buy tons of gear, and I am sent tons of gear (most of which are loans, in case you don’t know). I point out pros and cons of everything. I get excited about gear sometimes because I love it. Why would I have started a channel otherwise? there tons of cameras and lenses and accessories available - what would I have to gain by telling people anything other than the truth? I spend a huge amount of time trying to provide unbiased video. I also buy the cameras and lenses out of my my own money. I don’t appreciate being called dishonest - it’s not cool.

I really love the pros/cons breakdowns of these comparisons! It really puts things into perspective, from a user's point of view. I do really wish someone (Mark or otherwise) would have this type of comparison/discussion when buying lenses if you have an APS-C camera and want the potential of moving to full frame in the future. For example, if I buy the ZV-E10 body only , what's a good wide angle lens that wouldn't limit me from buying a full frame later on?

I think the premise of this question is flawed.. if you buy an APSC lens.. no matter which one.. you will essentially limit yourself when switching to a full frame body.. you would have to run that body in APSC crop mode to use it correctly which would be technically “limiting” your camera body.. more so in the photography portion because it will reduce your megapixels.. in video you wouldn’t notice it as much because it’s still gonna put out up to 4k.

But… it wouldn’t completely “limit” you because Sony’s mount works for both.. so as long as the full frame body you get has the APSC crop mode.. it can use the lens just fine.

Thanks for the insight, and you are right I could have phrased the question better. In reality if I start with an APS-C with the anticipation of adding a Full Frame later, are Full Frame lenses the default choice as I build out my collection? I dug through Mark's Archive and found this which kind of addresses what I'm thinking. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oHeX2rihppyncbQ.html I'm I have a bunch of older Canon APS-C / EF-S lenses that feel so left behind and I don't want to be in the same situation if I switch to the Sony Ecosystem.

it is sharper yes - if you zoom in you can see it. But sharpness isn't necessarily better. $100K Arri Alexa's won't produce as sharp of an image as the A7C - but it will produce a much better image.

I would wait for A7C II which will have an upgraded sensor (33 mp) and will be cheaper than ZV-E1. A7C II will have EVF which ZV-E1 does not. ZV-E1 is overpriced. I think it should be around $1500.

@@KarlSainte Sony A7C II should be coming out in the next few months and should be either $1800 or $2000. I agree no vlogger would spend $2200 for a video camera. If I'm a vlogger, I would buy ZV-E10 or FX-30 before buying ZV-E1.

I’ve used them both - a lot. The A7C is a great camera but is more than twice as expensive. And the full frame lenses are more expensive. You should use some more cameras before having such strong opinions. I’ve actually compared them side by side in another video. Be less negative when you comment - saying things like you did doesn’t spur on good conversation
