    Yeah that's great because I had heard about this new model a week or two ago I don't know where, and how it was such a bang for the buck, but I thought that Sony probably had better options out there. Since I'm not a professional but I really appreciate photography as an activity on my trips and other important moments, I want the best product at the lowest cost, especially since in photo, you get drowned with additional purchases like lenses, batteries, and other stuff. So it's important to know the other options out there!

    You can tell this review is being done by someone who REALLY knows what they're talking about and has plenty of experience with the entire product category and all the competition in the segment. That's an issue I've always had with LMG in certain product categories, like laptops. They only care about high end 13" thin and lights and compare everything to that. Some of us actually prefer bigger screen laptops with a bit more power and battery life. Brandon also knows his shit when it comes to cameras but I feel like he lacks the confidence to really tell people what's good for them. He mostly just sticks to the facts.

  • @UnderageBeerHere

    @UnderageBeerHere

    Жыл бұрын

    @@leonardw5487 The issue is the cool down time. Even if you go for 24fps, you're still only getting 1 legitimate record session in, because like David said, after he stopped recording, let it sit for a minute, then tried filming again, the record time was almost non-existent for the 2nd recording session. That's a huge risk to take buying this camera and hoping that you don't need to do 2 extended recordings in somewhat quick succession. That makes it basically unusable at any "event" where things are happening constantly.

    Yeah, I was thinking this was a clear winner, but when I saw the price, there are a lot of competitive options. Better in some ways, worse than others. A weakness for the Sony is a lack of good, affordable compact lenses with fast aperatures compared to some other systems. Nikon Z doesn't have the best cameras, but lenses like the little 40mm 1.8 full frame prime sure make it appealing if you haven't bought into another system.

    That was a great video. ZV-E1 looks very tempting... but one point that needs to be mentioned is that once you add a decent full frame lens onto it, the size + weight has just gone way up. Camera newbies need to be aware of that before they jump into the expensive (and heavy) world of full frame.

    14:54 little correction here: yes in theory not having a mechanical shutter does degrade image quality a bit. However, this sensor reads out so quickly that i never had any problems with rolling shutter, and the theoretical loss in dynamic range is also absolutely not noticeable. I mainly use my a7sIII for photography (i'm weird, i know) and i always shoot in silent mode and the results are amazing. Oh and 12mp are totally enough for 95% of usecases imo.

  • @matthieuzglurg6015

    little correction for you guys : at 2:01, you're talking about a ZV-E10 but actually show an A7IV on screen. And at 2:25, you catpion "A7IV camera" but David is actually holding a ZV-E10 Basically, the ZV-E1 is a super powerful camera, and you can look at it several ways: it's an A7S3 with all the photographic features removed (no mechanical shutter, no EVF, no large grip, limited controls). If you were using the A7S3 for video only and you're not bothered by the record times, ZV-E1 is pretty much the same thing, just cheaper. However, I know a few people that work with A7S3s and those people are fine with 12MP images when they're taking pictures, it's actually perfect for photojournalism and the A7S3 ends up being a workhorse for modern journalists that don't need much of a super high res picture (12Mp is more than enough for web / newspaper use), but they actually need good video specs it's an FX3 with the fan removed, and with simplified controls. Basically, if you aren't bothered by the record times, it could be alright, but there is no doubt the FX 3 runs longer, has backup recording, better interface (full size HDMI, better RAW support) and is easier to rig. Not really gonna mention the FX6, if you were looking at an FX6 you're most likely not interested at the ZV-E1 If you are looking for a decent cinema like camera for about 2k USD, you can either go with the ZV-E1, or go with the pretty new as well FX30, which is basically the FX3 with a smaller APS-C sensor, not only being more versatile on the photo side (if needed), but also having all the nice features that the FX3 body offers. Also! On the subject of the S5II, the autofocus is pretty good, almost as good as teh A7IV in video now that they use phase detect autofocus. It was however pretty bad ont eh original Lumix S5 (which was basically the same thing just without PDAF) Imho, if you're looking as Sony and you want a serious video camera, the big question is between the FX30 and the ZV-E1. David mentionned that you can shoot in crop mode if you have APS-C E mount glass, but if you have those lenses, then FX30 is even more a no brainer

    I don't know much of anything about cameras, but if it's mainly being used for video and heat is an issue, then they should make the processor unit be a separate, attachable device (via cable) with active cooling, so you're not limited to just 15 or 30 mins or whatever of recording time before it overheats. Plus it would be cool to be able to upgrade just the processing unit every few years. I mean, it seems at this point cameras are making more strides in the electronics/processing than the actual camera hardware (lens, sensor, shutter, etc) from generation to generation anyways, so why not? They could still keep the necessary hardware inside it for video/photo for portability. Maybe I'm just off my rocker but it seems like something they could do

    Hey linus Make a video where you add cooling to this camera - - make a threaded negative to the back of the camera ( behind the screen) with a thermal transfer plate attached to the processor - {to take the heat from the processor to the back of the camera } - make a small heatsink that can thread into this negative with active cooling - When you want to record long, flip out the screen and thread in this cooler - since the transfer plate is in the thread, it won't affect the monitor if you decided to use the camera without the active cooler This could be a really nice video and you'll get to use a lot of your fancy tools Please do it ✌🏽

    As a camcorder user I would love to see sony put this sort of sensor and features into a camera with the form factor and optical image stabilisation of the AX53. That would be my dream camera.

    4K just doesnt seem reasonable as a default shooting size for the prosumer things I do. I'm curious if this has the heating issues to the same degree with 1080. Is it going to be stuck down to 15 minute chunks only at 1080?

  • @TechnoBabble

    @TechnoBabble

    Yep, the 1080p recording still reads out the entire sensor and downscales that recording. You might get a little more recording time since the file writing part of the image processor is handling less data, but not by much.

    @@MonicaHolly143Could you explain why?. Why not make it easier to get people into photography?. I own an a7iii and do everything manually (other than autofocus) but have zero problem with others wanting to get into the hobby and have an easier time. Sure maybe they might not take as good images as someone that understands their camera but if they're happy with the results then great.

    I love how they really think 3k€ falls into the budget Camera section. The ZV-E10 is a budget Camera with an interchangeable lens. This is already mid- to high tier looking at the specs on Sonys site.

    It's definitely a step in the right direction. They finally made a decent camera for vloggers that strikes the middle ground between idiot proof & people who want at least some useful features. Definitely not for me, I'll stick to my cheaper APS-C cameras that work great for streaming but are also decent little point & shoot cameras as well, but this is definitely right for the aspiring KZreadr who doesn't want to deal with all those dials, switches, and buttons for photography, but also doesn't want an insultingly bad camera like most "vlogger" cameras before this have been.

    20:50 a lot of labor jobs are hard to replace because it’s difficult to design a robot that can interact with physical objects as efficiently as a human can. I was a maintenance tech in one of, in not the most, advanced sawmills in the US. A lot was automated, but there were still human operators at certain points in the process where it’s still not practical to automate.
