Night mode, super bright mode, and other "we don't have the technology but we'll fool you with some HDR like frame binning" mode are really messing with the colours and exposure making the photos look so unnatural.. Why do you think a pro camera like a nikon or a canon doesn't shoot "night mode". "low light mode" but they push the limits with high ISO values? Why is there this trend on the market today to really be affraid of grain in low light photos, and manufacturers preffer using a very agressive noise reduction that eliminates all detail, making the photo look painted? Why natural colours are so overrated and the likes of Samsung and Huawei boost the colour vibrancy to insane levels?? Why is photography overrated, and everyone but Sony is focusing on taking fucken selfies and cat pics for their social media accounts? Reviewers should have more respect for what Sony tries to do... staying true to the photography ideea, inovating where it really matters. Sony gives you high ISO values, HDR video, and other goodies from their PROFESSIONAL line of Alpha cameras like sony A9 or A7 MkIII, and Samsung and Apple gives you animoji.... P.S. sorry about the rant, but i am pissed at what videos some reviewers make these days... having NO CLUE about what they speak of... Oh, and sorry for my english...

That phone isn't ugly

No maintain of ultra low light sensitivity for pitch darkness, 960fps super slow mo, Qnovo battery care, real time SDR to HDR up scaling, HiRes audio and DEXHD audio up scaling, selfi camera 📸, front facing stereo speakers with S-Force and very good Sony apps like album, Music, Sketch etc and very fast updates without any lags.

It isn't "just" 0.1 inches larger than the regular. I has a different aspect ratio (16:9) which compared to XZ2's taller 18:9 screen means a much bigger screen. I can't believe you are a reviewer and you don't know this. And that aspect ratio is the reason for bigger bezels compared to XZ2.

I am a really big Samsung and Android fan, and sony do make good phones, I know their design might not be Modern or Bezelless. But seriously, this review is so Biased towards the negatives, why not Tell everyone Why they should buy this phone and why not include all of the Features of this phone! Biased Crap is what this video is!

Something I don't understand: people were bored about Sony's design, so they've changed it. Now, people are also complaining about the design: "curved rears are so 2 years ago". That's disturbing… And I don't think that low light shots taken with the G7 or the P20 Pro are as sharp as the ones taken with this XZ2P... Also, saying that the Pixel 2 delivers accurate colors ( at least more than this phone ), the review unit should have a problem… Lol

AMLAN BORUAH To be fair, the more your ISO is high, the more details will be lost, but Sony has done a fantastic job and their sensors or software is really good at dealing with high ISO. This XZ2P is their best example of that.

High ISO doesn't necessarily mean a bad one. Digital cameras have this, and even beyond that, and they do a fantastic job in low light that not even this XZ2 Premium can compete with (at least no phone yet can be as good as a DSLR or mirrorless camera in low light).

Who bumped up the resolution game? Who makes camera sensors for literally every good camera phone out there? Who made features like super slow motion? Who made phones record and take pictures in hdr? The list goes on and on.... Damn.. And how the fk ain't Sony using the dual lens for a feature? Low light capabilities are only good on the huawei or what? That bias doe. Get your facts right before you trashtalk the only semi-major phone brand which still differs from the mass. Literally every other company besides blackberry and maybe htc is going down the same path producing the same phones over and over. Doesn't have features my ass. Edit: Damn that took longer than expected.. Now rage, rage the night away! Edit 2: btw try dropping other phones as often as you dropped this device and then compare what's left of them to the fully intact xz2p.

Using dual cam to take a picture from the busy street, tons of light from the car and the shops. Then u say the result is similar to others phone. Why not just say the XZ2 Premium is complete bull s***. Dual camera is gimmicky. All others phone are using fake HDR, only SONY record in BT.2020 format. Those fake HDR is just pull up the contract and throws in some colour. Sony knows what is REAL HDR. Maybe they are the only manufacture own a smartphone and camera business. The format is the standard of the industry. Why Amazon and Netflix need to have an HDR version? Why not just doing what Samsung HDR does. Than People with no HDR screen also can enjoy the real colourful movie. Thanks for the drop test though. We all know this phone is very hard unlike iPhone and Samsung curved screen. You should do a chair arm drop test. see which phone is still in one pieces. I am a SONY fanboy but I accept any negative comment with a good reason. Not this complaining out of nothing.

SONY is 2 years behind the industry in dual rear cameras... Uh no. Last year was the first year they were becoming mainstream and the best camera phone, the Pixel 2, is still a single. I like the XZ Premium design better and it had a pretty great camera before. Even THE XZS last year was pretty great

This was a poor review. A dog could have made a better review than this lady. I am not even a Sony fan or Sony user, but there was obviously negativity throughout the entire review. The XZ2 is legitimately a decent phone with good camera, excellent build quality, good screen and excellent battery. Is $1,000 too much for ask for the XZ2 Premium? Probably so, but Engadget did not react as negatively to the iPhone X which also starts a $1,000. I am surprised that anyone can even take Engadget seriously. They have been consistently accused of being biased throughout the years. There are tons of articles on this. This lady does not even seem to know anything about technology. She talked bad about the screen, but I bet she does not even know about screen technology. Same for HDR video. Subjective as hell.

Biased biased review ever

At first, I didn't notice the reaction to this video and just put the video on full screen and very soon I found out what will be my reaction, a DISLIKE but I watched to the end and I wish I could give this more than one dislike. At the end when I saw the overall reaction I became happy to see that most viewers can detect a good review from a biased and very unprofessional one. I can easily say that this was one of the worst reviews that I have ever seen and I will never watch any of your videos.

Tested This phone it is superb very solid build amazing sound quality and 4k screen have ordered one so impressed and you don't see many off them Sony needs to push these more they are brilliant machines.

Okay..Do we have to buy the S9 and Pixel like American do? Not a chance.

I think the fp placement is perfect for you, lol. If they move it a little bit higher, you just can't reach it.

Your assessment in the end of the video is really accurate of this phone, and the audience Sony seems to be trying to grab. The negative you mention about this phone is found in just about every other review. This also includes the positives you pointed out, so I'm not sure what people are getting mad about. Don't normally like your reviews but great job.

Even though both Sony phones were bashed for humongous bezels, so I'd say the same for xz2 premium, it will get the awards and S9 will be left watching

Imran Hussein I'm not talking about the xz premium design or last year design, actually I loved that design and I was always afraid that they change it because of some stupid fans taste, I was talking about the xz2 premium design which I don't like and it's too wide, and yeah s9 don't even have a design or any other flagship they all'r the same and always was, Sony is the only one with there unique elegant design, and I wish that they return there old classy design

Peter Thiel Peter Thiel I said except the design, and is that makes the phone worth the price, my brother's phone has a same bezel less display with 300$, so I'm talking about quality and specs all the phones now has the same design, new design yes is ugly but they choice to be defirent, and I prefer bezels on the phone like there old design

Honestly, I do agree with your opinion about the new Sony dual camera flagship smartphone

I’m sorry to say this, but regarding the comments you made about blueish photo from both front and rear Xperia camera, it’s not Sony’s fault, but that’s just how you look like. While the competitors tends to apply layers of filters to make you look more reddish and over saturated, Sony were known to deliver some of the most natural result from photo shooting.

All these people saying they like this untraditional design and hating Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi... *Display to body ratio is very important!* if you don't want brick in your pocket and yet big display you need bezeless design.

So this is called a review? Nice way to get more suscribers with your honest and unbiased opinion great work.🤣

You have to fiddle alot with the camera settings alot to get things perfect. It rewards you for putting effort into it, by giving you the best pictures. If you are more lazy a Samsung phone is better for you

Ugly design? It might be but everyone forced sony to change design. Sony didn't want to have similar design like iPhone, Samsung and other Chinese companies having same designs, copying each other . Then what do you expect from sony?

The phone is awesome many people would spend money for this over a galaxy s9 or even pixel. The logic of this girl can be used in both directions. She used this against sony as a hater 😫😁

It is not cool to insinuate her face as ugly either .

Most of the reviewer likes to complain about the fingerprint magnet for the glass cover at the back as well as the phone is slippery. Why dont u all blame about the glass panel at the back of the iphone x as well? And who will care about the phone is slippery or not? Do u ever try to put ur phone in that condition? Why don u blame about the Samsung's phone for the "2 years outdated" curve back design? I felt like your review is so biases. BTW, can u see the pixel of the Quad HD display on the samsung's phone? If no then why u bother about the not-countable 4K display of the Sony phone? It does make some different on the viewing experience for the 4K display on the Sony's phone.

Hmm... From my knowledge the Software of the camera is Not yet final... So this is only a Preview ....

Although i agree that this phone doesn't follow the trends or "features" of 2018 as I design student I can easily say that this phone is one of the best designed phones out there, better than any Galaxy phone I've ever seen and don't mention the p20, it's designer nightmare

Maybe now Sony phone product were what we deserved, but weren't what we needed. Sony had their selling point that actually deserved to be pointed out, yet this get bias with many other smartphone industry that have many choices to get. Hope Sony Will always stay with their vision

I really like this phone. Isn't the whole reason people look beyond Apple and Samsung for their phone to get something quirky?

The video recorder with HDR was dull and flat she said LOL. The purpose of HDR video is for it to be color graded easier on video editing software, it's different from the fake HDR with vibrant color which makes color grading hell for video editor.

I really like the XZ2 Premium but I agree that $1000 is too much

Agree with this review. Sony may have been the first of many things. But they sure aren't great with what they started nowadays. It has been years since everybody had been using a Sony lense and yet Sony themselves never get great camera performances on their own xperia lines, even DxOMarks scores are average. Good they finally changed their design, one that HTC adopted and failed a year before, not good. At least htc had some common sense to put the fingerprint reader higher up. Just subscribed to Engadget for being truthful about this phone. I wish Sony tried a little harder since I used to be a big fan of Sony products. Hope they bounce back up in the industry. And one more thing, comparing the reviewer's looks with the phone is irrelevant.

honestly these mainstream publications cant be trusted. Check out Mathew Moniz if you want an unbiased source for xz2 premium news. His review should be coming soon. Sure the phone has it's issues but this review was negative since the start.

So Noone is going to talk about how they used a great song in the background!

Why didn't you upload an SDR and HDR video for us to see the difference in quality for ourselves? This "review" does seems rather biased though, idk what Sony did you to guys exactly. I don't like the design either, but that doesn't mean i'm going to crap all over the phone because of that 1 "major" thing. Those low light shots look good.

Had the phone 3 times and sold it.. Maybe sony should make it ain with a better screen ratio, make it more light and put a main camera with ois

"more accurate colors" I think the colors on the XZ2P are much more realistic That is why they don't like it. And use the picture mode for change the white balance is a huge facepalm, i meam, that has nothing to do with the white tone. She should try to use the WHITE BALANCE in first place.

We just not gonna mention the fact that the audio of this device smokes the competition ?? No mention of it’s hi def audio at all?? Ok

I'm so waiting for the XZ2 Premium to come out in my country Just so I could buy the XZ Premium at a reduced price. Yes, this phone design is horrendous. Cameras ? My Sony A6500 got me covered.
