Sony WF-SP800N True Wireless Sport Earphones Review

Спорт

One of my first ever true wireless sport earbud reviews was the one of the Sony WF-SP700Ns. I liked them pretty much back in 2019 but a lot had happened since. I tried and used and reviewed quite a few of the best earbuds in the last year or so but ever since the WF-1000XM3s came out I was waiting for Sony to upgrade the SP700N with a few features of the 1000XM3. And the new Sony WF-SP800N is exactly what I had hoped for. It’s an almost perfect mix of the two true wireless earbuds…

I used them for a week as you use them, then I looked the promo video by sony and learned that they have to be used so the SONY letters are totally horizontally, that way, the bud has more contact points with your external ear and bass (and overall) sound improves 30%. Thanks for the review.

It’s helped me to consider why I might accept that my Jabras are near as good (75T or 85T which I own both), but their fit is not that secure (sadly) and certainly not for rigorous activities. @@AndysTechTone Thank you for your reply. It's interesting to see reviews from people living in many parts of the world and perhaps those who moved from another part of it. I can thank my grandparents for moving to Alberta (Canada) +100 years ago and ancestors (French and Irish) for coming to Canada +300 yrs ago. Ireland is a target destination some day, and so are places like Croatia, Germany and surrounding countries. Regarding your audio room / living room, it sounds like it makes sense for the time being and it seems to work well; best regards. We are fortunate to have an individual room for our AV listening and wathcing; not too fancy, yet special enough. Again, thanks for the great review (underrated as someone else commented) and stay safe (pandemic).

@@AndysTechTone yes, it’s similar with me regarding earbuds. It’s like, why not have premium headphones or earbuds that one can take anywhere and hear all your favorite music instead of big expensive systems. Regarding 🇨🇦 Canada; what a country. Politics aside (no politician is perfect), there is much to see. So vast and so many miles. Where I live (Edmonton), there is a great river valley for activities and there are annual festivals (largest cultural in N. America) as well as 2nd largest Fringe Festival (live theatre) in the world. There’s NHL hockey (Oilers) and Canadian 🏈 football and ⚽️ soccer (as we call it). There is what use to be the worlds largest shopping mall with indoor water park and roller coaster amusement park etc. There is snow and cold as well and winter activities. We live 3.5 hours from Banff or Jasper (Rocky Mtn National Parks) and lots to do there of course. There is the Royal Tyrrell Museum (Dinosaur badlands). Today is +22C and sunny. Nicest thus far for spring. British Columbia (west of us) has so much including fruit orchard area and many mountain ranges and then Vancouver (ocean). Back east like in province of Ontario there is Toronto and Ottawa and history and much more and many lakes. Québec is culturally rich with French (mostly of course) with music and festivals and some influences from Irish and Italian. Québec is the birthplace of my grandparents. Nova Scotia and those areas have much to see as well. Make sure you plan your trip and create a short list. 👍

Hi, I am interested in purchasing these earbuds because the Sony WF-SP900 aren't available where I live, and the 800s are. For me, I'd be using them mostly for swimming in a pool. I always wear a cap and I avoid diving since I am protecting my hair :) So the earbuds would potentially be protected too.. I guess my question is: Have you done a shower test, wetting the earbuds and how did they behave afterwards? I know the claims on the box don't make the 800N suitable for pool use, but I am kind of thinking of risking it.. Thanks!

The SP800s won't work in the swimming pool due to the fact that Bluetooth does not work in water at all. I know you said you'd keep your head above the water, but still I would not recommend buying these or any similar Bluetooth earphones with the intention of using them for swimming! There are other headphones with built-in mp3 players such as the Sony NW-S623 or the Aftershocks Xtrainerz which were designed to be used in the water. Have a look at my reviews of those.

It could be either connection or streaming related but it shouldn't give you any noise like that. A software update or a hard reset might help. If not, ask for a replacement.

  • @AndysTechTone

Never realised that before but now I checked and neither of the buds seem to pause automatically when used in mono mode regardless of the settings in the app. Wether it is intentional or a bug, I'm not sure. As a second best option I set single tap to play/pause, it's quick and easy to control the bud that way

I really wanted to like them but the noise cancellation is non existant . I have also encountered a lot of random disconnection and issues with the app itself on an ios device. I will be returning these and use the jabra elite 75t active instead.

I just returned my sp800n to the Sony shop. They were not very pleased and tried to explain their way out of my issues for over 30 minutes. 1. He explained that the Noise Cancelling is not a separate feature, its controlled by the ambiance balance, this means you cant have both working separately although the feature "Noise Cancelling" is a separate feature turned on and off in the left Bud. So that gets an "F" Mark. 2. If you want to be able to Pause, Fwd, Back your music then you cannot control the volume from the head set. It's either one or the other. This is why there is no where in the short instruction that tells you how to change the volume. Very Silly. The salesman said you cant find an ear bud that has all the controls but I've been using Jabra's for 3 years and they do it all without changing modes in the App. 3. If you want the feature on where the headphones detect your environment, then you'll have to put up with the left ear bud stopping and starting every time it switches between environment modes. Very annoying. 4. I told him the sound is not as good as Sennheiser M3IETW-C Which are a pretty old model, but I purchased the Sony's because of the ear fit, his answer was yes your right you'd have to compare those with the 1000's. So all in all the SP800's are not really fit for purpose and the Sony staff are not very well informed about their product or the market around them. He was pretty Narky and I doubt I'd every try them again.
