The Sony xe 300 has way better deeper bass. No contest feel the music. But no highs, muffled vocals so lacks feeling lyrics. Sounds like it's in one spot. The charge 5 has less bass and less deep but can hear cymbols and lyrics. Both lack. Sony's Bass with jbls uppers and fill the room sound with adjustability to down the treble just a bit is what you'll want. Edit. Also the Sony has a creepy microphone.

Thru the app you can change the default setting of the battery saving feature that use the microphone for the ambiant noise adaptive sound. The microphone is used primarly for the phone functionality and adaptice noise. It does have a google assitant integration, but not fully independant in the speaker. It has to be run from the smartphone. Also the default setting is for the speaker standing up and playing in mono. Set it up to stereo place it down and enjoy.

Sony lacks a tweeter, JBL lacks deep thunder. The JBL highs don't need adjusted down, just tweeters can be too loud for future products. Bass is why we buy these. And balanced sound stage. Real world not low volume display. It will be returned.
