Thanks for this great review!
One of my favorite KZread channel.. Very helpful..
Good review and explaining the target market.
Excellent review.
Nice work man.
Thanks for the review and sample footage. I thought it was a 24mm equivalent lens, instead of 35?
by the way good video and great channel, just subbed
Gosh I want one!
This is would be great as a second POV camera ... I have a Sony Alpha 6300 .. I would love to use this as a second POV while shooting interviews .... what’s your thoughts
I video while i'm airbrushing and did not like the go pro type footage that is distorted. This is much better but i do need to have it set further back from the work which sometimes is problematic.
Indeed, great camera! Hopefully a firmware upgrade will bring 4k internal recording. Will definitely buy it then
S-log2 and rx100 in a small package! Bring it on!!!!
Did you shoot your footage with the filter adapter and a neutral density filter? If so, does the adapter/lens hood work well? Thanks.
Meant for me!
I just want to know what camera did u use to speak on this video...
This camera's been described as an RX-100x in a small package. The RX-100x excels as a great street camera for its size and its lightning-quick focus, among other things. Leaving video aside, how does the RX-0 compare in terms of focus quickness and good high-ISO performance?
I personally use a Gopro 3+ with a gimbal. I have been dying for an upgrade as I use it for travel where I just document our family travels along with my dslr exclusively for photos. I don't have much use for 4K video but that video quality boost is a must for me. If the EVO GP PRO makes a mount for this Sony camera, I would seriously consider this upgrade seeing that the Hero 6 still has some issues.

go for the SONY FDR-X3000R. in short 4K video with Stabilization. different form factor though. :) do a quick search

Depends on use cases. You get a much wider lens with the FDR-X3000R (with somewhat of a fisheye look), the low light shooting isn't quite as good, and I believe slow-mo is not quite as good either. While the stabilization on the 3000 is great, I have seen a couple of examples in reviews where you lose significant detail.
does it have a zoom option?, if so how good is it?
You say a couple of times that the Sony has a 35mm equiv. lens. Are you sure about that? Other reviewers are stating 24mm equiv. lens. Anyway thanks for the review and nice to see some actual footage. I think a lot of people are hoping for a second generation with in- camera 4k but I would still prefer this sort of quality image in 1080p than lousy image in 4k.
Add an Atomos Ninja Star, and maybe the Backbone mod, and it will be ideal as a Crash Cam, especially for films shooting on FS7 or FS5.
How is the sound or mic
video stabilisation?
Drone camera supreme perhaps ?
if it comes with wide angle lenses + OIS that would be perfect
Can it record in 2k?
So what about important info...like battery life...does it do continueous recording or does it shut off in a half hour...Id like it for mounting on the right side of keyboards at concerts...once wanted rx100 cams...but they could only do 30 minutes...and heat was also a problem...these parameters should never be left off any review...we all know the quality will be top knotch...its a sony...its got to work out in the field...
This is going into wedding, events, and corporate video work
iPhone with gimbal ?
Finally someone who gets it is no actioncam.

Did you just combine two sentences into one?
Good FHD with high bitrate is and has always been better then bad 4K with low bitrate . Currently they have not been able to put 4k and high bitrate into such a small package , that day has yet to come. This is important for anyone creating material for jobs with higher budget , however then they useally use a small camera like gh4 or gh5 . I can see this as a nice tool that you have in bag "just in case" . Also could be useful for some broadcast applications where you need to put extra camera in a position that is tricky and you dont want to show that there is a camera, in this case fisheye gopro on TV is a nono . Also crashcam, underwater footage etc .
Can it do a fisheye effect? If so, it may be worth buying. Also can't find how it can be mounted to a chest mount or head mount. This would not be good for action but good for walking and vlogging.

I don't think so. Who wants fisheye?

I think the Sony FDR X3000 would be better for you.
Is it not 24mm( 35mm equivlant) field of view?
@morrisgetman9827

It is, actually a 24mm equiv. lens. 35 is what the equivalent relates to, must have been just a slip of the tongue.
1080p video up to 100p ???????
I’m sure it has 2k7 or something. With this quality it more than enough
Has the HFR function been implemented better than on the rx100?

I was in a scene with him in a movie called Kansas City...
Version 2 will have stabilisation, next year. Version 3 will have integrated 4k. Wake me up in 2 years.
WOW i was excited to get this cam for traveling but no 4k and no stabilization!? No thank you
I'm looking to strictly film slow motion videos of destroying stuff, maybe punch a friend in the face, I want something that is easily uploaded to the internet, any suggestions?
omg Makaley Kalkin)
No 4k is not a problem but What I don't understand is the price.
Oh my goat! No 4k internal video recording. omg .
Agreed. This camera makes zero sense for consumers. The primary user is going to be in the industry. I'd primarily use it for car interior shots. I can have an external recorder hidden away and get 4K. I modified my Hero4 Black with an interchangeable lens Ribcage kit for this exact reason. And it should do a much better image than a standard GoPro.

I'd also use it on my motorized slider. I'd still need my GoPro for real action-cam responsibilities that require 4k. It might replace my GoPro for any other tasks I use the GoPro with now. I wonder how rolling shutter is on it?
No stabilisation :( Useless for vlogging.

You can buy gimbal
@tosvus
6 жыл бұрын
Yes a small gimbal would work well (you need something to hold anyway). I think with that, it would be excellent for vlogging, considering quality, especially low light performance. Also, the review (while very good), did not speak much about the people that want to incorporate slow-mo. I have seen some pretty impressive footage from this thing in that regard. (and again, seems more and more vloggers these days embrace stuff like slow-mo, since they think it is fancy...)
@SebMellia

Not agree. A gimbal is expensiv, and generally it s usefull whent it s add with digital stabilisation of camera. The gimbal alone is not perfect. And for vlogging we need battery life. It battery is very small... Only 700mh... :( Th fdr x3000 has a 1250mh battery and optical stabilisation.
The audio is better then the gopro

E JP yes, and without image stabilization it's great for recording things that does not move, a wall for example.
❤💓❤
I’m one of those professional videographer that was looking for something like this for long time. Unfortunately I’m not buying this product for the following reasons, no 4K and battery life. The kind of professional that needs this product, also needs those features, even if it’s 20-50% bigger the camera will still be small enough to be hide in places for documentary work or weddings, but we need over an hour of continuous recording, most of the stuff we record is around an hour length ( ceremony, conference speaker interviews etc) so you need a battery live and continues recoding for at least 1:15 minutes, so you can start recording 5 minutes before the show and still have a bit left in case the show runs 10 minutes over. otherwise is useless. Wtf Sony you did it again. I guess all that will come on v2 or v3, so they can sell a few more cameras but I’m tired of that game.
no stabilization and not 4K... Sony! what were you thinking!!!

Uhh, like it would overheat in under 3 minutes in a such a form factor and melt?

And 4k video out of 700mAh battery would be like max 15-20 minutes anyways? At least that'd give you something else to bitch about.
Great video, thanks! If this shot 4K I would buy it, especially if it had a 24 mm lens. 35 is cool, but not from a selfie / KZread perspective. Not that this camera is designed for that, but I could see it being used great for that! 35, when turn to the self, isn't quite wide enough. Even 24 can be tight. Oh Sony, how I wish this was 4K! I just did a review of The Hero 6, and noted that I'm so sick of the round distorted view that have GoPro offers it is my first upgrade since a Hero 3, because of my passion for 4K 60 frames per second. Would have loved that Sony!kzread.info/dash/bejne/pn6Hq8ivd6bMnbg.html

I would check out the new MK2 version before there are none available. Sony recently had to stop production because they couldn't meet supply demands; factory caught fire and destroyed several units.
"No internal 4K"... annnnnd closes video window.
No 4k, no stabilisation = no thanks!
Killed two Birds with One Stone. thank you.
why the fuck an F4... the rx100 at 24mm is 1.8

If you could get 1.8 out of that miniature lens, it would be insanely soft.

But most smartphones are using tiny little sensors. Not 1" sensors. There are optical limitations that some along with capturing to a 1" sensor in a small camera with, what is basically, a pinhole lens.

Big DS Productions you are right, but f.4 i think it's to much close. I can't imagine low light performance...like 12800 iso to have visible footage lol and that iso level on a 1inch sensor, hello grain!

My personal preference for the work I do is to have a f/2.8 or better. Seems like most of the affordable lenses Sony releases lately for E-mount are f/4. I did see some low light footage from the RX0 and I wasn't impressed. Pretty mushy and noisy. The quality was bad enough, that I think it may be better being a little soft at f2.8. Still better than my Hero4 Black though. I might add the RX0, but it won't be replacing my Ribcage Hero4.
thanks for the insights. agree with you on all points....its also too expensive a price point with no IBS and non-4K. btw you need a hair cut 😜
You very beautiful
Stop talking! I start drawling!
The downside is there is no stabilization!!

It's not an action camera and I'm pretty sure those who bought this camera are gimbal user.
For starters a GoPro makes crappie video compared to this Sony
