Being rugged, waterproof and matchbox sized, the RX0 makes a lot of sense for on the go caving photography. If only Sony adds long exposure options, it would be the icing on the cake!

Hi how did u managed to shoot in the F4 in 100 shutter speed..or did u use ND to film in daylight.

How is this so hard to understand? The RX0 is a cinema camera in the body of a GoPro. I mean the S-Log is a dead give away. It's not meant to be used as an actual GoPro, it's meant to be used as a tool to create cinematic shots. The RX0 isn't really meant for GoPro users, it's meant for professionals who're going to use this along with big boy Sony cinema cameras but aren't going to risk a $10,000 camera for a dangerous shot. It also can actually be a great little vlogging camera, since you can grade the footage later and get some really nice footage. The RX0 is basically meant for those who're looking for a GoPro but with actually good, gradable files.

I know exactly what this camera was made for.... it's definitively not an action camera for sport, and it has nothing to do with extreme situations... this camera was made for bloggers, for hikers, for those who film their journeys while talking, who focus on the landscapes they are filming, and who want a superb image quality when they talk to their viewers. Most of those bloggers are forced to use an action camera because of the weight and the security, but they are not satisfied with the quality, and those who want great quality videos, are forced to walk with a heavy DSLR or pocket cameras, with the risk of damaging it (rain, drop it, etc.... just look at the multi problems Casey Neistat have with his cameras) All Bloggers have to use handles with their cameras, this SONY RX0 was made specifically for them, they have to use a GIMBAL or a handheld stabilizers vs normal one... like that, they will get all what an action camera can do but with a DSLR quality, without being afraid of rain or to drop it when escalating a mountain.. The Sony RX0 + 3 axis gimbal is by far superior to anything outdoor bloggers can dream off... The Sony RX0 is an CINEMATIC CAMERA, not an ACTION CAMERA...

Yeah, it's just not practical. If you need to bring an external recording device it kind of looses its purpoise of being small. Might just use your regular camera instead and it would be less of a hassle.

Christopher Pack wtf would you do that? For $700 just buy the bigger camera that shoots 4k internally. No one wants carry around an external recorder

You said it’s a 24mm equivalent but it says on the lens itself it says 35mm

That wording on the lens means that it's 24mm in 35mm equivalent terms. The lens is actually 7.7mm.

I'm still going to stick with a Go pro- for however long they're going to be around.

The rx100 is about as big as the rx0 with this cage------> So where is the need for Vloging... ? :D

For one thing, the RX100 cameras don't have a mic input. Unless you're going to use the camera's built-in mic (not a good idea), you have to use an external digital recorder. Also, having just looked at the dimensions, it looks to me that the RX0 with a cage is indeed smaller than an RX100. It's also half the weight.

That is one point aginst many point that stand out when you looking at the RX100... Its got big zoom 4k for some time internely , viewfinder , flipscreen........ etc.

but but but rx100 is not waterproof and crusproof, that cage is the one that make rx0 crusproof (to some extent) right?

So the Sony rx0 will be no good for weddings or mainly chinese weddings I sometimes shoot. As I currently use a xiaomi yi 2k as b-roll at 2k and it never over heats or turns off. I will probably stick to xiaomi. Sorry sony .

This camera is being marketed incorrectly. It's not an action camera, Sony already make their own 'action cameras'. It's an RX100 in a compressed body. It's been mainly designed as a small B/C camera to match A7/FS series cameras & that is easy to mount in hard places & control/record externally. Jake

One of the reasons that I'm returning my new Hero6 is that RX0 1080p looks better than Hero6 4K and offers significantly more room for colour correction. There's something to be said for spending less time counting pixels and more time looking at what they deliver.
