Love your work. Great details for someone looking to buy a sony microphone!
Keep on sharing informative videos thanks for this
TY! I wonder if the g1 is going to make improvement over the Zv1 internal mic
Very thorough video! Much appreciated

Thank you!
Awesome review of the 3 mics! Coincidentally I have a Diety D3 Pro and am looking to upgrade for the same exact pain points you mentioned. I might have to go with the B1M 😁

I've been using the B1M in most of my videos now, very happy with it.
I felt like there is no noticeable difference between b10 and G1 when it's processed. What do you think?
nice video thank you for this! good work

18:35 The windscreen is not to reduce the "gimbal sound" (shock mount noises) but to reduce the wind noise. To reduce shock mount noise you put a rubber band at the junction between the shock mount and the camera body. Windscreen does not matter for this purpose.
@foXnoMad

It might not be built for that but in my testing it definitely reduced the sound from the shock mount.

The dead cat muffles the rumble from the gimbal knocking the mic housing. It produces similar rumble as the noise hitting the mic, thus why the deadcat muffles the gimblal sound as is doing a similar dampening effect.
Very useful

I just bought the B1M mic. Why can’t I hear recorded playback on videos? Isn’t that a standard function of any video camera? I’ve read that you have to upload it to a computer to hear the audio?

Which camera are you using? On most, if not all, you should hear audio when you play back from the camera itself. Try adjusting the playback volume (usually by pushing a button - probably down - on the control wheel during playback).
In my ears the edited sound sounds very robotic, on all microphones. it gives a strange feeling to listen to. I would say its over edited. Which characteristic did you use on B10 and B1M? Because in other reviews the B1M could nearly completely block out the indoor echoes if its on super cardioid

Generally set to super directional but definitely no way it's canceling the echo in that room even on that setting.
11:37 It is not "the gimbal sound", I think you meant the noises coming from the shock mount. I did not see any gimbal throughout your video although you mentioned "gimbal" several times.

@@gigihanmandarin it's great the way the internet always corrects you. Great video btw
When you say "gimbal" on the microphone, do you mean the shock mount? TIA.
@foXnoMad

Yeah, somehow got stuck saying gimbal while recording.
11:24 uhhhh thats inaccurate but ok. Thats more for rf devices not for wires devices its kinda unheard of maybe if wire is unshielded and worth… idk 2 bucks this is not tje case with most wires
7:04 "volume" of a microphone is called "gain", not volume.
17:23 To know that your mic is plugged in properly just flip the microphone to AUTO and when you click the FN button on the camera you will see the microphone gain adjustment is disabled and the icon is RED. There is no need to do that silly tappidy tap finger dance.
@foXnoMad

Two clicks or two taps, same result but tap is quicker.
It’s called a Shock Mount, not a gimbal?
@foXnoMad

That's right, somehow got the word gimbal in my head when recording.

@@foXnoMad Loool. No worries. Have you compared this to the MKE400. I’m thinking of returning it for the B1M?
@foXnoMad

Haven't compared it to the MKE400 but can say the B1M is a solid choice.

@@foXnoMad Thanks.
B10 keeps sounding digital, tinny and sizzling from every review video I saw. So, either B1M from the best of the bunch, or G1 for its small size and budget(er) price. Skip B10.

and what about the new ECM-M1?
@gigihanmandarin
9 ай бұрын
@@scottiebumich B1M & M1 are priced the same but M1 has more features than B1M. B1M, being the previous flagship model, still sounds the best because of it having the most number of microphone capsules. If you need the new features - M1. If those new features do not mean much to you and you don't mind having a mic that is just a tiny bit bigger but offers better sound quality - B1M.
@scottiebumich

I also don't see the benefit of the M1 for general use. The cluster of microphones makes it harder to isolate farther sounds. From an engineering standpoint it's designed for a close proximity around the camera. I would love to hear how the two mics perform for ranged subjects.@@gigihanmandarin I was able to pick the BM1 for $210 new so I'll hold on to that until the M1 is a bit older and trade up when the used prices for the M1 comes down (once more reviews hit the web)

@@scottiebumich Did you mean you got a B1M? If you are happy with B1M and you do not have any use of M1's advance features I would actually discourage you from getting the M1. I have seen multiple comparison videos between B1M and M1 and clearly M1 sounds more thin and tinny, comparable to B10 (4 capsules) and clearly a par below B1M (8 capsules).
