    Great belt explanation for the 400. I'm looking for advice for a similar problem. I have replaced both belts. Everything appears to work except the disk, once loaded into the player slot does not rotate. "Cannot Play" appears.

    Hi Mike. Thanks for your great video on how to replace the table drive belts. The problem you had when first loading the discs (you put them in backwards), could have been avoided if you had noticed and read the small black sticker located just above the door to the unit. I have also found out (the hard way) that one should not pick up and tip the unit while it has several CDs inside, as they fall out of the turntable slots and can jam things up inside if the unit is on (or gets turned on thereafter). Just mentioning this here for any others who are about to work on one of these Sony jukebox devices. Otherwise it was a very helpful video and I gave it a like. I wish I had the patience and the tools to make informative videos, but thankfully there are wonderful people like you to make lives easier for the rest of us. Thanks again!

    Thanks Mike! Your instructions made this repair relatively easy and that probably (okay, definitely) wouldn’t have been the case otherwise. I spent far more time handling the CDs than changing the belts and found the first (largely obstructed by the “shroud”) belt to be the most awkward. I really appreciate your help with this!

    Just picked up a fully working cdx455 for 10 dollars plus 400 cds included, it's a very nice player, the loading mechanism is slow between songs /cds compared to the older 300 disc Sony I have but the interface is better and now I can control both with the one player, great video, and I have done many of these, the more you do the faster, and better you can do it, tks for sharing how to do it.

    Your video was a great help. Thanks! I was able to replace the two drive belts on my CDP-CX455 and it worked fine for a while. While the mechanical loading, rotating the carousel, and door mechanisms all work fine, the playback sounds very distorted after the unit has been running a while. After it has been playing CDs for a while, it cannot read the table of contents on some CDs. After it has been off for a while, it plays the CDs it had trouble with just fine for a while and then the playback starts being distorted on them. I suspect something is overheating. I tried running the unit with the top and rear covers removed but still had the same problem. The CDs in the unit are all home made copies that play fine in another CD player. The only thing I can think of is that there are a lot of errors on the CDs and that some component in the unit is spending a lot of time dealing with the errors and overheating. Much more likely than this is that something else is going on. Has anyone else seen this and fixed it? Again, thanks for taking the time to make and share your video with us. It was a huge help. Michael

    Do these belts REQUIRE grease? It seems the belts in my unit have grease on them. Should the belt drive pulleys be CLEANED of grease before assembling?

  • @ianhillman4007

    Neil Helgeson Definitely don't get grease on the belts or pulleys. That will cause them to slip and the machine will not function properly.

    Glad to be of help. One of the benefits of changing the belts with the unit standing on end is it prevents the belts from falling into the grease while changing.

    Mike, my old cd 400 gave up the ghost, when I opened it up the belts had turned to a gooey mush not unlike road tar, cleaning it off the pulleys was a nightmare. The only solvent I had that touched the goo was acetone, unfortunately it also started to eat into the other (whitish plastic) components. An hour later and a waste can full of makeup application swabs, (not unlike hard q-tips with with one pointy end) I had managed to clean it off the pulleys, btw the acetone doesn’t effect the actual pulleys. My question, since I had to remove the large pulleys from the mounting post. Is do you have any idea about what kind of grease to use?

  • @mikesgigtv

    @mikesgigtv

    4 жыл бұрын

    White lithium and use very sparingly. If there is clean excess grease on another component in the area you could grab some of that.

    Thanks for your reply, Mike. I opened the changer and replaced both belts, but the problem has not been repaired. I observed operation in the "all discs shuffle" mode while I had it opened. The unit does in fact insert and spin the next disc, but it seems to get stuck trying to choose one of the tracks on that disc. I also cleaned the lens for the disc, but that did not help either. Do you have any additional suggestions?

    Hi Mike! I used your video to replace belts in two Sony CDP models - a CX455 and a CX300. I have run into an odd problem. The CDP455 plays CD's fine up to slot 130 - any CD's added to higher number slots just never load. It appears tha the unit "tries" a couple of times, then goes to the next disc - it keeps doing this - without ever actually playing the discs - up to slot 212. I am thinking that the "picker" mechanism is at fault, or maybe the carousel platter is slightly askew and so the unit can't pick the CD's? A successful load process is as follows - you select the disc, it picks the disc, you get the TOC READING message, then I hear the high pitched sound of the CD being read, then pressing play plays the CD. The other higher numbered slots you hear the pick mechanism, but never the high-pitched whine - so the CD is not being read - then the player goes to the next higher numbered disc and repeats this. I did clear the memory of the unit a couple of times. It looks like there is a CMOS battery that may be the original. I will try replacing this to see if that helps. Understand if you cannot answer. Great tutorial. I am going to hook up the 300 model now to fully test it. Thanks again! 5 *****!

    I have the same one. The unit comes on but the CD carousel will not move and it says cd 71 like it is stuck at it. even if I manually move it to cd 71 and place the CD in there it's still says the same thing and will not do anything. When I push open the door will not open by itself but if I manually open it it will then close by itself once I unplug the unit and plug it back in. I know a belt is probably causing the carousel not to turn but could that be causing the whole problem I have?

    I have a CDP M555ES 400 disc changer that operates perfectly for 20 to 40 minutes but then it gets stuck when it attempts to change to the next disc. On the display it keeps scrolling through the disc numbers, but the carousel is not turning. This continues until I turn the unit off. I can turn it back on and it will operate perfectly for 15 to 30 minutes when it again gets stuck. Do you have a solution for this?
