Fives as surround is the best decision I have made for my system. The soundstage is so much fuller and wider, I cannot believe what a major improvement it is over the One's. Do not listen to anyone telling you differently. Yes it's expensive and yes it is definitely worth it.

Swapped out the Ones for the Fives yesterday. The Fives seem to allow the Arc focus more on the dialogue. The clarity on the Fives are definitely better when watching movies. Crazy expensive as surrounds, but I don't see myself returning them.

I would rather wait to see if Sonos release some rear up firing speakers

Can you use two fives a replacement for the arc. Right now I have the arc paired to two moves and am flat out disappointed with the arc.

Ended up going with the Arc, 2 Gen 3 Subs, and two Fives as rears. I have the dual subs on either side of the Arc around 18 feet (6 meters) from my main sitting position. The rear Fives are 9-12 feet (3-4 meters) behind the main sitting position on speaker stands mounted horizontally. I'm mostly TV viewing during the week and music on the weekends. The Sonos system with the Fives do a much better job of being more immersive with a richer, deeper sound with more bass you can feel compared to my old Nakamichi 7.2.4 system. I would probably gone with the One SL if the rears were under 3-4 feet (+/- a meter) from my couch.

can you compare the sonos one vs sonos in-ceiling architectural speakers with amp as surround speakers? is it worth it to get the in ceiling speakers?

I'm very interested in this as well. Can you get the ceiling speakers run through the sonos amp and get a better Dobly Atmos experience or is it not worth it?

I want to know if the 5s work well as fronts and Ones work well in that set in the rear, with a sub3

I’m using the Fives as fronts rather than rear. My living room is rectangular with the tv and arc in the centre. I find the placement of the fives placed to the far right and left of the room provides a wider sound stage. The ARC still provides the atmospheric effect of sounds but I personally think the Fives complements it further. I’m also using dual sub gen 3s

For listening to music, which is better: one five or two (separated) ones?

The Fives are better for range of sound- better lows and highs and louder overall volume but the ones in a stereo pair will give you better stereo seperation. I personally would go with the Five for music.

I have sonos arc and one sub and 2 one sl…is it possible to connect one sonos five to the system? Will the app pair it will the arc

No, you can't add the extra Five speaker to an Arc/Beam group that already has two rear surround speakers. You can add the Five in the whole house audio configuration in the app. You just have the Five in the same room and select it in the Sonos App. It won't be part of the Arc/sub/One theater grouping and my LG OLED TV remote does not control the volume for the extra speakers. I have to use the Sonos App to control all the extra speakers added to the Arc/sub/One theater group. Another downside is the extra speaker (or speakers) are added in either mono for one or in stereo pair if they are already set up in that configuration as stand alone. You might get a slight sound delay, unbalanced sound, or echoing depending on where you place the extra speakers in the room.

So, for the music in a small room, Sonos One is enough? Or the Fives gives extra boost, so they are better? How about if we add a sub to Sonos One?

Are you asking about when they’re paired with the ARC or by themselves? If it’s with the ARC then the ones would be more than enough in a small room. If it’s without the ARC then the Fives would give you a much richer sound in a pair over the Ones and the Fives can be connected with the sub for an even bolder sound. Unfortunately the ones can’t be connected to the sub without being paired to a Soundbar. Hope this helps

@@archwaytech Thank you for your reply. I am using them through wireless. Isn't Sonos sub can also be connected through wireless. So the app can control the sound on both the Sonos One and Sonos Sub?

@@archwaytech Nope. I am just using them for music as a separate speakers. I just bought couple of Sonos One for the bedroom and then I saw the Sonos five. So I am thinking if Sub can substitute the Five's base for the Sonos One.

Unfortunately you can’t connect the sub to a pair of ones by themselves… it won’t let you do that in the app. You can connect the sub to a pair of fives and any of the Soundbars.

So there’s not a huge difference in terms of sound quality between One’s & Five’s using them as a rear speaker for gaming and Movies

Correct. The ones are more than capable of reproducing the surround audio so for movies and gaming I wouldn’t spend the extra.

You actually don't get the full use of the fives in vertical mode compared to having them in horizontal position for surround sound,, the fives are far superior in horizontal position for movies gaming and music than the ones.

My opinion is exactly the opposite. The fives sounded significantly better than the ones which were lackluster.

Is this a joke? We cannot compare the ones with fives which cost more than twice... the result is obvious... Would make more sense to compare two one in stereo vs 1 five.

When used as rear speakers there’s practically no difference because the audio sent to them doesn’t use the full capability of the Fives. Now if you want to compare them being used in a stereo pair then that’s when the Fives are way better.
