@@DymonBeats Facts. You can always tell there’s magic to a beat that was created from scratch versus a loop with drums. I’ve heard amazing work done with loops. But there is a subtle difference between the “instrumental” sound of a loop versus the original sound of a beat made from scratch. Loops can feel and sound like instrumentals that we’ve all heard before. But I’m not knocking loop makers, but manipulate the loops, change them and play over them if you’re gonna use them.

BIG FACT = Making beats without using the kick drum is what producers do when A. The 808 that they are using has a good enough transient that it punches through without a kick. (Less is more.) and B. We do not use the kick when we want to emphasize the bass of the 808. For example, sometimes i want my 808 to be my loudest low frequency in some beats and when I do that it doesn't makes sense to add a kick just to have it hitting at a lower volume than the 808 that I want to shine the most. Some beats need the 808 to hit harder than everything and it is these beats that do not require kicks unless you want make your kickdrum volume lower than the 808 and stack it underneath but that would be pointless if you emphasized the 808 in a prevalent way.
Sonny is a real genuine soul - appreciate the dedication to the universe
Been producing for almost a year now on FL. Wanted to learn how to make my own melodies before I started using loops. I use em sparingly but I love making my own melodies.

Man that LiveMixtapes idea is great. Cause it definitely would allow producers and artists to experiment with they craft without the pressure of streaming . They can completely focus on their craft. Gain exposure and if something pop can be remastered and drop it on streaming!!

Completley agree, actually LiveMixtapes and other mixtape services provided a great platform for DJs and Producers. Artist's could still use these services to give content to fans, experiement and leak songs that were requested on forums and their socials. Its still a really good way to get some buzz whilst not having to create an album and having to wait for 1-2 years in between sometimes even longer

the loop part is insane because when i started it was just sampling and scratch melodies essentially, and curated loops were popping up, but i had to focus on other shit and just zoned out of the community and made scratch beats instead of playing video games. Yo 8:40 is a great question and I love the response from Sonny Digital. I'm just getting started, and that's a frequent question in my head that I struggle with, which is how to stand out and whether or not producing beats can really be that lucrative with so many beats out there nowadays. I write my melodies and chord progressions from scratch, and it's inspiring to hear there are some established producers and artists that appreciate the time, work, and skill to produce original melodies and progressions and not just throwing loops together.
I prefer making shit from scratch with trap but for boom bap sampling is my go to. The way I look at it with trap is why would I manipulate someone elses melodies when I can create my own?
Great interview! Sonny Digital is one of my FAVORITE producers!
I loved this interview. Since I typically serve the Artist Community as a Producer, I really liked Sonny's idea of bringing mixtapes back as a way for artists to experiment and get heard (especially if they are coming up). I think singles could also work like this. Singles as just SONGS that won't appear on an album. It also allows artists to drop consistent content, test what sound works, etc. Definitely would love to hear a new mixtape fr. #KMakesBeats

Just started making beats. Appreciate this interview
Nowadays it's just too easy to make beats, which makes it hard to be seen. There's an opportunity there though, because when there's an entire ocean of white, being blue or some other color stands out alot, so if you can differentiate yourself, you can really stand out above the crowd. So many people are making the same old shit and people are thirsty for something original, the hardest part is to get someone to give you a listen, if you can accomplish that and can deliver when they do actually give you a listen, you are golden. Be your own worst critic, improve your weaknesses, listen to other genres to expand your musical palette. Timbaland was killing it with those Indian style vibes, his beats were iconic because they had their own flavor. If you're just trying to make beats that sound like someone else, you're doing it wrong. Take inspiration, don't bite the style.

@@mrspacely7320 While that's true some of us actually enjoy creating our own creations & not having to pay others when we can do what they bring to the table ourselves.. Imagine the work you can do if you stay on pt , not only selling a loop or beat for a placement but a package of beats for a mixtape/album, with mixing and mastering included. (All-in-1 price package) If so mixtapes could fire back up & albums would in the works or already be done if you plan and lock in and cook/record as scheduled with that (All-in-1 price package) tho feel me Then like Sonny Digital said mixtapes should come back and artists should drop more. I didn’t fully understand the significance of the mixtape movement. I kinda get it from djingy own beats and easily making a beat tape from it. I get the sparring part. But basically is he saying to get your name out there with mixtapes first and build an audience / foundation first before you create a solid body of work to compete with the pros?
@StatPresto
Жыл бұрын
Thats just one major way for your name to become bigger and have more foundation under your belt. Its the building Rome mentality. Knowin that practice is gonna make you perfect and prepared for the big game. Its not the only method but look at all the people that have taken this approach and look at the longevity of their careers and how they stand the test of time by focusing on the music and not the rewards. The rewards naturally come with the work.

Focus on yourself and dont compare to other people... just compare to the better version of yourself. you know how people who are not artists & producers/beatmakers so you dont have to think to them. The problem since 1/2/3 years is many people want to walk on people with social networks and the ones who dont want to have the last word are the more clever.
