The Zero Gravity OST is such an amazing techno-opera, it makes me wonder what went so horribly wrong with Free Riders...

I think Zero-G's style appeals to me more than Riders and it's probably why I liked it more. I'm a big sucker for the hyper-technolised atmosphere of Zero-G. SCR-HD (the game's main villain) has been my favourite sonic character ever since I first saw him, overtaking CHAOS as my favourite. I mean, a flying, katana-weilding wheel robot with glowing blue eyes and the ability to transform into a living Black Hole is so cool man. I really wish Megapol, Meteotech or the SCR series would return at some point. (Also thank you for being one of the only Zero-G videos that aren't overwhelmingly negative towards the game. Most people really just don't give it a chance.)

Un-Gravitify is probably one of my favorite songs from any sonic game

This was my first Riders Game and i still love it to this day. Even tho there is alot of automation it is still really fun to play, especially the missions after u beat the Game.The music is one of my favourite OST of any Sonic game and when u hit that zero gravity button and the music changes to a different part is incredibly satisfying. Great Video as always keep it up!🙏

@@kittenscratchanimeart It made everything worse. It uses watered down Riders gameplay and player interaction relies on cheap item boxes ala Mario Kart. What makes Riders, Riders is that you have to make up a comeback with your skills. Item boxes were just fuel and ring resources to help you achieve it.

How did I happen to just look up Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, and a video that practically just came out was waiting for me. WOW thanks everyone for the likes, I do not deserve all these likes but thanks.

This game is my favorite of the series but the red arrows in the logo literally make a roman numeral 2. I get the "unique sauce" you're talking about but that's exactly why ZG is a much better game for inviting friends over and passing them controllers for split screen. I don't need to give them a huge rundown of mechanics it's all intuitive. Although the Y2K vibe and soundtrack is the best part

@@yourehereforthatarentyou Have you ever heard of Rubin's vase? Why would you think it's impossible for something to look like 2 things at the same time? The chevrons are intentionally designed to be right next to "Sonic Riders" and be so slim that they look like a Roman numeral II. It's a clever double meaning

I didn't know about the trick system in this game had that mechanic and ive been playing this for about 10 years

I personally liked the ost of the final boss from Zero gravity more than Riders 1 as it gave me that rush of adrenaline and also made me feel like the stakes are high and the situation just got even more intense than before

The opening of the Hero Story, with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles in the car, is basically the music video for Radio Gaga. Change my mind.

One: I imagine hardly anyone knew of the trick system. Figuring out to run into objects during rush was way easier. Two: one mechanic you didn't mention was using gravity control effects objects lying around.

I wish you would've dived deeper into the music. The music is awesome in both! Sonic Riders 1 definitely has a soundtrack that hits harder, music that gives me a "it's all or nothing" feel, like Green Cave or Splash Canyon. I also love Zero Gravity songs but for slightly different reasons. Although they don't have that "all or nothing" feel, the music is still really well made and catchy, and has more meat to them. I specifically love Aquatic Time and of course, Gigan Rocks.

I'm gonna be the odd one out & say I honestly like the Zero gravity "Slo Mo" drift a bit more from a visual stand point, especially since it also slightly alters the race tracks music during the race. Zero Gravitys OST is one of my favorites.

Always had this conflicted feeling about this game, im glad someone's finally mentioning the positive aspects of it tho. Great video.

I adore the riders series. I always kinda argue with myself which was the better simply because riders 1 drift was probably the best drift into boost I have played in a racing. I did love the gimmicks of gravity and the music (especially the track you noted) is amazing. Good video. I always wished the Racing Transformed Team digital Sumo would make a riders racing. They could probably pull the whole concept off brilliantly. (I wish sonic and co kept the redesigns lol)

Two things: Having to press A again to grind was peak skill expression and you can't sway me, and yes, the OG Riders menu is SO good. The art style really brought that game to life, and I loved every minute of it. Also my favorite Gear was the High Booster. You know, the one that consumes just about your entire bar to give you an insane amount of speed? Yeah, that was my favorite, even if I was never really good at it lol

As someone who found this vid through the youtube algorithm, i would think a Freeriders vid would basically be a sub magnet to get more viewers

the strangest thing about ZG is the fact that there's a control setup where you control the game using the wiimote held vertically and the sensor bar with your movement being determined by position of your cursor on screen (basically if your cursor is pointing to the left, you turn left and vice versa)

I've been on a sort of binge of replaying the iconic sonic games from my childhood and trying to really reignite my love for the franchise before I delve into Frontiers (which I still havent played) and getting back into the comics and whatnot. I genuinely love this goofy ass franchise and I'm excited to reexperience Riders and Zero Gravity when I get to them despite me never being good at any racing games Riders was a fucking blast as a kid and I never forgot about it.

Drifting kinda does exist if you use the Wheel class of vehicles. That’s actually how I prefer to play cuz it does give a boost after.

If you have an Xbox 360 and a copy of Free Riders you can play it with controller with a mod

I played both Riders games, but always loved Zero Gravity so much more. The maps are fun, the variety of characters, plus allowing any character to use any type of gear instead of basing the Speed/Fly/Power type on the characters is just really fun to me. And the music slaps. But that's standard for Sonic games

Fucking love this game. It had fun mechanics, dope music, and a ton of replay ability. I wish sega would give us another Sonic Riders game. So much potential

at best, ZG is a simplified Riders but still fun, in some stages, you can use Gravity Dive to skip sections or even go to the top route, even outright going an entire race without the need of Speed, Flight, or Power if you know what your doing, tho, if they were to take the best of the original and ZG, I'm sure something amazing will come from it, that said, I also enjoy ZG

I wish you touched on how using gravity control to take sharp turns freezes the music and then starts it again in a different part of the song

ever since i got zero gravity over a decade ago, 100%'d everything i could etc i had no idea about the trick system AT ALL i don't think i've ever got an X rank

I'm astonished how popular Sonic Riders has become the past few years, I played the actual SHIT out of Sonic Riders and Sonic Riders Zero Gravity on my ps2 as a kid and loved it, one of the very first times ever in my life for sure not even exaggerating I stopped and enjoyed a song and felt something from it was Zero Gravities main menu theme. I totally love Riders 1 better it's just more fast paced of a style I enjoy in a racing game but I just genuinely loved both games growing up, I've been a Sonic fan all my life since before I can even remember (at least when I was 4 and I'm 21 now) so seeing the franchise FINALLY have people saying it's "good" again after all the goddamn complaining/making fun of in the 2010's now everyone switched up entirely saying it's good now just makes me wanna go "I TOLD YOU SO!" but whatever, Sonic Team getting the recognition for when they occasionally make the hardest most goated fucking crackling 🔥games just makes me so satisfied that these 2 games I loved and never heard anyone else besides me talk about all my life finally get some recognition. The music and unique idea/gameplays forever will follow me as being impactful in my life.

I do think the tracks in Zero Gravity are much more appealing like Crimson Crater, Aquatic Capital, Gigan Rocks. While OG riders had amazing tracks they never really felt too...idk...varied? I think if Srzg tracks were in Sonic Riders we'd have the ultimate Riders game def since I also think Zero Gravity's music is much much better there is a reason why Zero Gravity's menu music was the first result on KZread when you would typed in "main menu music" idk if that's the case anymore but it used to be like that for literal years But yeah Zero Gravity's track aesthetics just win out for me and the music adds so much to em the only ones from Riders OG thag compares imo is Digital Dimension, where u go through hell, heaven and some digital purgatory, and both the sega carnival maps which pretty much tie even for me with 80's and 90's boulevard since all 4 tracks are a sega fans #1 most wanted heaven for when they die And the Egg Factory stages in Rider OG does not even compare to the technically 4 Factory Stages in SRZG I adore the final 2 factory stages in SRZG to an unreasonable degree

They need to come back out with thissss! Sonic doesn’t need a damn car racing game since this is unique on its own 🙄

idk guy but i would rather to play zero gravity but here's why, that was the first riders i played and it's filled with so much nostalgia for me, and also the looks and aesthetic of the game for me it's just perfect, i played the first riders but in gameplay sometimes it doesn't feel ...right?, at least for me, it a 9/10 game don't get me wrong but zero gravity it's a 10/10, the story, the maps, the music, the everything (not the renders tho) it's majestic, i just love zero gravity so much edit: yeah i forgot to mention, super sonic in zero gravity it's the worst lose of time ever made, you can't even play with him and feel good, super sonic in riders was better

Always good to see Sonic Riders content still being produced. I think Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity feels the way it does (story aside) is mainly because it feels like a response to some of Sonic Riders' complaints. If you recall, the original Sonic Riders was mechanically deep and racing felt quite fast. But it wasn't very good at teaching players how to engage with it. (In fact, the tutorial is basically hidden in the one place people visit LEAST...the Extra's menu). Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity has the Tutorial accessible right away and even in the main Racing Menu, which is a completely huge improvement. But the rest of the gameplay definitely can seem toned down in comparison. Yes, steering is easier, and the trick system is much simpler to get the hang of as well. But a lot of mechanical depth is missing. Heck, once you get to point, it may actually feel somewhat "stiff" in comparison to the first (or perhaps that's me being too experienced in F-Zero leaking out). Anyway though, this is still a good game, but I feel like it was a downgrade from the first game because of how much slower this game felt. The track designs are also much better but if everything was made faster and drifting enabled (the Wheels are basically the closest we have to this), the tracks could possibly shine a lot more. I still want them to try Sonic Riders again, and maybe use everything they learned (but really lean far more to the first in terms of gameplay and mechanics. They were easily at their smoothest there--though the modern trick system would be cool if it stayed). Or even better if an indie team could make a successor of their own.

You can use Gravity Control when entering those Gravity Rings for instant Meteor Burst & GD. I also prefer Grinding and Tricks in this game because the ones in first were & are brutal, I'm not terrible & quite good but they're more than a hastle than to be fun especially Grinding, there's more error to make and it gets tiring.

There's even the ninja upgrade path on your extreme gear makes you invisible on the map what makes you automatically teleport when you see a running icon

Late, but something else to mention with burst between games is that it doubled as a melee attack in Riders. If you start a dash RIGHT next to an opponent youd smack them. In ZG its an item exclusively, and an extremely rare one at that, essentially functions like a mario kart star (but lets you take powerful shortcuts)

this was one of my first sonic games and one of my first racing titles honestly its not so bad especially for a 6 year old

It threw me off on how the Extreme Gears look in Zero Gravity when I first played it. It has a more blobby look compared to the more sharper look in Riders 1. I wasn’t a fan of the way they look in Zero Gravity, but the fact that you can transform and upgrade your gear with a certain amount of rings whenever you want mid race is super cool. So the blobby looking gears grew on me.

There was a trick system in zero gravity? That's news to me, since I'd just get X rank jumps for timing it right on the edge of the ramp. I cant blame the severe downgrading of complexity in zero gravity, because it had to be adapted to be playable on a wii remote due to the fact Nintendo was forcing their gimmicks on games in development in the wii/DS era. However, because the skeleton of the structure itself was still there in level design, modding it all back in was possible to do seamlessly, and it is godlike.

Hello, quick introduction because it's my first time here. I've been playing and beating every (and I mean every) Sonic game. I played Riders 1 and Zero Gravity for the first time last year. So I had no nostalgia going into it. So gotta say, I'm in the majority. I played Riders 1, and was hooked. It was such an addicting game once I learned how to play it. I think I agree with your statement that Zero Gravity is the polished game, but I believe in it's ability to be more polished, it became more shallow. I love Riders 1 for being a constant mental game of risk, reward, and inevitable failure. Things can be in depth in ZG, but I never had to make more split second decisions whether I should go for another trick (and which direction), nor did I think about using boost liberally or conservatively in my current area, as in ZG, you know exactly where you always want to use your GP. That and deciding what kind of drifts you want, as you don't always want full boost drifts. But that's just me complaining about a game being more approachable. I quite liked the constant increasing of your skill in Riders 1. I even got my friend who doesn't like Sonic to play Riders 1 with me, and he thought it was great. Oh and, when I first played Riders 1, I was so confused why rails decided to work differently from every other game and thought it was stupid. Yeah, I kinda turned around to having more control, and another thing to mess up (or land) in a close game with someone. Complaint over.

I used to play this game as a kid with my brother when we still have the Wii. It was the forth game we got. It was an enjoyable game, though we never played the first game nor Free riders. So I don't have a proper opinion on those games outside of reviews. I had fun with the gravity mechanic as I drove across the race track finding shortcuts to beat my competitors.

I still don't know how we got peak sonic racing twice, yet the kinect singlehandedly killed it. Rest in peace riders sonic 🙏 Your legacy lives on in speed simulator, riders X, Riders DX, Tournament Edition, the Kinect patch, and Re-gravitified. I encourage all of you to check them all out, hard work needs appreciation, especially from a dead franchise.

Zero Gravity was my first console Sonic game. I 100%ed it as a kid and fell in love with it (before I played Riders 1 and I realized how much I was missing). All that to say I had NO IDEA the trick system in this game had that mechanic behind it. Does the game explain it at all?

i have only played this game, but i played it sooo much as a kid honestly its a really good game and has quite literly the best options theme in existence, not the best menu theme (that one goes to one piece grand adventure). But man all the songs are soo great and the final boss is pretty cool too (just for having a final boss in a racer game alone is neat as in an actual fight sorta)

I'll do with Free Riders what I did with Zero Gravity in the Riders 1 video, and I'll be honest I do like Free Riders a lot more after the No Kinect Patch release I don't remember really well but I remember playing the original game once, and I thought it was bad, but after the No Kinect patch... I actually think the game is pretty fun I think the level design of the tracks aren't the best of the best, especially since they were made based around the kinect controls, so the turns are really open like some in ZG and the closed curves as far as I remember don't exist (at least not a lot) But, I still do think the tracks are fun, there are a lot of alternative paths, I love the gimmicks of the tracks like riding the Minecarts in Rocky Ridge, lifting your hands to grab into the subway in Metropolis Speedway, etc. I also like the Gear Part mechanic in Free Riders, I think it fits well with the ZG Gear Part, it's really similar to ZG but at the same time it adds a new twist and it's really original, since in Free Riders instead of chosing a gear that has abilities and each regular gear only having one type that you have to unlock by upgrading your gear like you do in Zero Gravity, you have your ability from the start like Riders 1, and you can choose to have 2 abilities, with any character, not only Speed, Flying and Power but also extra abilties like Air Saver, Start Speed Up, Max Speed Up, Trick Boost, Rapid Dash, etc. and having it not being limited for a certain groups of characters is both really fun and interesting because you can play as your favorite character and still not be locked to their type, and can be kinda lame if you liked the system of characters having abilities because it fits certain character, like in Sonic Heroes which is where Riders 1 takes inspiration in that aspect I assume That's it for Free Riders, I have a lot less to talk than I had to Zero Gravity, but when the game is not being held back by the Kinect Controls, it is a fun game to me and to some other people (at the time that the No Kinect Patch released a lot of people started to talk about how the level design is enjoyable after that and Free Riders became on par or their second favorite or even favorite Riders game), I do not think it's perfect, but for me it's just as fun as the other 2 games, Riders 1 will forever be my top 1, but I like the other 2 games now
