Some of the stuff in Sonic Prime is quite impressive for a 3D animated TV show,hope you and the rest of the Prime team get to work on something else Sonic related because I really do enjoy some of the ideas,characters,and action in the show despite some of its issues. (Oh,and also, so the fantastic voice cast gets to play these characters one more time.)

This really shows how much work they added for this 3D cartoon, like in sonic boom but not too much action just speed ; spin attacks; destroyed robots and stuff , just with boom shadow moments was impressed me , hope i will learn more of those because that's what i want to do

Just finished watching Season 3 and you guys did an amazing job on the show! mind, Are the worlds areas separated into different files per area or is each world one big map? Like is there separate maps for the island areas on No Place, Devil's Lighthouse and an Empty water map for scenes that don't have any landmarks? Also for new yoke was there ever more areas of the city made beyond what was shown? like Dr. Done-It and Dr. Dont's districts which I don't believe were ever shown?

Thank you, that's nice to hear! Lots of good work by a lot of people. Yes sets are built modularly. So in a big area we might have 5 sets make up the larger 1 set. That's to help keep scene file down and improve animation speed. We try and build only what we need. So those other parts of the city if we don't see them we didn't build them. If it's a story point then it gets built. Really glad you liked the series!

I have a question regarding layout. When you start layout, I’m guessing you already have a sound/dialogue sequence to work with. So, do you have the freedom to shift when certain sounds/dialogue happen if you find the timing isn’t quite working with the idea you have for the layout and how characters/objects should move?

Great question! Yes you do. The more experience you have the more you trust yourself to make those calls. In Layout your trying to make the visuals work with the story a big part of that is audio. So if you need to adjust when the audio happens you should be free to make those changes. Those changes then get passed to Edit so everyone is on the same page.

This is amazing! How can one learn to do Previs? What is your process for previz? Do you use camera rigs? Do you create one Maya file per shot after blocking out the entire sequence?

Thanks shika! Previs really is an arm of animation. I would start there. Understanding some animation principles is the best place to start. Then putting that into practice in 3D. From there Previs is about presenting your idea/action/animation. Yes we'll work with framing using the camera, it helps if you have a camera rig (but you can get away without using one.) Next put a bunch of shots together an you have your self a sequence. My processes: stage, frame, compose, repeat. I'll make a video about later this year about this topic. For the most part yes we work on one shot at a time. Some projects you can work on a sequence all at once. Hope that helps!

More comments to you but I like the details, sonic in new yoke , that blue thing was his trail, sonic wasn't moved just his root transformation I guess, and he was moved before his root transformation make turns every part on the new yoke map, I like the details , effects and when sonic was have charged glowing shoes man , his legs was moving so fast and I like it plus his trail was with electric , the light of nine invention was glowing that light when the prism was closer, I really want to learn those because ,to make a animation I need a map and to have a map need more realistic things, I really want to learnt those because I heard someone's can make some 3d things on real life plus I want to see something diferent because I watching a lot of times and I don't get bored , but the sounds of speed , explosions, metal hits, spin attack sound and more sounds , and shadow boom teleportation sound ; spin attack sound and speed sound and more, I'm done .

This kind of animation is done using a 3D software. For the show we used Maya. But if you want to start learning 3D I would go with Blender. It's free and powerful. There are many disciplines that come together to put a show like this together. From art, modeling, animation to lighting.
