Note: The mischievous rabbit you meet throughout the game is based on the original concept art for Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic was originally going to be a rabbit called Feel). Also, I highly recommend checking out the boss battle at the end. It’s pretty cool. :) I'm planning to get a Christmassy video up tomorrow in time for Christmas, but if I don't manage then hope you all have a wonderful Xmas!

As far as i remember "Feels the rabbit" was never his original name but a nickname the fans came up to and just stuck with it, the original name at that point of production they were still experimenting with concepts until they came up with "Mr. Needlemouse" afterwards That's what i remember, i could be wrong of course but on recent years on Sonic Superstars specifically they brought this design back under the name "Rabbit" as a skin for Sonic, being another reason why it's heavily believed "Feels" was not an actual production name

The art direction is insane. If sega had done this with some 3d bonus stages, Saturn would've had an awesome sonic game.

16:14 "Porgramming, Progject, Artistis." Very in the spirit of the "Sonic sez" PSA segments.

I like how it uses so many elements from the beta or even earlier in development, some things and enemies only really existed as concept art but got fully interpreted as sprites for this fan game.

The music, the sound effects, the level design,all of this is terrific.

WOW. The second you fired this up, my first thought was "It feels like an authentic Sonic game! I want to play this!"

I love the multiple animations he has when he stands on top of the totems.😅😅😅

oh sweet jesus riding into the sunset, although it's a Fan game this is absolutely beautiful from level and sound design to pixel and sprite animation and everything in between is gorgeous! i'm already in love! the game really brought back that first time feeling it's evidently clear the developers are VERY much passionate about this. Excellent fan game!

i don't know what's with those 2d sonic fangames lately that they all look impossibly good. I'm even half surprised this sonic sprite is mostly vanilla.

The environment designs in this are so well done! many other Sonic fan games sure love to have busy sprites + saturated colors, making them clash with the foreground and background

Man i remember those sonic controls. Sonic 2 was my favorite. He carried such a momentum that you could almost feel through the game any time you tried to platform instead of just running. Good times

This might be the best looking and best designed sonic fan game I've ever seen. Amazing work! Cool how it takes inspiration from Beta and Alpha screenshots too.

Its a great start! Would love to see some of the Sonic CD elements (time travel and super stages) added to go along with the Super Sonic mode (if that was the intent).

How fitting. A game set in Christmas Island released around Christmas. 😂 Oh, and I love this game. No surprise, though.

Am I the only one who hears the Lava Reef melody in Granite Zone Act 1?

I like to think this is some sort of sonic mania sequel after sonic forces, classic sonic gets sended to the wrong dimension, in this dimension every concept of sonic 1 lays safe, containing the original sonic concept and unused sonic 1 stuffs like zones and characters, in this world, sonic needs to find a way to return to his dimension safely, but it seems like eggman is still here with his evil plans.

people always say these games are like as if it came out on saturn but i feel like genesis could do these also.. because at first im inclined to say this has way better animation than what genesis could do, until i remember games like aladdin, lion king, and comix zone

This is Sonic Overture. Sonic Legends is a different game that seems to use different zones from different Sonic fangames, and Sunrise Gate zone from Sonic Overture is one of them

​@@sammyay-man2754 That's the case because both games share the same source of inspiration: the original Sonic Overture (a fan game in the making that sadly got cancelled around 10 years ago). The approach is different though: Sonic Legends is a game that is meant to be a fangame equivalent of Sonic Generations (so to speak) and Sunrise Gate Zone is one of the levels chosen for it. On the other hand Sonic Overture'95 is meant to be both a revival and revamp of the original Sonic Overture project and Sunrise Gate Zone was meant to be the first zone of the OG game (and thus the first zone for this remake).

The only sonic game i've ever played (sonic 1 8bit on sms) was much slower but also a lot harder to beat, platforms were tricky to reach and the chaos emerald were hidden in the level and you had to think outside the box to reach it. I wish someone recreated that type of gameplay instead of this "just hold down right" kind of thing

Hi! I'd recommend playing the game before making your mind up about the difficulty. This is my third playthrough, so it looks a little easier. I found it to be about as challenging as the original Sonic The Hedgehog (aside from the fact that the boss battles are a bit too easy at the moment).

I'm sad this game did away with the amazing Sonic Overture music. But everything else looks amazing.

@@DeterminedTorres They should've kept his music, tbh. You know, as a way to spite him, being all like, we're gonna use the stuff you created for Overture, with or without your consent and there's nothing you can do about it.

Sonic automatically snapping to the tops of totems really isn't a great feature. It feels really bad to have your movement suddenly halted when you're not expecting it, by objects that blend into the background. Not only that, it could even screw the player over if it makes you uncurl in the vicinity of a badnik. At the very least, Sonic should only snap to totems while the player holds Up on the D-pad, so that it only happens when the player wants.

Looks gorgeous but seems pretty slow and the snapping to the top of the totems looks like it would get annoying

Chris Chan will definitely summon the Dimensional Merge with this game.

Hi! There are certainly some similarities to Sonic CD, but graphically this is more than anything the Sega CD could handle. The devs say it's "inspired by 32-bit games from the Saturn era". Their aim was to see what a 2D pixel art Sonic game would look like on the Saturn.

The Saturn was king of 2D in the 32-bit era. The PS1 and N64 can't do the 2D graphics the Saturn is capable of.

@@TailsSR saturn realy was more capable to 2D, even so - ps1 devs find a way how to make 2D, and it was same good, sometimes even better than saturn, becoz saturn 2D was limited by confrontation between VDP1 and VDP2... + plus being a king mean not only capable to something, but also when devs and people choice... Xbox was strongest 6th gen konsole, but no doubt that ps2 was a king of 6th gen, right?that so great - make a 2D capable console, and use one of chips that cant do fine effects and opacity.... come on man, its like to say like if Dreamcast has more videomemory - it better than ps2

I don't understand why fans make fangames of what a 2D Sonic game would be like if it came out for Saturn. When in reality, if Sonic would have had a 2D game for Saturn, people would have criticized it at the time for being more of the same as the Genesis games, only with another coat of paint and for being stuck in the past. Seeing that Mario made the jump to 3D on the N64 with Super Mario 64, while Crash Bandicoot debuted on Playstation. So Sonic could have been in absolute oblivion and therefore could have been the death of the franchise for having stagnated in the past and not knowing how to innovate and Saturn would have become the last console of Sega.
