Something I like about Sonic CD is it came out before Sonic 2 and is an alternate sequel to Sonic 1 (it even kinda feels like Sonic 1), so it's a snapshot into an alternate timeline where instead of getting what we got, we got a bunch of different games. I like to imagine points in game series that could've been seen as a turning point but weren't. Like what if instead of Super Mario 64, they tried to make another 2D Mario with way better graphics and horsepower than anything that came before, and what if instead of going back to 2D after DK64, the series continued from the 3D, free-roaming direction. I don't know how much time you like to spend in the land of What Might've Been, but it's something I like to do.

I wanna say the drop dash being stiff is definitely due to the old rolljump physics from the original genesis games. Seems like they remembered to disable it for 3's engine but not for 1 and 2

I think the drop dash implementation for 1, 2 and CD is similar to the implementation in the SEGA AGES versions of 1 and 2 on Switch, while in Sonic 3 & Knuckles it works as normal since it was built off Sonic Mania.

Why do you dislike Scrap Brain? I actually like it. I don't dislike hard things. I think the difficulty fits the atmosphere because it's the final level, and it makes the villain feel more treacherous. Also, this being a gigantic city, this is what everything would look like if Eggman won, so I like to imagine an alternate future where Sonic loses, and instead of things continually moving onto different directions with each adventure, it continues from this. However, something I do dislike is how Scrap Brain Zone act 3 is really just Labyrinth Zone act 4. I mean, I like the level in a vacuum, but I really wish they'd gone with their original intention and given us more Scrap Brain; I'd like to see what they would've come up with to make it different. What does Scrap Brain even mean, anyway? I keep seeing people say they don't get it. Does anybody actually get it? I wish Scrap Brain came back in Sonic Mania. (Sigh)...It's never coming back.

old as shit comment but i always interpreted "scrap brain" with "scrap" referring to the junky, rotten, and dystopian setting that we're in and the "brain" as being the core of eggman's operation (being his lab obvs)

Game starts at 4:00 Sonic 1 - 7:23 Sonic 1 resume from pause - 48:22 Sonic CD - 1:27:31 Yes, the fmv performance issue was in Mania as well, way less pronounced though, it's just that the video would run a bit slower than the audio depending on your hardware, back when denuvo still infected Mania. Also it's interesting, you're far older than I thought you were, which isn't a bad thing at all. It's rad how diverse this fanbase is, everybody love a fast hedgehog!

Also if it's a windows computer Blaze, if you haven't already, get an SSD and move the operating system onto it. Windows 10 notoriously plays bad with mechanical drives. You'll fix a lot of stuttering in general that way.

Already done. It's very mysterious why it's started stuttering. I think the only way to fix it would to just build a new PC. Some day. Maybe. Hopefully.

Sonic 1 on GBA is my least favorite Sonic game. People hyped up 06 as being super glitchy, and it can be, but there’s a consistency to how bad GBA Sonic 1 is. You never get a break from terrible game design. It would make great torture for any gamer

You can’t make Sonic 1’s special stages better. Just an awful concept

The saving grace of Sonic 1's special stages is that the game's good ending changes almost nothing and Sonic 1 doesn't have Super Sonic, so you miss nothing by skipping special stages unless you're one of those weirdos who go for score [which definitely isn't me haha lol ha haha]

I don't know if you can make them good but you can make them more tolerable; Give Sonic a little more control, ease up on the bumpers and reverse blocks and have less goalpost gotchas. The difficulty curve on these stages is also wildly inconsistent. One and two are okay but then 3 and 5 are way more difficult than any of the others, then 6 is kind of a breeze again if you can stay in the middle. The half-pipe at least naturally evolves in difficulty whereas these rotary stages have no concept of it. You could probably make these more tolerable by just changing the order you play them in.
