    The Lian Li O11D mini is a nice case. In micro ATX 5 slot mode it has room at the top for a 360mm AIO. Only about £108 for the Snow version or about $130 USD ish. It has room for two 3.5" HDDs and 2 SSDs. Should be plenty considering now if you have the money to spare to buy HDDs in sizes up to 22TB.

    I like that open-ended x1 slot. I still say x1 is mostly useless, but at least when it’s open at the end you can stuff an HBA card or such in there. It’s not like a bunch of HDDs will saturate that lonely PCIe lane anyway.

    While systems with full 16x slots would be preferred, an open 1x slot still serves a nice purpose for some expansion on a consumer motherboard, for when you want to turn it into a NAS or similar.

    I like ASRock motherboards (I'm getting ready to put a build together with their H670M-ITX/ax). I'm not into overclocking, so I looked at that one and the B760 Steel Legend for a possible future build. I think for the much lower price point I'd be inclined to opt for the latter. (I've never really been a Sonic fan anyway. 😆)

    It is the exact same board as the one in the video. Just different board design. Slightly cheaper. ASrock boards are pretty good. I been using one in my current PC for the last 10 years or so. No problems with it so far though it is nothing fancy with a Celeron CPU(I was on a very tight budget at the time and that was all I could afford).

    Good that there's a cool looking, affordable LGA1700 board. Modern PCIe layouts really bother me though. My mATX board has 2 1x and a 16x (better than this board), but it sucks not being able to test x16 devices while I have a GPU installed. I'm this close to taking my dremel to the board to open up the 1x slots but I'd really rather not destroy it for a couple more years.

  • @daviniarobbins9298

    @daviniarobbins9298

    It is a limitation of the chipset sadly. There are only 10 gen 4 PCI-E lanes and 8 of those are being used for the 2 bottom m.2 slots so you are only left with 2 lanes, one of which is the x1 slot. Not sure if the wi-fi module is using the remaining PCI-e lane. After that there is only 4 gen 3 PCI-E lanes so if you plug in a nvme drive gen 3 you are limited to only one gen 3 drive.

    I bought this board yesterday for £175. I think with B760 chipset you can't overclock the CPU so unless someone is buying this board because they don't have the money for Z790 and plan to upgrade in the future I would go with a non K CPU and save about £30 to £50. Lets be honest how many people actually overclock their CPU? I have never done it, haven't needed to. Plus the non K CPUs only use 65w(base) to 153w(turbo) so with electric unit rates being so high at the moment it saves you money there too. So with B760 boards one is better off with a non K CPU especially as I don't plan to overclock nor upgrade to Z790 later. This board, I think will be good enough for what I use a PC for which is mostly internet browsing, KZread and streaming(Netflix for example) and light gaming(not much of a gamer, guess I am too old, lol). I plan to put in(eventually) an i7 13700 CPU. Probably overkill though.

    It would be rather neat if after more motherboards begin incorporating internal DP flex inside of their motherboards, someone creates a multiplexed / bifurcated NVMe M.2 adapter to _also_ permit internal DP with the capability to install a longer screw for holding it down, so it would be basically a stacked M.2 connection expressly for attaching a display. _An alternative approach_ would be to create a short-length adapter with DP connector on one side which still bifurcates, _but also forces use of a smaller M.2-attached media, created in a way to take advantage of a full-size M.2 slot with an M.2 press-fit socket so that the whole thing can fold down and not interfere with fitment of pre-affixed M.2 twist-lock fasteners, considering Framework is now selling 2TB M.2 modules. Might wanna throw this idea up on the L1 forums now I think about it…

    2:50 "So you have a PCI Express 5.0 M.2 for whenever those are generally available." This is incorrect information. From the motherboard manufacturer's official specification, all three M.2 slots on this motherboard are PCIe 4.0. 3:30: "Although you could rock upto a 128 GB on this board if you are okay with a lower DDR5 transfer rate." Again this does not match official specification that lists the maximum capacity as 192 GB. Some nice content and insights in this video and channel, but please double check the data posted as it can throw the viewers off.
