I hope they never get rid of console otome, because I don't think mobile games are for me. Love and Deepspace is my first gacha game, but I'm already falling out of my honeymoon phase with it. The pacing is harmed by the gacha nature of it. I know this is to push people to buy packs in the store, but with people like me it just backfires and I start to lose interest instead. Sometimes i just want to play the game, ya know? Not just spend days grinding. I would love a console game with Love and Deepspace's quality minus the gacha aspect, but I'll still always love the 2D games too.

So true! I also hope so too especially considering how much money gacha games make compared to console games .. Totally understand the pacing aspect! I also can see myself stopping to play it when I've run out of content and have to wait for the next release....I try to enjoy LD in a really slow pace not too play through everything in an instant 😆 I'm also fine with different kinds of games! But for such high graphics games it needs a big budget ...

i didnt even start love an deepspace because i also lost the last years alot of times the interest on mobile gacha games. I love to pick up a game and play it when I WANT and not a game that forces me to play everyday stamina system... so i prefer also switch or pc otome without any gacha system. And honestly if i wanna date a hot 3d char then i would pick Astarion in BG3 he atleast looks more realistic from the model design.

Gacha games do have storylines. Some of them have very compelling ones I have been playing otome games on and off for a decade now and I have never liked the whole "you need crystals for this interaction" or "you don't have enough points for this outfit" type of situations Gacha games don't usually do that. You have the main storyline and no matter what, you can progress through it without those situations. It's the extra content that is gated behind pulling for characters or cards. But you can choose to go for that content or save for the next one. I prefer this model for otome games

Personally, I will always prefer "complete" console games - which I can pick up like a good book. Fascinating stories with great characters and beautiful 2D art. There are so many talented artists out there with their unique styles. And when I play games by RiRi, Satoi, Kagerou Usuba, or even Sui Ishida, their art adds invaluable value to my gaming enjoyment. This is something I miss from games like Love and Deepspace - it feels cold and somewhat generic to me. But I definitely agree that the entire gaming industry has missed the market for games aimed primarily at a female audience for decades. And the broader the market becomes, with more competition and diversity, the better. Definitely great times for us otome lovers!

I looove gacha otomes, as much as I love some console ones. But most gachas are terrible. I can play Tears of Themis with almost no worries about things I can't get for free. But other games are terrible with their monetization. Like Love and Deepspace, it's such an awesome game (the interactions, the battle system), but it's so greedy that its revenue will stay at the current level. If they actually made an interesting story with more chapters released (they're currently planning on releasing 2 chapter every year, every chapter is less than 40min long), they could come close to half the revenue of Genshin, but as it is with terrible events and nothing for free at all, it'll probably fall into the fifth part of Genshin's revenue, or even lower. I enjoy gachas only because I can follow that story and universe for years and years and I don't need too much commitment since they only drop new story every month or so, and new events, new ways of interacting, AU stories etc. Lovebrush Chronicles is great at that as well, it's a shame the Global version is terribly managed and rushed as hell, wrecking my will to follow it.

My wish is for companies to breathe fresh air into the visual presentation of console titles. I was baffled when they released games for the switch and didn't implement lip movement and blinking. Come on, even the PSP had those! The idea of more dynamic live-2d seems lovely to me. I also was a huge fan of the cinematic scenes in Bustafellows and the moving backgrounds, it added so much to the atmosphere! I recently played "Witch on the Holy Night" which has hands down the most stunning visual presentation of any visual novel I have ever seen, it almost felt like "playing" an actual anime. The way they arranged the sprites, CGs, music and backgrounds to make every scene feel as natural as possible was, for lack of a better word, mind blowing and made me really think about the possibilities of the visual novel format.

More of those companies who make combat and 3d with such large assets will tend to backtrack on elaborate romantic elements to appeal to a more general audience and cast a wider net. Things like LDS is still an outlier in the grand scheme of things. Even harder for console bc china is still very mobile prevalent and exports still not taken seriously, and the main switch market in japan is being downsized and cost cut.

In my own opinion and how I like, i prefer a one time purchase game since game like Love and Deepspace made me disapointed to know that it is like Mr Love and others.. it alwasy feels uncompleted and need too much hard work ( i am a dentist and also work as a designer and artist so i wanna have fun and relax) since i love plot-based games balanced with good visuals and story telling. I alwasy end up feeling that that story is incomplete and i will never be able to know it fully cuz i missed an event or something. I really like the new challenging stories (i have been playing otome games since 2010 and stopped in 2014 then picked them up again last year) and have seen the drastic improvement in stories and story development and main characters etc so hopefully they make more games that have slight gameplay or even big gameplay like Persona games.

Before Deep Space and or Obey Me I use to play the "Shall we Date" mobile otome games. They were gatcha in which was mostly to dress up the avatar. Now I feel theyve become smarter!! By making the gatcha aspect for the male charcters rather then the avatars. They sell you the special mini seasonal stories and artwork. I tried Obey Me and I was so digusted by the gacha being changed... it was no longer mostly focused on the story but more so the male characters artwork and such. Safe to say I left the Otome community and glad I did. Seems like a chore now to have to play mini games just to progress the story instead of being a visual novel with decision making reflecting your route, picking it up whenever you want without having to be limited because of level gridning. It might be for others but just not for me. If I wanted to have a playing aspect Id just play a regular mmo or video game.

They should've done it earlier , but if they didn't see a profit in it back then they weren't going to bother with it, at least until recently. 3D has very high cost and because of how niche the market is no one wants to put their eggs in one basket. Meanwhile you have otome games from China being backed by some of the giants in the tech industry I don’t think you can compare that. You shouldn’t compare games like Persona with the otome market either because those kinds of general games have a lot more backing and budget. These big guys would rather have something that appeals to everyone than just romance games for women. Also, don’t use “otome” for Persona, the social links have both men and women and maybe you’ll call them romance elements, otome means strictly girl x boy.

Clearly you haven't played persona 3 portable, as what links you have with women are just friendships not romance so being that the romance it towards the male characters with events it is considered otome by reviewers. I feel like the last game that really balanced the otome gacha game was mlqc, but we all know the situation with the original English voice actors. It didn’t feel pay to win and it was getting a consistent amount of story updates. I just wish the company didn’t make that horrible decision. Also, I prefer phone games because I can take them anywhere so they’re easier to pick up.

Though I did enjoy Love and Deepspace, nothing can replace a good console otome game! Though lately the ones that are being released in English are on the darker side, which I'm less into. Currently playing Radiant Tale and this might be my last otome purchase for a long while. I've actually started to enjoy replaying otomes I already finished, which I have never done before, especially on my psvita!! Anyways, though I lost all hope for it being available in english, if I could play any otome it would definitely be one of the Starry Sky games.

I loved the characters, the consequential choices, and storytelling of Bustafellows. So if more things adopted that and made romance a plus, but also allowed more range of steaminess, that would make me happy.

@@gilliantoh4658 It gives the best experience and immersion imo and if you want to imagine your own voice you can just mute MC voice just like you can with the rest of the chacaters. Sometimes even if MC is bland, she could gain a lot by being voiced (eg Ceres, she's so uninteresting but at least we could hear her screams and it would add a lot to the atmosphere since it's a horror game). Not to mention oftentimes 50% of MC "dialogue" is her thoughts, not actual lines, guys talk way more. It might be pricier but well, some games did it with no problem and imo it should be a standard.

i've been into otome games ever since mystic messenger in 2016 and ngl, the flat "click and advance the text" vn otomes can get boring real fast for me. that's why i've been really enjoying love and deepspace! the story itself for that game is SUPER dry imo but the final fantasy-esque cgi and interactive elements make it a lot more fun. i'm hoping to get more into the visual novels though, as i played cupid parasite a few months back and actually really enjoyed it!

One of the biggest issues with Otome games for me is always feeling priced out of the market. Big name releases on the Switch etc are crazy expensive, and theres no way i can afford the type of smart phone that'll play Love and Deepspace. I know there are cheaper game options, but in my experience the quality can be very hit and miss. The Otome revolution feels like it's on it's way. I just feel frustrated that so many will have to miss out.

I really hate what happened with otome games overall. Feel like the moving stone for this was mystic messenger? While MM is definetely a "worthy" otome game, the in-game purchased still bothered me. Id rather pay the full game price. This way it becomes so expensive.. Its a shame. Still waiting for a normal otome game from cheritz but I doubt it since its less profitable that way. (and the ssum was yikes)

Mainly it’s because it’s from China, mobile gaming is a huge franchise for China and you can’t go anywhere without it, it’s the most preferred style of gaming for portability and personablilty amongst ladies, no one has much time to sit down and buy a whole other machine for the game.
