Something pulling me forward | Nadia Nadim | TEDxAmsterdamWomen
Born and raised in Afghanistan, Afghan-Danish striker for Manchester City Nadia Nadim knows as no other what it means to build a new life in a new country. Football became Nadia’s obsession and she dreamt about becoming a football star every night. “For the first time self-esteem I has something pulling me forward.” Years later, when an important exam was on the same day as an important football camp, Nadia was told that she couldn’t be a doctor and a football player. She had to choose between one of them. Born and raised in Afghanistan, Afghan Danish Nadia Nadim knows as none other what it means to build a new life in a new country. After the death of her father at the hands of the Taliban, her family decided to escape Afghanistan, as it was not a safe place for a family of six women. They found their way into Italy and Nadia eventually found herself between the hills and trees of Denmark, the country she now calls home.
Excelling in football Nadia quickly rose to the highest ranks of women’s football in the country joining the Danish National Team and has since then proudly represented her country 73 times. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I found her a few years ago and saw her play soccer…she is so talented with a great head on her shoulders. I hope one day when I have a daughter she can be like her. On behalf of all afghans…we are so proud of you Nadia!
Nothing can stop a person who refuses to be stopped. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼👊🏼👊🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

What a remarkable story and what an admirable young woman! How come we don’t hear much about people like her?

Because she’s busy bettering herself and society, not posing for Instagram and hiring publicists. It’s a sad world we live in when women like this aren’t on the covers of magazines.
Thank you Nadia as ac Milan fan. Thank you because you are such an inspiration for a lot of people. You are such amazing, talented and powerful. Thank you!
This is so scary. She mentions her mum and then a truck. And today, her mother is killed my a truck… Rip. 😢

Be proud of something you've accomplished. Not a random fact like nationality.

@@followyourideas Hard disagree. Nadia spent her childhood being displaced by war and unrest, and when she settled into Denmark she wasn't accepted at first for being different. She shows that being proud of who you are no matter what is a valuable thing

Some people are extra special like this young lady! Her outfit is great too 👍✊
You are one of my favourite footballers. Keep going
there is a lot missing from this story. She talks about what they didn’t have and that’s understandable. But isn’t it worth discussing the intelligence and emotional intelligence she was blessed with. Along with the love of a strong and resourceful mother. And the welcome and resources of the country that received them. And possibly many other boosts along the way ? Understanding the full picture could really help people. And maybe it would also be fairer to people.
This woman is a legend already in her young age

Afghan women are stunning.
Why it it titled (Amsyerdam since she is Afghan)misleading title - great video and proud of you girl - you rock

It makes sense, why the title is Amsterdam, she may gain the knowledge and the honour in Amsterdam, or wherever in the Europe. , NOT in Afghanistana 🙏🙏🙏🙏
🙏🙏🙏🙏💥💥💥
It does not matter to be proud of being Afghan, French, etc.... It is a matter of being proud of what you have done with the opportunity life gave you in Europe. Opportunities that politicians steal to citizens in their own countries or by invading other countries, by killing people, animals, and by killing dreams.
you should be next president of afghanistan

Who is here after Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan?

Me💔
She is definitely a fighter. And respect for that part. But I don’t have much respect for her moral. She has told the story about taliban who took her father from her. But she doesn’t have a problem supporting Qatar, despite their connections to taliban. So if you bring money on the table, than she forgets her own story and supports some very good friends to the one who took her father from her.
You talk so much like Sushant Singh Rajput.
