Something is SUSPICIOUS in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Join us for this deep dive into the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle and the controversial domination of Team Vance & Hines. We will investigate the drag racing story from the Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, Illinois where we see Angie Smith, Chase Van Sant, LE Tonglet and Gaige Herrera battle it out in the semis, discuss class parity between the v-twins and Suzukis, give some sweet Bret “The Hitman” Hart sunglasses to Matt “The Hitman” Smith for the excellent job he’s done improving and we take a close look at the potential influence racing legend Terry Vance has on the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class along with sponsors Suzuki, Mission Foods and Revilla. 2003 NHRA championship winning team owner “7.0” Joe Koenig takes us along for the ride. Enjoy this deep dive into NHRA Pro Stock Bike drag racing and leave your thoughts below. We will even see the Funny Car final between the legend John Force and Tony Stewart Racing’s Matt Hagan. #motorcycle #dragracing #motorcycles #dragbike #nhra #topfuel

Yup, that's a big problem in all of NHRA and why a lot of people won't run their cars in NHRA. Look at the Street Outlaws NPK and the money poured into any of the top level cars, getting to be the same problem. Those that spend the most will likely prevail.

Suzuki is like Chevrolet. As long as they are winning it is worth their while to shovel money into the series (as Chevrolet does in Pro Stock). Like Chevrolet, if the competition comes knocking, Suzuki will pull out, Vance and Hines will turn to Kawasaki or Honda or Moped (whoever shovels out enough money) just like Chevy pulls out when they are not dominant.

Yoshimura could break up the monopoly. In superbike racing you had Vance & Hines, Muzzy, Yoshimura, I remember the days of Scott Russell, Jaime James, Kenny Roberts, Kevin Schwantz, in drag racing I'm old enough to have seen Dave Schultz, John Meyers, Steve Johnson, my point is motor sports are more competitive when they have more manufactuers of performance parts playing the field.

I will come out and say it as a race fan and former drag racer. Marketing, now, will always take precedence over good, hard fought competition, at least in the top classes. The sanctioning bodies care more about being able to market a name, a show, a "hero" if you will. Look at any top tier class from the NHRA to F1 and Nascar, it isn't and hasn't been about ingenuity and competition in years. In this case, it's clearly Vance and Hines capitalizing on NHRA allowing them to either control parts, technology or something that gives them the edge. Clearly Gaige's bike is bad fast, but if another team want's or has to rent from them, why do they not get just as bad a rocket? No company should ever be allowed to monopolize the parts, and hence the competition. Shoot, if it's called "Pro Stock", make every body run factory spec cases, cylinders, heads and cranks. Then let any company make those parts and sell them to whoever they want to. As for parity, man I hate that word. On the issue of weight, it's so simple but nobody want's to address it, make it total weight WITH rider in full gear and full of fuel. It's a place to start. Anyway, I think you are right on with what you don't want to see, I believe it is.

The Pro categories are just that, professional class. The problem is NHRA has always played favorites for certain teams and manufacturers in Pro/Stock cars and bikes by allowing changes to the shapes of the cars and the bikes. They seem to forget about the stock part of it. These race machines are supposed to look like the stock versions that are seen at the dealerships minus the hood scoops and huge rear tires. So much whining goes on behind closed doors that you can’t always tell when sneaky changes have been allowed for one brand . I understand that some minor changes have to be made for safety reasons but NHRA had a hand in letting things get out of hand, it started with what engines are allowed then tweaks in the frontal shape, the the angle of the front windshield then how wide the car is can be changed or how much thinner the thickness of the nose of the car is. On bikes all the fairings that have been added that unless you’re a motorcycle brand savant, with the paint scenes that help hide the body shape they start to look all the same. Then the changes in engine size, valve placement or how many valves per cylinder. It’s either crushing oversight or turning a blind eye for some things. It’s no wonder that so many racers simply quit because of rules that allow one brand and one brand only to succeed. I don’t even bother to attend any races with any of the pro classes, I’ll be happy to watch the Lucas Oil door slammer cars race.

When someone like Brock comes out with claims like his ceramic wheel bearings add a few miles per hour to a Grom its obvious bs but there are plenty doing it in racing for the sponsorship money. If someone is getting 18 from 19 either they have figured something out that no one else has or they're cheating - be that with the blessing of the rule makers or not.

There is a point to what you are saying, and you may be right. But I dont really think so. I have gotten tired of seeing Gage win to as a fan, but as a race car driver myself I can see more than just from the fans prospective. Gage is no doubt one of the best on the tree to begin with, but Andrew H. is just an amazing tuner. I know times were different but when John Force and Austin Coil won 10 championships in a row it wasnt because they were cheating. Force was hands down the best driver and Coil was the best tuner. We dont see much of it anymore because everyone is just a genius now, but all through drag racing history a team finds something and for a season or 2 they just dominate. Then everyone else gets it and its back even. I am confident that Matt will win more championships because he is the G.O.A.T. of Prostock bike, but right now Hines just has it figured out. But all these tuners and everyone in any NHRA class are really just true geunisses and they will always figure out how to go faster.

No one complained about Garlits' domination, no one complained about Bob Glidden's domination,no one complained about Don Prudhomme's domination. Back then it was 'run what ya brung!'. It wasn't cheating, it was innovation. Now ya have to use NHRA-approved parts, which means ya gotta buy them from V&H/Suzuki. If V&H sees you as a threat like Matt Smith, they simply won't sell you parts. Out of stock, back-ordered.
