To be fair, it is. It is more dangerous to have a freestanding structure with a ladder to a second level and no railings. It's really not outrageous. Now, should someone have reported it? Probably not. He more than likely would have been fine. However, there are laws and regulations for a reason - a history that made them a necessity. History and other people's mistakes/tragedy have forced the rest of society to enforce common sense practices. If someone was seriously injured by something easily preventable, it would then fall on the rest of society to ensure: the person receives emergency services, medical care, possible lifelong support, have their basic needs met, have the legal system involved, etc. Honestly, Max has handled this a million times better than the majority of the audience. It's annoying, no one online should have reported him, and feels like a ridiculous thing to complain about, but he also understands that the code regulations aren't entirely outrageous.

While I agree with your principle, shaming people is just about the most toxic form of abuse a narcissist can use to try and manipulate the behavior of others. Healthy people do not use shame, period. That is the favorite manipulative tecnique of the disordered. Better yet, shame only works on other narcissists because most of us have inner self-worth and neither you or anyone else can affect that sense of self-worth because we know who we are and don't allow total strangers to try and tell us who we are or how we should behave. There are healthier ways to address people other than attempting to publicly shame and manipulate them.

@@le_th_ What are the healthy ways? First, the person could have contacted him in a mannerly way, as is done in an HOA or neighborhood vs going straight to someone of authority. If there was a disagreement or failure to listen or inquire; then you seek outside help in reference to "codes". Narcissisms has nothing to do with this (look up the true definition)! This was a sneaky underhanded way and you know it, so don't apology for it! This is how neighbors act that are dogmatic, nosey, jealous, and bossy. That's why I always follow my CC&R's and get permits in USA as I almost had to pay thousands of dollars until I presented my certified county permits. And, yes I shamed them (as I had and was required to be told who it was) so much they literally creep past my house now. The inspectors said if they really cared they could have contacted me first vs contacting them ... Not to mention having a history of doing this ($500 fine given to them... YEAH!)

You Sir are LEGENDARY. Your accomplishments, on your own, are truly remarkable. I am a people person, however I really enjoy doing things on my own. Why? KOZ I KAN! (because I can). I will attempt everything myself. I ask for help when it is essential. Being a left-above-knee amputee for the last 4 years means I ask more than usual, but not necessarily so. Your gate looks incredible. Had you left more grey, your design ethos would have worked. With such a small variance, it now looks like you ran out of gas, or motivation to complete the task. All black is the way I would go. But then again, it's not my gate. My two cents worth. About the Karen who complained to the council. You truly are a remarkable person taking it in the spirit in which you portrayed it on camera. I would have lost my shit, and a few thousand subscribers, in the process. Hats off to you. Absolutely love your adorable fur child. Occy is an amazing old boy. Can't catch up on your videos fast enough, and cannot wait to see what you tackle next. "Be Kind!" So true. My philosophy is "Be Nice, or Go Home". It works from both sides. Greetings from South Africa. Curt 🍻

It seems someone is envious of Max and what he has achieved with his land so far. The person may have tried being a content creator, or land owner without success (boo hoo for them). I like Max for his honest manner, love for Occy, and his respectful gratitude to his subscribers. He has a humble charm, and a beautiful smile no matter what he's experiencing. Jealousy and envy is the character of someone mean spirited and unable to concede that we're all different. The world would be a great place without people with this attitude. I hope they realise that a ladder is very dangerous and the fact that Max put so much effort into ensuring his deck was not only a structure of beauty but safe for his purposes. Talking to him about their concerns would have been far more appropriate. The internet troll - always ready to spread unhappiness, and drag others down into their gutter of spite. Fortunately Max is still flourishing no matter the attempt to derail his plans.

We had a 12.2 M x 2.5 M steel frame and board on board drive sliding gate installed, it was a monster. We had to have a pretty big "Y" dog at the end to direct the gate closed when it was windy as it was closing it would act like a sail. It was large enough it had to be custom built onsite to match the slope on the driveway. Keep up the good work sir! 🤠👍

To preserve those beautiful beefy hardwood posts slap some black Flexseal rubberized paint on the exposed tops of the posts. So I grew vegetables for my kids. I didn’t have a job. I had a neighbours tell council that I was polluting my creek and then the river with nutrients from growing food. Food that fed four young kids. The council came to check. It’s one reason I got out of qld eventually. I have ptsd from living there. It was constant warfare. I’m sad to see it’s still happening. I still have the house but I can’t go back because of the bad feelings. I loved my house.

You are being very polite indeed. Having a good relationship with your council is a great idea so that is another plus for you. My vote is for all black for the gate. The other thing I noticed but my experience with wood isn't much, should the top of the gate need some sort of sealant on it? The top part you cut back etc. I love the look of the gate and it is perfect for the setting anything smaller would have looked odd. Regarding the ladder for the raised part of the patio (near the RV) my brother built a wooden ladder like you have with hooks at the top and long enough to be easy to climb (like yours) and when he wanted to get on top of the structure he had, he would just hook the ladder over the top and it looked great and safe.He removed it after using as he didn't want the kids climbing. It has lasted 10 years so far. All the best and happy homesteading!!!! ❤

Hi Max. Great job man. Hey Im a chippie and have a couple of ideas that might help you out. 1, have you thought about using a Ceiling pulldown ladder for your upper deck. Im Sure with some thought you could adapt one to be used in your situation. 2, to make your New fantastic gates more secure...weld a big round washer to the top hinge pin so that the gates cant just be lifted up and off the hinges with a crowbar under the gate. A person with the knowhow could get those gates off the hinges in literally 5 minutes. To make them 100% secure those hinges are surposed to be installed...bottom one facing up and top one facing down. Thats a tuff job to do but they would be very secure...if you understand me. And dont worry about whoever wrang the council. Now you have a report with the council it will be so much easier to get help from them in the future 😊

Lovely gate, great work! Going forward I would suggest in your wet, rainy environment that you add a little more cement to create a slightly sloped 'skirting" around the base of each post so that rain water sheds away. I think as it is it will catch on top of the cement and seep down along posts into the base hole? Also, along the same lines, and it would be a nice touch too, to make, or buy a cap for the top of the posts also to shed the water so it doesn't soak into the grain from the top. Example: Nice solar self-charged lights are often the design of fence post top covers. Well done work!

A few years ago I had 2- 20ft boxes from box trucks. I turned them into a beautiful shop. Electrical, plumbing, epoxy floors, windows and doors. I poured my heart into that shop. It wasn't for a business. Just a personal hobby shop. I restored Tonka Toys. I'm disabled and it gave me something to do. After a year of having my shop up and running someone reported me to the county. Turns out I wasn't allowed to have shipping containers (these were not) on my property. I fought it for 3 months but in the end I had to give them up. Pissed me off that some thoughtless neighbor reported me without coming to talk with me first. I had to sell them cheap. Lost a bunch of money on them. I bought a house 2 years ago and it has a detached garage. Was hoping to make it into my shop but it has structural issues. Have to tear it down. I can't afford that so I prolly will never have a hobby shop again. Giving up my dream because some neighbor reported me.
