    YES! Totally agree. I'm a straight guy in my 30s....and I'm in no way immune to this negative body image thing. I have fairly straight hair....with a _bit_ of waviness in it. Not much. But a bit. But I've always wanted to have wavier hair. NOT curly....but wavy. Just not as straight as mine is. Just _more_ wavy. And this monologue made me realize I'm furrowing my brow at a _partly_ cloudy day...wishing it was a _mostly_ cloudy day. But definitely NOT sunny or rainy. Fuck that shit. And isn't that ridiculous when you think about it? I'll be dead soon. We all will be dead soon. That's....nuts. It's scary. And it's so easy to feel down on yourself because you aren't the ideal version of what you wish you were. I don't even want to change that much about myself...I like how I look. But I damn sure want to tweak a number of things. My hairline is fine...probably better than average for someone in their 30s. But I wish it was a bit lower/better. I wish I had _slightly_ more muscle mass. Just a BIT more. I wish my teeth were whiter. I drink way too much coffee....and red wine doesn't help. I wish my face was ever so slightly less narrow. By like 1 or 2 millimeters. No more. Already went over the _slightly_ wavier hair. I don't have any wrinkles on my face....yet. But there's SLIGHT lines I can see show up after I've been laughing or smiling for some time. I could go on...and on.... Anyone who thinks straight guys don't feel self-conscious and vain....are wrong. Or they're right and I'm seriously in the minority. But I doubt that very much. And honestly...this monologue was genuinely helpful. I feel better now. Not as anxious about all my flaws. I love the message Pete delivers here. That no matter what/who you are....someone IS in to that. I'm super into girls who are kinda androgynous....a bit weird, off, anachronistic. Girls who probably look down on themselves for not looking like the Cosmopolitan "it" girl. They might think lots of guys find them unattractive and too...whatever. But....I most definitely AM into that. Just love how these old monologues hold up. They won't ever become dated....because it's about genuine honest stuff we've always dealt with. Not about how Trump said such and such dumb thing yesterday. It's refreshing....

    Well, it is a lie. How fit you are is only part of your attractiveness, but it is a part. Others lying to you, or you lying to yourself about that will just make you hard to deal with. At least how fit you are is something you have control over (I'm not saying finding time and energy to exercise is easy). Other parts of attractiveness like intelligence, bone structure, personality... They're much harder to improve, if it is even possible.

    Joey Raven How so? If you like to see yourself with a certain hairstyle or color or whatever, then why's it nonsensical to do so with no regard for attracting mates?

  • @joeysraven

    @joeysraven

    10 жыл бұрын

    JamjoPebro I was suggesting that the way people like to see themselves is based on their view of how the world sees them--whether that manifests itself in deliberately rebelling against what they believe is the way the world wants them to appear, or wanting to look like whatever their idea of better is (like straight of curly hair) or whatever. To say that the way you make yourself look to the world is not at all based on the way you think you will be viewed by others seems a little delusional to me. I was not suggesting that the only reason to alter one's appearance is to snare a mate...
