TVR's are well-known for not being the most reliable of cars on the road. And BMW's S85 V10 engine is well-known for being one of the most fragile engines ever made. So what happens when you combine them both into a 500bhp, naturally aspirated V10 Frankenstein project car? Mike Fernie went for a spin in this epic build to see what was what.

    @@CommanderAce77 No disagreements here. What I thought was awesome is that he totally owned up to the fact that he thought the combination was unreliable. I dig that motor and I bet it will be a solid build, but I can also see how the english side could present some.... issues.

    Reading the comments about reliability I have to say that whilst working at dealer for TVR many years ago the most reliable ones were those that were used every day. Cars which were used occasionally or as weekend warriors were the ones we saw the most 🤷

    I fully understand where you're coming from. In my opinion all vehicles need to be worked and maintained properly to get the best out of them. This also helps with the life expectancy of vehicles.

    Wow , I’ve had this engine for nearly four years now ( M5 ) and it’s been wonderful considering all the comments regarding reliability , I’ve looked after it with preventative maintenance and had it serviced regularly on time this is the key to ownership of this magnificent engine along with warming the engine and gearbox to temperature and keeping below 3k revs in the process. 👍🇬🇧😎 Hats off to that guy. 👌 PS; it’s not a daily runner no matter what people say , weekend toy only.

    Yep, my dad had one as his daily about 5 years ago (bought on 20k miles). Stuck 40k miles on it, serviced as and when and had no problems at all in the 3 years he had it

    The engine would last longer if you ran it everyday. Like you said, oil changes and warming it up are the most important things for longevity.

    @@papa_pt …that’s true , my car is on 91,000 miles the analysis checks are showing little wear and tear which I know is only a guide but it helps , I’ve changed the throttle actuators for upgraded ones ( not plastic cogs ) including circuit boards which wasn’t expensive ( this is a must because they will go wrong) , I have no desire to sell this car it’s to much fun considering I had the M3 E46 previously that’s a bold statement because those cars are fantastic to drive what a car and I do miss driving that machine , I am going to change the rod bearings , vanos pipe and the engine mounts at the same time in the not to distant future for peace of mind , I would love to drive it everyday but it’s not practical regarding the warming up process if your running late for the train etc or in a rush plus the fuel is horrendous , I’m sticking to taking the cover of the beast every couple of weeks.

    I literally grew up on the street next to Bristol avenue in bispham / blackpool where the tvr factory was. Used to see some amazing cars like the speed 12 being driven around on test drives.

    My dad was actually the designer of this car. He also did the first sketches of the TVR Tuscan He’s currently making a fibreglass electric trike so yeah, hasn’t changed much.

    I was expecting a US manual made to work with RHD, but that's a small detail given everything else. This is quite something. It might not exactly be my type of thing, but still very glad it exists. Maybe I just have to see it at full chat and it will sink in. The standard soundtrack being missing might just be the hurdle I couldn't get over this time. :)

    Since the M5 V10 and M3 V8 engines were essentially the same, the gearboxes from the M3 (manual and DCT) bolt straight up to the V10.

    Now that's an amazing project car! He even managed to make the S85 V10 work with the DCT gearbox, instead of the horrendous SMG unit.

    W12 mid mounted Mk4 Gulf. I think it was 2009 or 2010 , the video of a W12 mk 5 Gulf was going around the early days of KZread and always said I'm going to build one some day, but Mk4

    I almost forgot how the S85 sounds. Hearing this, it took me back to the beautiful review that Jeremy Clarkson did on the E60 M5. I love that in the review he refers to the headlights looking like Edna Everage's spectacles, LOL..

    My car has a much more advanced gearbox- fore and aft movement of the selector combined with lateral movement allows the driver to manually engage the gear that they want. It really is a fantastic high-tech step in driver to car interaction. I have tried to find where the ECU is (it surely must have one) but have failed so far. It hasn't thrown up any fault codes yet, and it seems to work correctly every time. A real breakthrough.

    I am probably of an age or a bit older than this builder and had the same reverence for, specifically, the Sagaris. I always played it in Gran Turismo and Forza. A V10 meetup including the formula Supra would he next level

    Sitting my garage is one Tuscan S with a 556hp LS7 sitting in the front along with a Tremec 5 speed uprated driveshafts and diff and running Omex Management revs to 7200 and got 416ft at 1600 rpm !
