Someone Else’s Empire: British Illusions and American Hegemony - Tom Stevenson part 1/2

The post-World War II era was characterized by decolonization in Asia and Africa, with resistance movements leading to the unraveling of the British empire in colonies such as former British Kenya, where the Mau Mau launched a lengthy uprising between 1952-1960, as well as in former British India, with the dissolution of the British Raj and creation of an independent India and Pakistan in 1947. Journalist Tom Stevenson provides historical examples illustrating how the rise of American hegemony following the decline of Britain’s imperial power was bolstered by British foreign policy at every juncture.

As an Englishman I am disappointed your analysis fails to explain why the two most important elements of the British Establishment - Parliament and the Monarchy - exist in England. They exist in England not Britain because the English (people) lost the English Civil War and Britain is not a country. Your analysis does not acknowledge or reconcile the importance of England despite obviously - The United Kingdom of the British Isles, although currently disunited is still comprised of 4 countries Wales, England, Ireland and Scotland all of which were subjugated by force. The reason why there are no English, Irish, Scottish or Welsh kings is because of the outcome of the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. This is the outcome that allowed (in Britain) a man who is not Welsh and not English to go from being the Prince of Wales to being the King of Not Britain Not England Not Wales Not Scotland And Not Ireland. How is that even possible? So I think overall a poorly researched article or an article deliberately constructed to debase and ridicule the indigenous population of the British Isles 100% of whom are not British. Indigenous population defined as the total amount of people living in the British Isles with surnames that are Irish, English, Scottish or Welsh.

"De-Colonisation" just meant a transfer of power over a country from a European country to the American Empire

Round and round we go, without calling out the basic fact that the only role the UK could find for itself, is to being the US' poodle. That is the sum total of the special relationship- that of a dog and its master.

That's the power of soft censorship at work. You don't have to ban things, you just push them to the bottom. Then you can pretend you're not "totalitarian".

Very good interview. However, WAR is a dirty business and the people the British were fighting were very very dirty and in many cases Islamist fascists. That said BLiar & Bush had no reason to go into Iraq. Northern Ireland was a very very dirty war and the IRA Provisionals also terrorised much of the Nationalist and Unionist populace in the Province. I dare to think how the US army would have dealt with such a situation= I feel there would have been much more more collateral damage with their GUNG HO use of violence.

"Islamist fascism" is a product of french and anglo-american imperialism. Wahhabism was supported as a tool against the USSR and spawned Al Qaeda just as the illegal invasion of Iraq spawned ISIS. War crimes and death squads can hardly be justified by that argument.
