I actually play this family and have the dad come to love and accept that his son is a fairy, then go on to divorce his wife because she absolutely does not accept that her son is "abnormal". He spends his days as a happy single father and turns into the world's greatest granddad later on. And I always swap out his skeptic trait for something nicer as soon as possible with happiness points.

Hey, I did this too! As soon as I took control of the household, I had him divorce that mean witch with a capital B Miriam and dumped her into a trashy little trailer in town 😄

this makes me wonder if fairies were supposed to gain their wings when becoming a child or teen with all the remarks of parents not knowing till they grow up

Here's a thought: the reason Pip is on decent terms with the Hoppcrafts is because since Flora knows she's going to die soon, she wants her son to take the role of keeping an eye on them. Also, the reason she hasn't just "fixed" the mess she made is because she hopes that having a fairy child will open the Hoppcrafts' eyes. (Maybe it'll work with James, but Miriam...)

I AGREEE the sims are also known to be sneaky and add references to shows, films, books etc into the sims. Like we have that one family in into the future that is literally fry leela and bender from futurama. And the two from portal I think. So I would not be surprised if they also did it with Harry Potter . They should’ve also added another child + that should be the “teen boy” or something to resemble dudley

This family reminds me of the Dursley's from Harry Potter, though they lack a second child it's quite obvious that James was envious of magic users as a child, much like Petunia was of her sister. While Miriam is close in personality to Vernon, with her dislike of magic and her want to change things into her way of thinking.

TBH Young James actually looks like Harry Potter but then again that's probably more The Sims Lore doing than from the game itself.

I love how in your save James passed the bar at 12 and went "actually i want to play sports" and went to the sports academy

I think James is capable of redemption but his wife...not so much. I kind of like the idea of James learning to love his child and magic again(he clearly did as a kid) and leaving his wife to raise Alfred as a single father, eventually finding love again...maybe with a fairy? 🤔

super duper late but i want to add that lovecraft also moved to brooklyn, which is and always has been super culturally diverse, afaik there were particularly large black and jewish populations at the time, despite the fact that he was massively racist and antisemetic. (he also moved there with his jewish wife. they later seperated and he moved back to rhode island. you can imagine why lol) also he did fear science but he was really interested in it at the same time. so there are a lot of parallels there, totally think he couldve been an inspiration for the sims team when making the hoppcrafts

Thats interesting especially given the sims timeline places 3 as the oldest, followed by 1, then last 2. So it almost seems like they eventually got shunned away

I feel like Alfred still being their own child they might start questioning their hatred towards fairies/supernatural because of love. I think at least James is able to do that. Not sure about Miriam since she has the evil trait and all. But I definitely leave him with them and as I like a little drama, I too, want to see how the things will unfold. Obviously I'll try to give Alfred as good life as possible and he can move out as a teen if it becomes unbearable.

For what it's worth, in both my Moonlight Falls games, Alfred seems to be fine, and both of them became supernaturals of their own volition, so they seem to be warming up to supernaturals Note: I wasn't playing as them in either, but my household's babysitters, so I see them when they're dropping off/picking up Alfred

@@Amy_the_Lizard I imagine that their skepticism comes from supposed differences of lifestyle (example the family discription specifically mentions a behavioural trait of werewolvs) but as they are taking care of a "Supernatural" they likely could warm up to supernaturals

I was playing Rodgers family last night. Sophie's mom married james and they took Alfred. I changed james supernatural sceptic trait because you know he is a good guy from now on, okay? He was just hurt by his mom but he healed. They raised Alfred and Sophie together. I also made Sophie and Fawn high-school sweethearts and made them marry after graduation. They adopted 2 babies now they are all happy together lol.

I'd like to think that James Hoppcraft is only friends with supernaturals because he wants to make a potion to make all the supernaturals "normal" and persuade them into drinking it. And Flora might know what's James' plan is and have Pip spy on the family and play tricks on them to stop their plans of destroying all the supernaturals

I LOVE THE HOPPCRAFTS! I usually make Alfred a childhood friend who's a vampire and when they grow up, they fall in forbidden love before running away together. 😭

My theory is that James was born as a witch who loved supernatural things and he was sent to a school where he drank a potion to reverse his traits and delete his powers to focus more in his studies and later his job. However he is slightly remembering his old nature. It may be an allusion how education often damages children's imagination to memorize and calculate to be a good employee.

Alfred literally was running FOR🗣HIS🗣LIFE (in rupaul's voice) LOL I feel for Alfred

Whlie going through the rooms I was like "that seems familiar" when it came to the attic I realized I moved my Sims into this house and renovated it. Apparently the Hoppcrafts had moved out on their own. And yes I canged the bathtubs

Honestly sending Alfred to another family seems like the best answer. Especially to Linda Rogers for jokes, heh. But if one would like to make Alfred stay with the Hoppcrafts and be happy, James seems to be the key here since he has a repressed want to become a Spell Caster. You'd need to do a trait change to make it work though and his wife still gotta go with that evil trait. (I'm not a fan of changing premade traits but I'd make an exception for this)

Flora keeps insisting that she's doing all these pranks, but I don't think anyone has ever explained that *not* *fixing* a mistake (and thus putting a child in a dangerous situation) or that giving two orphan toddlers loving homes (I'm assuming that both were orphans, unless there's strong evidence that Sophie resembles Pip or his wife later on) are NOT pranks. Crimes, yes, especially the one with the Hoppcrafts. But honestly, not even one person partially transformed into a donkey? Tsk.

7:12 "Make it make sense" It made me think of people that say "I have gay friends, but I still don't agree with it." In fact, their bios make me think the developers are making fun of exactly that.

i know i'm super late, but i just wanted to add something: the name alfred means "the adversary of elves/fairies" which is an interesting detail!

Well, I always made a family consist of two supernatural parents, (usually a vampire and a witch) , and their relationship with the Hoppcraft are always good..

Perhaps Pip is using a glamor so the Hoppcrafts don't know he's a fairy? In which case, I imagine maybe (although they... have wings??) toddlers aren't obviously fairies, like how a lot of occults don't fully show traits until they're older. It reminds me of a movie plot where Flora is sure this will teach them the error of their hateful ways and somehow it works by the end of the movie in spite of the fact that it is so incredibly unrealistic

I like to have my supernatural Sims turn the skeptic sims into supernatural just to see how they cope 😂

In my game, Linda Rogers adopts Alfred after his parents have another baby. Since he is a fairy baby, Linda feels she has the experience necessary to raise him. After all, her own daughter is a fairy.

i remember this was the first family i killed with the fire blast spell and then i moved my sims into their house, good times.

I don't like the added bit that it was an "accident." Giving a couple of supernatural haters a supernatural child sounds EXACTLY in line with what fairies would do in myth. I also think it could be an allusion to conservative families with gay children. (I'd be interested to know what James' in-game gender preference is set at, too, considering his upbringing.) On another note, your videos are making me want to give the Sims 3 another chance! I usually stick to 2 for gameplay and 4 for design and decor.

The Hoppcrafts remind me of the Newlins, from True Blood, who are also very anti-supernatural, particularly with vampires. Their default house is way too big, for the Hoppcrafts, unless they plan to have more kids. I do wish more detail had been put into the history of the home, by the developers. I Personally.actually like to have James eventually undertake a change of heart and belief, Once he might have Developed a Hate for Supernaturals. but I like to imagine him one day asking himself something a little bit like, "Why do I do this? is it Right? am I Really right to treat Supernaturals as freaks, aren't they people too?", and he might think more on it. eventually he might undergo a Metamorphasis. changing who he is. and ridding him of the Supernatural Skeptic trait (and perhaps Coward. but that is because personally I don't like the Cowardly Trait's Mechanics lol), so over Time in My Game, he becomes more, Friendly and Civil to Supernaturals. even changing his responses to seeing one, Where he may have Booed a Witch or Werewolf walking past him, or even picked a fight due to his hate of them (Or say, Accused them), he would instead either have No Reaction, or the Typical "Hello" Reaction walking past

Maybe Flora is hoping the Hoppcrafts will soften up towards supernaturals now that their own child is one? It would suit them, having moved to Moonlight Falls. It's pretty arrogant of them to move there and think they can root out supernaturalism which is the core of this town - it was founded by a supernatural. Also, elderly people tend to be more calm and patient and let things solve themselves. Often, this is actually a wise thing. The desire to act here and now is very much a characteristic of impatient youth which is ironic, as young people have a lot more time to wait things out than elders do.

The Hoppcrafts became the biggest surname in my 10 generation supernatural lets play lmaoo everyone is a hoppcraft in my moonlight falls and an fairy. 🧚🏻‍♀️

I just started playing this family. I have no concrete plans yet, but I like the idea of eventually evolving it into a runaway teen story of some sorts.

Whenever I play with household the story usually goes like this; James and Miriam are abusive towards Alfred, and as he grows up he becomes a bitter, resentful young man. Eventually, an evil witch decides to take advantage of his fragile mental state and makes him her apprentice, training him to perform all kinds of wicked spells. Using some of the spells he was taught, he kills his parents and decides to put everyone in Moonlight falls under his control, including his master. Eventually, the daughter of the witch returns from her trip to France and is horrified by what has happened in her absence. She decides to take care of Alfred first by talking some sense into him, though it takes a few months (during which they fall in love). Then she and Alfred team up to stop her mother, which means killing her. After a long battle, they manage to finish her off and release her spirit to the Netherworld, making sure that she wouldn't be able to harm anyone as a ghost either. Alfred and the young fairy get married and start a family together, and that's where the story ends.

Maybe James is a friend of Pip so he can eventually convince him to give up on his fairy magic? That's something they can do once they have a strong relationship if I remember correctly.

From a storytelling viewpoint, i think taking Alfred away is a mistake, since the story of him growing up in the Hoppcrafts household is more interesting than taking the easy way out and, well, take him out of there.

For what it's worth, the Hoppcrafts have been surprisingly chill in both my Moonlight Falls games, and became supernaturals themselves in both as well. In my first game, Miriam became a vampire, while in the second she became a mermaid, and James became a werewolf in both. (Note: in both games I dumped a bunch of D&D cahracter based sims around town.) In the first game, one of my teens was talking with a sim based on my barbarian character, and it the background I noticed the Hoppcraft being...weird. They'd chat for a bit, then James would say something that made Miriam mad, and she'd start hitting him with a newspaper. Then she'd apologize, give him some flowers, and they'd start talking again until James made her mad and started the cycle all over again. I watched them after my teen went home (because curfew,) and they did that for 2 sims hours. -_-' In the second game, they befriended my household (almost all of which were witches) because they were babysitters with Alfred being one of the kids they looked after. They'd seen these people cast spells and occasionally complained about it, but still got along with the witch babysitters fine. Then I switched to another household I'd placed in town which consisted of my ranger and her deceased (ghost) parents. Her mom was a doctor, and thus ran knew James since they worked in the same building, and he kept hitting on her CONSTANTLY. And I'm like, dude. This woman's see-through, and obviously not human! Then I switched to another household (I kinda stuck a lot in there...) which consisted of fairy politicians, and they'd apparently also befriended Miriam since they knew her at work. Then when I switched back to the witch babysitters, I discovered the parents had gotten divorced because the mother had an affair with Miriam, but had broke up with her since then (but stayed friends with her) and had started dating Ayden Van Ghoul instead. So. They seem to be able to tolerate the supernaturals of the neighborhood, but their relationship with each other doesn't seem to be going so well, at least in my games...

Imagine shaping the fairy xhild with regular child and undo Goodfellow's so called prank

I couldn't help but imagine giving him to Sophie's mom(so Sophie can have a sibling like her) but the new family makes sense & they could help the mom(I watched the vid involving her a minute or so ago but forgot her name) learn to raise her fairy daughter.

this theory sort of hinges on the supernatural state of fairy being a stand-in for being lgbtq+, i know its a slur that is sometimes used but also everything about this family gives big bigot vibes (the whole traditional values thing). maybe James was friends with Pip when they were younger, and possibly even more than friends. his mother finding him attempting a magic spell is a stand in for his mother finding out about his affection for Pip. her reaction to this scars James and makes him believe that this is wrong, so he becomes a supernatural sceptic (aka, homophobe). sorry if this is too much of a reach, but I do feel that a lot of the language the bio and backstory uses points towards this. it could also be less about sexuality and more focused around toxic masculinity and such, also. anyhow, poor alfred. i hope he's ok

That's how I read it too, hearing about James' history is what really made it feel like an allegory for being LGBTQ+ for me

Boy, this is interesting. My sims family does in fact have a fairy, although honestly, I knew nothing about the Hoppcraft's storyline until now. Sadly I doubt I'll rescue little Alfred, at least not with my personal household, as I only want them to have one child in their first generation. Having too many kiddos is very overwhelming! Doubt he'll be involved in my sim's stories later on either, as I try to avoid intermingling with townies too much.

James is basically internalized bigotry: He was forced to supress who he is (that being or wanting to be a wizard) until he just accepted it and turns his self-hatred outwards, thus becoming this avid supernatural hater. I dunno. He could warm up to Alfred once he recognizes this struggle, but Miriam? I don't think she could change her mind, she is way too determined and has no reason to empathize with that. Somebody gotta save Alfred from James' fate! DX I have been re-watching a lot of your videos lately. It's impressive how it went from mostly reciting the (hidden) game information to much more in-depth analysis and even comedy. Looking forward to the next lore videos! They always inspire me to turn on Sims 2 and keep working on my own lore neighborhood. :D

Whenever I play in Moonlight falls with my supernatural ocs, they will end up in a fight with either of the two. Always. Without fail.

I might sort of have a theory. I just think it’s odd that the dad pretended to be a witch. Not that it’s odd he pretended but more of when it’s mentioned I think there could be more. I think before the dad went away he was given a potion to get rid of his magic and overtime thought it was pretend. Like parents would probably have access to an alchemy shop and if his parents did have a similar view on magic wouldn’t be out of the possibility that the moment it hits them that their kid isn’t pretending or it wasn’t a trick on the eye. It’s actually magic to find a cure and send him away because of how angry they were that their kid was that thing. I also think it could hint at a possible future for the newly made fairy. That his dad may find a cure for his kid playing pretend fairy. Could be wrong but just a thought the bio has put in my head for awhile. Like cant get the suspicion out of my head lol

Also, in my game, with free will on, James and Miriam actually fight quite a lot, and given that in the family pic James is the one holding the child, i'm headcanonig that James is trying to get over his bigotry towards supernaturals and be a good dad and you can't stop me ✨

In like my very first sim's game one of my sims was engaged to Alfred after having been high school sweethearts. I hadn't moved him in yet because house was too full and I didn't know about mods yet. The Hoppercrafts moved to another town taking Alfred with them and internally lore-wise I fear the worst for that version of Alfred. Also, Ms Lore pls hand over the Pixie and Puff save files I wish to join the give this boy a better life crusade.

Wonder what families could Sims Lore come up with.

My guess is James and Pip used to be friends as kids. James was more imaginative and was curious in magic, thanks to his fairy friend. But his strict and abusive mother punished him for that and traumatised him enough to make him hate magic and supernaturals. It feels like a plot of some family afternoon movie, about a man who loved magic, but now has to grow into accepting it again because of his son. My side theory is also that "magic" in their case is a metaphor for homosexuality. James trying out "magic" as a kid, was hinting at him exploring himself, but his mother was against it and sent him away, to set him "straight" in a law school. Now he leads a boring and painfully "straight" life, being a "supernatural-phobe" along with his wife. But just wait till his son grows older and James realizes he's "a supernatural"...

I've been playing the sims 3 for over 12 years but I've never played with any family that has a description I think your way is more fun to understand the families stories

So toddler's wings shouldn't show up. Maybe Hopecrafts are reason why in The Sims Making Magic Supernatural Sims hide themselfs away normal sims society.

I have to admit this family always interested me, even though I never played with them. I always watched them from afar, like Flora was supposed to do and in the first sign of something being wrong there, I was ready to take Alfred away. However, most of the time, Alfred himself will leave the family the moment he's teen (I suppose NRaas Story Progression, or the way I have it set, allowed that, but still, Alfred is usually the only teen in my games living alone). But in one particular case, after I saw poor Alfred (as a child, at that time), being yelled by his mother and ignored by his father, I decided enough is enough and used cheats to "adopt" him into my family, which, back then, was mixed fairy and werevolf family. And he became successfull bot builder in this story LOL He married Zack Durwood, whom I made witch, and they had five children, either through adoption or geneticaly engineered, neither of which was human Sim. Oh the irony of life. BTW, I hope Durwoods are next, because that's another family in Moonlight Falls that interests me a lot ;-)

Here is what I do when playing with them, and I leave him there but then a fairy finds out and the family is forced to move away and give their child up for adoption and then a fairy loving human can come and adopt him or a actual fairy will
