She just helped him as a friend.

Having been an 18-year-old guy... I knew every thought that went through that character's head. The writer, actor and actress all did a fantastic job in this scene. Watt's line "I was going to work on it with you"... At that moment he picked up she was flirting with him but was too dumb to know it on any level but that stupid hormonal one. He's got no clue what he's in for, knowing only that he's liking it and doesn't want to stop, he becomes putty in her hands. When it's over it's clear to him he enjoyed the kiss, but he doesn't know if he enjoyed the kiss or who he was kissing. He becomes the dumb confused teenager who doesn't know how to parse it out. It isn't clear to him it's about her because he enjoyed making her blush, that he liked making her feel something, that he liked that she was feeling it for him. The sweet enjoyment of irony belongs to the audience. They know and want to see him figure it out. God, I miss when writers and actors knew how to show an audience the subtext of a scene instead of rushing the two into a bedroom for the skin-showing hanky panky that ruins the arc of emotional self-discovery.

Except the kiss wasn't "from him" to her.....; he was being kissed...! It was all her. She did all the kissing and all he did was grabbing and holding on for dear life...! This stuff only happens in movies. Guys never "get kissed". Girls never do the kissing or take the initiative. Some girls are so passive, you might as well kiss the back of your own hand.

I love this movie because it's got so much of what teens go through especially his dad that wants to dictate what he should go to college. I love when Keith asks his father, "when does my life belong to me?" Great remark by a teen that knows what he wants and tired putting up with excuses he gives his dad. This is a teen that had his "ACT TOGETHER!"

I love this scene!!!! Why don't we have movies like these again? What an era.

World class performance here by watts, she expresses her head movements as she says all the arrangements have been made then lures him into letting her plant an exceptional kiss on him then blowing hot and cold pushes him off tels him hes cool but genuinely blushes as she turns round with a perfect answer to his comment your blushing! Then as she opens that car door and offers a hand to help him exit the car she lifts her leg up behind her with great style as she explains shes wearing the bra!! And as she tells him to go get your SCAG she tops it by wiping dust from the rear wing of the car in such a way that the return stroke of her hand expresses her total disgust to the viewers all these actions make this the greatest kissing scene in ANY movie ever a true world class performance in every way, and she looks incredible too!

I love this as it reminds me of a guy who I was friends with in my mid twenties. They look very similar I now know him in his mid fifties and he still drives me crazy,I still cry over him and I still can't get him.

There couldent have been 2 better people for this movie i loved it back when it came out and still do ,one of the best kiss scenes and friendships ever caught on film .this movie is an icon for anyone who grew up in the 80s best times ever.

I remember watching this when I was a teenage, a few years after it was released. Being a drummer since I was 9..... I LOVED Watts.
