I worked at a vet and am so glad videos like this are available to the public. Too many people just "don't know" because the information isn't available to them daily at work. Knowledge is power.

Thanks for the videos, they're so easy to follow as a non-veterinary literate person :) My dog had a 1-2mm long metal shaving that effectively stapled into her pad. It was so small the vet couldn't find it until pointed out. She presented by putting no weight on that hind leg on hard surfaces, but put a little when on grass. She was all better within a couple of hours and a few salt water soaks.

It's always so sad when people walk dogs on hot tar asphalt. I see it all the time at swapmeets. Plus dogs are so low to hot asphalt ground with all the fur, too hot. TY for making this video.

Great video. Our dog always preferred the grass strip next to the street over the tarmac. Never really had issues with its paws.

We get a lot of snow and many dogs in our city use booties in the winter because the salt on the roads is caustic and hurts their feet too.

this is a great video. thank you so much Dr. Greg. I'm going to check my dogs right paw like you showed. He can't put much weight on it and is limping. He keeps licking the bottom of the paw to. I live in Arizona and he's always walking on hard surfaces or rock. our backyard is rock. I checked the paw and couldn't see anything.wrong but didn't know to check it like you showed. if I don't see anything visually wrong with the paw after checking like you showed, I will need to take him to the doctor because I'm assuming he could have sprained something or it could be internal. I'm thinking it's not internal because he keeps licking the bottom of the paw. wish I could bring my dog to you. thank you again!!

+Greg Martinez DVM My dog for the last couple of days has been extremely fine and now all of the sudden his stool has a mucus and blood type of texture too it and i was wondering what it might be. He wont move and he hydrated as of now he just keeps laying in one spot and just shakes and im not sure if its parvo or something else we dont let them anywhere outside or anything like that. everything is cleaned constantly and id really like to know what it is sense my last house i ended up losing three of my dogs because of a bag of infected dog food which caused them to pass away, so if you can id atleast like to hear a response back. Hoping to hear one soon if its something serious.

You need to discuss with your vet. He can't advise online really without seeing the animal!

my dog has been lethargic, runny nose, sneezing and has red eye's . random labored breathing, won't eat his dog food, but will eat the boiled chicken and brown rice I made for him. He's drinking water, stools are solid but have the color of Chorizo. He's a 7 year old weiner dog, his teeth aren't very good. I took him to the vet today, and he gave my dog a shot of vitamins, and vitamin drops....yet no diagnosis. ($259 later)!!! These symptoms have been ongoing for 4 day's now. He did however say he thinks he's anemic based on the color of his gums. they were nice and pink last night. I am at a loss right now , and so worried. I know there is something else wrong with him. 4 day's ago he was his normal spunky self, full of energy and life. is there any SAFE over the counter pain medication I can give him in case there's a tooth pain issue?

Is this the same for cats?

I need your help, I'm hoping maybe we can keep in contact. Regarding my dog, my vet is absolutely no help and is trying to make us buy a cappy brand of dog food because they think he has IBS... they are telling me not to use raw meat, so I am willing to do crock pot. my dog is grain free, and I want to know everything he's eating... he is a Shepherd collie weighing 60 pounds... I am wondering what ratio and how much food he will need twice a day?

+Samanta A It's called Dexdomitor, useful for instances of sedation like this. You can then reverse the sedation by giving an equal amount of Antisedan.

Katherine Richardson yes they do have cream for the pads but you want thier pads to get a little caloused because then thier pads aren't so sensitive to everything

I use PAWZ for my dog in the winter. Ice and salt hurts her so much she cries. They look like balloons and are biodegradable.
