    Simply amazing and great presentation of those JRPG chords! Every time the first chord is played I kept hearing Kingdom Hearts 1 piano theme about to play in my head!

    I think the second chord progression at 1:07 works well because the two chords (Ab and F) have a chromatic mediant relationship to one another, not because you are moving along the circle of fiths or whatever that graphic is supposed to suggest.

    I see, I agree it can be explain by chromatic mediant, but what I think about it is that, in this case (or in general) the chromatic mediant relation ship works well is because the new introduced note (A) belongs to a scale close to the original scale on the circle of fifth. Also, I believe thinking in scales can make it easier to come up melodies which works really well for me personally . BUT! I don’t have a music degree so I’m not claiming I know better.

    these progressions also sound very similar to the steven universe ost. great vid
