Some Improvements & Some Big Problems (Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 review)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Detailed review of the Toyota Hilux GR Sport, including power increase, price, specs, ride quality, payload issues and more.
Late in its life, the Toyota Hilux has been supplemented with a 2024 GR Sport variant that bumps the 2.8-litre engine power to 165kW and adds a host of aesthetic and mechanical changes to beef up the off-road capability and cosmetic appeal.
But is it enough? And what is the payload concern you must know about if you tow heavy loads?
Rivals to the Hilux GR Sport include the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Raptor, Volkswagen Amarok PanAmericana, Nissan Navara Warrior, GWM Cannon XSR and others.

Im due for a new ute and ordered my gr sport last week. This ute has most of the extras I would put on a standard hilux already on it. So it just makes sense for me. I like the simplicity on the interior ++ like the rock sliders / steps being small and narrow. Time will tell I guess. Btw I am selling my Isuzu Dteq after 9 years of great service.

Whoever tows in a ute at its limit needs their head checked, just because manufactures put a 3.5ton rating on there doesn't mean the car actually will be able to properly tow that much without struggling like crazy around the smallest of hills and bends

Not only that, people don't understand what GVM and the max 3.5T towing rate means. You can't just go and buy a 3.5t caravan load up the family and tray and go camping. With a 3.5t caravan, you are only allowed a 80KG driver... and that's it. Police need to start cracking down on this. It is so dangerous that people don't even realise.

@@Niko7739I've had a 2012 VW Amarok since 2012 and other then a door lock being replaced it has 220k on the clock and is going same as the day I bought it. It drives much better than Sr5 I used to have. Now the new Amarok is a Ford (with a whole lot of Ford type problems) I am looking at Hilux again when time comes to replace it. Hiluxes are good utes, but Toyota hasn't really done as much as it could to advance ute technology or driveability. I drove a new lux the other day only to find it well behind my 10 year old VW. Even the new 70 series track issue has not been fixed when easily could have been (which is more than lazy).

Missed opportunity, because what is it trying to be … They say it’s supposed to be a more practical Ranger Raptor, but its total payload is reduced to well under 800 kgs Vs well over 1,000kgs in others - I suspect that’s why it doesn’t get a tub cover because it would make its payload look much worse - so that’s sux if someone needs to set one up for touring. Most journalists say it needs weight in the tub to make it ride better, but it has a small payload, so something is not right there. It also gets the prehistoric 4x4 system that gets wind-up on most off-road situations, so you cannot risk it for safety situations towing a trailer on wet roads. Shame, missed opportunity by Toyota … if they increased its GVM and installed Prado 4x4 or super select system, people could overlook its age. Engine power and torque is acceptable if it’s proven to be reliable. I-Force Max Tacoma/Hilux cannot come soon enough for Toyota Australia!

Toyota has been resting on its "reliability" laurels, while not investing much in R&D. They've also been found guilty of falsifing safety records for their smaller cars and still charging a fortune for cars that are using decades old designs. Japanese people have lost faith in the company, but Aussies still buy their stuff, at inflated prices, so they continue to milk the consumer market. Other brands are offering better vehicles which are just as reliable. The argument that there are parts available for them everywhere is kind of silly, the reason there's parts everywhere is because the tech hasn't changed in years, and if they're so reliable, why do you need to have lots of parts available everywhere... Not many people keep vehicles more than seven or eight years, and in most cases they swap cars after five years, so why get a car that lasts forever, if you're going to get rid of it after a few years anyway. The idea that it's an investment for resale means that you have to suffer through years of inferior driving experiences, just to save a few bucks when you trade it in. If you're smart, you'll get a good vehicle that you enjoy driving and then upgrade to another car in a few years and enjoy the driving experience.

In realty it should be a 2500kg tow limit if you wanted you could always go for a GVM up grade but since the ride is so stiff now by the review I would hate to experience one with a GVM upgrade. @@Sabumnim666 Ιm an engineer actually, so yea, not an expert, but i know i few stuff. Why would naming the model of my audi would make my points any more valid lol. Its a 2016 audi q5 tdi torsen quattro wtih a seven speed dsg, happy now? never been once to the shop other thatn regular maintance, which is pretty cheap too, thanks to vw skoda seat partenrship. Now just because your ford is trouble free, which is great, that doesnt mean its a trouble free model in general. Similar to my audi, genrally speaking, post 2014 dsgs second and gen tdi engines are pretty bulletproof, but thats doesnt mean everyone is gonna have trouble free miles. But since im looking to buy a truck, i do my research, I ve avoided fords in the past, and probably i d still do. Becuase everytime i do my research about the bi turbo, the ten speed auto and the 3.0 ecoboost, i read the same things from many users who have had them for years. They are bad trucks. Most people sell them and get an l200 or a hilux. I dont have to own one to know that. My experience even if a had one with a ranger product, would be insignificant compared to the many other but reviews on the forums. I hope you get what im saying. It would be my good experience against many bad, from actuals owners on forums and well kown tuners like dark side developments, who dont like those engines and gearboxes. And thats the beauty about owners forums, if you have just basic mechanical knowledge, you can read peoples experiences and figure your own and make an informative choise, or avoid a bad one. Now i ve never any toyota ever, but i know many people who had any they had zero problems. I ve had a l200 and that thing doesnt want to brake no matter who hard i ve tried. I have no doupt that the ranger is a more refined, more comfortable, more fun vehicle to drive, and if i had a lots of money and didnt care about actually using a truck for work, the raptor would be the one i d get hands down. Is a toy for grown ups. But if you need a vehicle to be dependant, hilux and l200 are better trucks.

Meh, boring a and typical for Toyota to keep rehashing old boring models with average tech and guttless powertrain. Take an SR5 or just go Raptor

Not going to happen, as they are sticking with the 2.8 with the new Prado and 70 series. If anything is going to happen, its going be a duel hybrid electric system.

Toyota never win if compete in rally racing champions with Mitsubishi car or four wheel drive, Mitsubishi is the superior , number One champion, Ford also very good technology stability handling, Nissan navara third good and comfortable, Toyota Hilux is number fourth choice

80k + for a blinged up work ute , with a 10 year old engine and six speed transmission ?? and if you seriously want to tow a van or large boat get something with genuine cubic inch, maxed out four cylinder turbo diesel is not going to last, does not matter which brand you purchase .. the 4wd industry in Australia is based on 100% bullshit and social media channels that throw the Australian consumer under the bus for a few more views ..

Zombie Toyota buyers. Could have a massive dump on the bonnet and they would think its a good feature.
