Is it a story about Rods life, or just a bloke singing his songs

To me he is sounding only raspy, but without Rods emotional and soulful voice. And the backing tracks sound very sterile - no punch at all. The drummer sound like a broken drum machine, so sterile as it can be. WHY would anybody sober person hiring this low level copies of Rod!???
