Maybe a teacher could explain this properly but think of his equation (which seems to forget one of the T_1s) as the sum of both T_1s in the denominator and mg in the numerator. Try it. If you solve before he made that equation, when the T1s were being added after multiplying the trig with the angles, you would get two T_values that add together. That sum will have to be divided to both sides. That cancels on the left leaving T_1 equal to mg/the sum. Sorry if that doesn’t make sense. I’m cramming for an exam
