Should diaphragms always be assigned to floors? If I am using response spectrum analysis as an example, I am able to run the case without diaphragm assignments, so at what occurence do I need them?

sir,i followed the same procedure but still the same warning is coming.is it because of the same slab i have used for both staiecase landing and the floor?

sir can you share when do we have to use diaphragm option? what is its purpose?? do we have to use this option in any type of RCC frame structures design...Need your help as i am new to Etabs.

I also found out that you could right-click the landings and change the Diaphragm entry to None. This also achieves the same result but its a little tedious.

Joint diaphragm is connection between joints, Shell diaphragm is connection between shell corners.

@@Decodebd for Ground floor where there is no shell, can we assign joint diaphragm and for the rest of the floor i.e 1st, 2nd and subsequent floor where there is shell can we assign shell diaphragm. Since to my understanding, diaphragm action is to resist and transfer lateral force. Correct me if I am wrong. Plz elaborate.

Diaphragm we should apply separate for each storey or just 1 by selecting all storey ...pls ... urgent

Selecting Separate for each storey. One diaphragm is for one horizontal level.

Purpose of diaphragm is to find out CG of area & lateral loads will be applied on that CG.

Diaphragms are used in other programs also. 2 approach of applying lateral loads. One is to apply loading in peripheral nodes of beam column joints (like loads on cladding). Another is to apply lateral loads on CG of every floor.
