Solo winter tarp camping in deep snow - Had to abort!

Today I'm back on the crown land for what I had hoped would be an easy going and relaxing night in the wilderness. Things took a turn though and I knew that this time around, it wasn't meant to be. All that aside, I got to spend an evening in the wild and had a great time doing so! #rockymountains #camping #backpacking

Always fun and relaxing to watch your videos, your calm demeanor and simple editing make them highly watchable for me! The beautiful outdoor scenery is of course also a plus. I hope you keep sharing videos when you have the time for it!

Thankyou so much! That means a ton considering what you've described is the exact type of video I am going for. Something relaxing and calm, with nice nature. I'll definitely keep making them, I hope you enjoy future ones too! :)

Hi! 👋 Could you not find a bigger log to stir your soup with?😂😂😂 I laughed so hard!! Dude, I thoroughly enjoyed this! I love when people are real! Your personality is so calm and so peaceful... Even when you burned yourself you reacted barely faster than a sloth haha 😂. When you made the decision to go home I felt relief inside for you, I know how it feels to go through a lot of trouble to do a camp out in a video and everything go wrong.. but I know that good inner feeling when you finally make the decision to call it off.. you did right! Great video man, for real! I watched you on my other channel but decided to leave my comment from here instead

Thanks so much! That comment means so much, one of the big goals in making these videos was to be a simple, peaceful escape for people. Not much talking or over editing, just raw stuff ya know. So to have someone recognize that means a ton. I'll keep it up! I just filmed another one tonight which I'll be putting out in a week and a half or so. I'm gonna try to do a variety of stuff, day hikes, backpacking, overlanding etc. All with the same vibes though! If this goes anywhere and I get more subscribers I'll always remember this comment :)

Well, Buddy, I had to laugh, too. But not at you. Rather, it was the absurdity of your situation. I could tell by your body language how disappointed and tired you were trying to plow through the thigh-high snow right at the beginning. And it all went downhill from there. Even though your plans kept getting whittled down during the video, you earned high, high marks for sticking it out long enough to make soup while it continually snowed on you. With that presenting its challenges (spilled oil, burned hand, persistant smoke), you persevered, and if it was me, I would have high-tailed it out of there long before you did. I'm sure you'll assess what you'll need to do differently down the road. Just remember....sometimes the Camping Gods are with ya, and sometimes they're against ya. Kudos for a job well done.

You need 2 prussik knots on your ridgeline where your tarp attaches. This will keep the tarp spread on the ridgeline and not sag. Then use deadman anchors (tie paracord around sticks and bury them in the snow, them stomp on top of them to pack the snow down) instead of stakes. You can also make tieout points on tarps by putting a rock or clump of dirt into the tarp to make a ball, then tie a bit of paracord around the gathered bit of tarp. You got this! Keep it up bud!

Thanks a ton for the tips! My knot tying skills are definitely lacking so I'll look into those strategies for sure 🙂

Not sure what that means, it sounds like you're saying I didn't have the proper gear. Yes, that would be correct, as said in the video. I did not expect there to be so much snow, hence the reason for going home. Thanks for the comment!
